Beef Empanadas (Pasteles de Carne)
Monica B.

Tasty food, slow service but opportunity to improve! Good to see they're busy. I ordered a pickup order on Uber Eats, one order of beef empanadas and one of chicken - each order was for 3 pieces. The pickup estimate time was 15-25 minutes on the app. I waited about 30 minutes and even though it didn't say my order was ready, I then went inside to ask about it. Before that, I tried calling but no one picked up. Once I showed my order in person they finished preparing it right there and then. The menu looks good and people seem to come here, so I look forward to coming back and trying their other food! Empanadas came with the stuff that pupusas usually come with, which was great and we slathered that on our empanadas. Muy sabrosa, vamos a regresar!

Papusas

This place was pretty good. It was kind of a hole in the wall but the staff was friendly. They had no customers though and the food took a long time. I did like all the papusa options and the food was fresh. Someone not far from us had a whole fish on their plate, seemed good and im a vegetarian! The parking is horrible but that is not why there is one star less. It was just soul less.

El día de ayer pedí unas pupusas frijol y queso y uba parte de la pupusa sólo era tortilla.

Just when I thought I'd had every pupusa, I got to try the zucchini pupusa and am finally at peace! Attentive + quick service.

We ordered a variety of dishes but I really liked the pupusas . The vibe is eclectic and modern. The location is great, we found street parking right away on a saturday evening, there's a video game museum across the street if you're looking for something to do after dinner .

Chase Sapphire Reserve card brought us here, and I have no regrets. Those with this cc know that…read morethe places we can use the credit are going to be expensive and this place was no exception. However, at least the food here was GOOD - possibly GREAT! Definitely don't come here with a raging appetite though unless you're ready to spend more than your $150 allowance. FOOD: Pupusa de lengua - made fresh to order, absolutely delicious and would 1,000% get again. In fact, if we only got pupusas, we wouldn't have spend well under out allowance and left bursting. Pollo "Campero" - good flavor, well fried, but for $17 you only get three wings so not the best value. It was very delicious though... Empanada - don't remember what was in it. Don't remember if we liked it. Guess that tells me all I need to know...*shrugs* Bistic Encebollado - this is where we put pretty much our entire allowance towards. $63 for a well cooked piece of steak and with good sauce and accompaniments. I don't have regrets ordering it to try since we had credits to use, but if I paid for this fully out of pocket it would have been a miss.

This is my reward meal for long study sessions lol. Service is okay, you really just order and sit down. It's usually kinda empty except for a few ppl grabbing lunch, which i see as a plus since it's so close to campus. I came for a quiet, delicious meal after a hard day and got exactly that. Recommended this place to two of my profs and some study buddies Lol

I believe this space was a Burmese restaurant called Tharaphu a few years back. They made a decent…read moretea leaf salad but without the tableside show. I doubt that made much difference to their clientele, but in its place is another family-run business, this time Salvadoran. This one offers more generic plates at student-friendly prices for undiscriminating palates. That's at least my take in the couple of occasions I've tried it after going to the gym. The first time I tried it I couldn't see the menu until I got up to the order counter. Then I made the server wait since the menu was so comprehensive (Photo 5). I went basic and ordered the $16.99 Chicken Platter because the kabob version was five dollars more. It was decent enough though on the bland side with rice, fresh tomato salsa, and a small side salad of iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumber, and radish (Photo 9). The menu mentioned a house white sauce. I didn't see it, but I also didn't miss it either. I came back to try them again. I tried ordering the $14.99 Scrambled Eggs with Beef Chorizo but was told they were out of chorizo. This was looking to be a recurring theme because I was rebuffed the first time when I unsuccessfully ordered the beef gyro. Ironically this time they had the $16.99 Beef Gyro Platter. The rice and salad were identical to my previous platter, the beef was just OK (Photo 10). FOOD - 3 stars...middling meats, edible but not overly appetizing AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough and nicely decorated SERVICE - 3 stars...minimal communication on the food and when it will be ready TOTAL - 3 stars...fitting for a student appetite, good enough for the rest of us if expectations are kept in check RELATED - Exploring Berkeley?
