VERY SOBERING EXPERIENCE WITH THIS COMPANY
I decided to post this review only after exhausting all avenues to complain about this company short of legal action.
Prior to contacting Lothian Gates, I had problems with my electric gates for some considerable time and experienced trouble getting the manufacturer to provide a local engineer to repair them. I was initially quite impressed with the company's engineer when he turned up and said he would repair them. He said he would investigate the availability of the manufacturer's board and later said he couldn't get one.The price was given verbally (never confirmed in writing, which is very disappointing and worrying).
We agreed a date to fix them. On the appointed day he didn't appear. When I phoned he'd forgotten and was on his way to a job in Inverness. I tried several times over six months leaving texts and messages on his mobile and with the office receptionist to no avail. I had to call using different phone numbers, as I suspected I was on ignore if the number was recognised. On two occasions I asked if they really were interested in the job, to be told they were.
Eventually, an engineer appeared. First time he brought the wrong circuit board. However, he did come back a few weeks later, cut the internal wiring to the control board trying to fit a non-compliant board and then left complaining that he couldn't understand why the boss had ordered a board that was not manufactured by the company that made the gates. It turned out that they were still supplying these parts. Interestingly on the LG website gallery section they show the difference in the wiring work they do compared with their competitors. After my experience I find that very ironic!
Needless to say when I next phoned the head man, he promised to get back to me and promptly ignored subsequent attempts to contact him. I had already experienced three wasted days waiting in the house when the company failed to fulfil its promise. I was left worse off than when we started and wasted another day when a different company had to take away an internal part to reinstate the wiring.
During this process I attempted to establish if there they had a complaints procedure - no reply. They ignored Trading Standards too. I don't think they are members of a trade association. So effectively short of legal action you will have no other course of action other than the legal route or posting a review on Consumer websites.
