Chicken A1. Pupusa de Queso

I've been craving pupusas so we decided to check where could deliver from doordash! Pupusas salvadorenas was the first place that popped up so we decided to give it shot. I'm so glad that we did! The pupusas are pretty worth it! It's a good size for the price! It arrived wrapped individually which I appreciate so that the steam doesn't get them all soggy and stuck together, and I was able to reheat one by one if needed. We ordered chicken & cheese pupusas, and plain cheese pupusas. My favorite was the chicken, and I always order extra curtido (the cabbage stuff on top) because I love it, there's was a little different than I've had before-- it had a tangy taste, but still good! I'd definitely recommend to fulfill your cravings!

I was having a craving for pupusas, so I decided to give this place a try. Pleasantly surprised! I ordered 2 revueltas and 1 carne asada pupusa. They were delicious, freshly made and very filling. Great service!

Its always tough to find weekday menudo, isn't it? It's the type of comfort food where my palate doesn't recognize it's not the weekend. After a brisk walk through Leona Canyon, I took note that this Fruitvale spot on the Grubhub app served menudo and there was no asterisk stating "Weekends only". I was in - even though the traffic around the High Street commercial area gets thick and convoluted. It turned out to be one of those shopping strip mall set-ups where a stream of regulars pick up their takeout orders. I had ordered in advance on the app, so they were just packaging it up as I arrived. The $14 Menudo had a higher price point than most, but it was really flavorful with plenty of tripe and cartilage though I was kinda missing the hominy (photo: https://bit.ly/3EuJQXT). I figured I should get one of their namesake specialties, so I went for the $4 Crazy Pupusa since I thought it would be, well, crazy. Not really. It was a nicely made one for sure with their masa providing a fluffier texture. The topping was a mix of chicken, cheese, spinach and jalapeño (photo: https://bit.ly/3CqiakZ). Not so crazy but good. Weekday menudo is a dream fulfilled here. Pupusas stuffed w/ beans and cheese, topped with peppers, veggies and salsa

This was my first time eating Pupusas! I had watched YouTube videos talking about how they're made and the proper way to eat them. Now where's the nearest restaurant? GrubHub/Seamless were offering $5 promos to try this place, so over a 2 day period I ordered: - Pupusa de Frijol y Queso (beans and cheese) - Pupusas Revueltas (cheese, pork and beans) - Crazy Pupusa (chicken, cheese, spinach and jalapeno) - and 2 tacos, pork and chorizo These stuffed tortillas are great. They're fresh, homemade, and are packed in foil and sent in foam takeout boxes. They were still hot when they arrived! The warm creamy fillings are delicious, along with the curtido (slaw) and salsa. Also, the tacos were really good. The Chorizo Taco was really tasty. I will ordering from this place again!

Some of the next pupusas I've had, randomly decided to go here and honestly enjoyed them very much! Their service is great and the pupusas were out fresh! I will highly recommend to others !

Same pupusas with the fixings

Some of the best pupusas I've had. To be honest, we tried this place because Platano unfortunately had to close due to COVID. We've now ordered from this place three times (Platano is now open again, so we will definitely be ordering from both). We could tell the pupusas were homemade and fresh. They came wrapped in tin foil, so they stayed hot throughout the delivery. We ordered the pickled cabbage, sour cream, and salsa to have the fixings. The horchata here is also fantastic. Tip: For three people, we got two orders of sour cream, salsa, and the pickled cabbage. This was plenty, and allowed for a lot extra. I would recommend one order of each per two people, unless you typically use a lot. Two pupusas each for us was also plenty of food with the toppings.

To-go order was still warm and toasty 10 minutes after

Rember to check-in and get the special Yelp offer of a free drink with your order. I got the Guanabana (soursop) agua fresca/natural, and it was sweet and refreshing but a bit watered down. For lunch, we ordered 3 pupusas to share between 2 people: the pork and cheese, beef and cheese, and the "crazy" pupusa (chicken, cheese, spinach, jalapeno). Overall, the tortilla heft and texture reminds me of a thick gordita, yet the stuffed insides were steamed with melty cheese (smells like and made me think of tamales), while there was a light crunch on the outside from being hot off the flat kitchen griddle. Pupusas are made fresh to order, so expect about a 15 minute wait while they roll the dough and wrap your chosen stuffing, then cook it on the griddle. Ordered ours to-go and they were still warm and toasty about 10 minutes later when we arrived at our picnic spot. Pupusas come with a pickled/vinegary slaw of cabbage, carrots, onions, and jalapenos called "curtido". There was also a hot sauce, but it seemed more like a broth to me because the consistency was so watered down and there wasn't any kick or spice in flavor to it at all. Wish I had actual red or green salsa with this. Tastewise, the best was the pork and cheese. The beef and crazy chicken pupusas were rather bland by themselves. Meat didn't taste marinated nor seasoned like the pork. Also, not much spinach was detected in the crazy pupusa. Yet on the plus side all pupusas had a good and fair ratio of meat stuffed inside. Inside the restaurant is a flat screen TV with about 8 to 10 tables. There was various art, maps, and a Salvadorean flag hanging inside.

Service is always good I love their menu on their Pupusas different items always fresh love the chips and salsa with beans service is good there's Pupusas I've had an Oakland so far

Bad customer service! I walk in & the big chick at the register doesn't even greet me. She continues on your conversation with the cook, who isn't cooking or cleaning just on her phone. The free drink you get when you check in isn't even worth it. The horchata was not made well, tasted like water with cinnamon only. These pupusas were not authentic Salvadoran pupusas!! They had barely any meat inside! The mass looked raw still (not cooked all the way) I got so sick just eating half of a chicken & cheese pupusas. Lets not start on their salsa & the cabbage for the pupusas. The salsa tasted like a can of tomato sauce! & the cabbage that I love so much was literally just cut up cabbage and looked & tasted like they mixed it with a can of jalepenos.. I should've turned around as soon as I opened the door to this place. Waste of my money.

9/10 Very good. Go to spot in the East Bay. Parking is trash depending on the time of day.

Extremely dry and hard "carnitas" from the Carnitas Burrito

22 Feb 2025. 3.7 stars. 12:56 pm…read more Hello! Make sure you check their hours. Some days they are only open from 11am to 3pm. On our first 20 mile drive to visit, they blocked us at the inside of the unlocked front door at 3:12pm. Street parking can be difficult but a short drive\walk distance about a block away is a $3 an hour parking garage. The place looks clean and not too busy. We sit and our waitress Yanira M was perfect. Very nice, patient and attentive. We three shared two carne asada dinners with rice and refried red beans, two coffees, a coke and three pupusas. $101.36 before tip. The menu was confusing to us. First, the use of the menu words "red refried beans" confused us as refried beans have never been red in our lifetimes and these were pretty standard brown pinto bean looking and tasting. Maybe less confusion if they were called refried red beans. Then, we thought dinners came with pupusas. No. They came with two each thick tortillas (same as half pupusas with no filling as I could tell.) I enjoyed these thick homemade tortillas. The steak was not bad but I wish it had been served with its sizzle in tact. Salsa and coleslaw came as condiments though they might have been introduced with different names by Yanira. The coleslaw was a nice touch-served in a small jar with serving tongs. The salsa was tasting a bit like the V8 vegetable juice that you had as a kid or teen if you are a boomer. This meal could have really used some homemade spice sauce to add some kick to it. The main negatives today were the high music level at the back where we sat. That, and a busser man dragging some screeching and protesting chairs across the floor - to set up for a large party I believe. Real ear busters. The best part of the meal was the piping hot pupusas and our coffee. I would go back for those.

I doubt that made much difference to their clientele, but in its place is another family-run business, this time Salvadoran. This one offers more generic plates at student-friendly prices for undiscriminating palates. That's at least my take in the couple of occasions I've tried it after going to the gym. The first time I tried it I couldn't see the menu until I got up to the order counter. Then I made the server wait since the menu was so comprehensive (Photo 5). I went basic and ordered the $16.99 Chicken Platter because the kabob version was five dollars more. It was decent enough though on the bland side with rice, fresh tomato salsa, and a small side salad of iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumber, and radish (Photo 9). The menu mentioned a house white sauce. I didn't see it, but I also didn't miss it either. I came back to try them again. I tried ordering the $14.99 Scrambled Eggs with Beef Chorizo but was told they were out of chorizo. This was looking to be a recurring theme because I was rebuffed the first time when I unsuccessfully ordered the beef gyro. Ironically this time they had the $16.99 Beef Gyro Platter. The rice and salad were identical to my previous platter, the beef was just OK (Photo 10). FOOD - 3 stars...middling meats, edible but not overly appetizing AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough and nicely decorated SERVICE - 3 stars...minimal communication on the food and when it will be ready TOTAL - 3 stars...fitting for a student appetite, good enough for the rest of us if expectations are kept in check RELATED - Exploring Berkeley?
