I've been craving pupusas so we decided to check where could deliver from doordash! Pupusas salvadorenas was the first place that popped up so we decided to give it shot. I'm so glad that we did! The pupusas are pretty worth it! It's a good size for the price! It arrived wrapped individually which I appreciate so that the steam doesn't get them all soggy and stuck together, and I was able to reheat one by one if needed. We ordered chicken & cheese pupusas, and plain cheese pupusas. My favorite was the chicken, and I always order extra curtido (the cabbage stuff on top) because I love it, there's was a little different than I've had before-- it had a tangy taste, but still good! Its always tough to find weekday menudo, isn't it? It's the type of comfort food where my palate doesn't recognize it's not the weekend. After a brisk walk through Leona Canyon, I took note that this Fruitvale spot on the Grubhub app served menudo and there was no asterisk stating "Weekends only". I was in - even though the traffic around the High Street commercial area gets thick and convoluted. It turned out to be one of those shopping strip mall set-ups where a stream of regulars pick up their takeout orders. I had ordered in advance on the app, so they were just packaging it up as I arrived. The $14 Menudo had a higher price point than most, but it was really flavorful with plenty of tripe and cartilage though I was kinda missing the hominy (photo: https://bit.ly/3EuJQXT). I figured I should get one of their namesake specialties, so I went for the $4 Crazy Pupusa since I thought it would be, well, crazy. Not really. This was my first time eating Pupusas! I had watched YouTube videos talking about how they're made and the proper way to eat them. Now where's the nearest restaurant? GrubHub/Seamless were offering $5 promos to try this place, so over a 2 day period I ordered: - Pupusa de Frijol y Queso (beans and cheese) - Pupusas Revueltas (cheese, pork and beans) - Crazy Pupusa (chicken, cheese, spinach and jalapeno) - and 2 tacos, pork and chorizo These stuffed tortillas are great. They're fresh, homemade, and are packed in foil and sent in foam takeout boxes. They were still hot when they arrived! The warm creamy fillings are delicious, along with the curtido (slaw) and salsa. Also, the tacos were really good. The Chorizo Taco was really tasty. I will ordering from this place again! read more

I wanted to update this review with more stars but unfortunately - still not it. I ordered 6 pupusas (4 revuelta, 2 queso) I'd give all 1 star. I've been craving pupusas for the past 2 weeks but with the holidays everywhere's been closed. Well, with no other option I finally decided to give this place another try and was not satisfied. The masa was raw and the filling not tasty. They could definitely change their beans for the pupusas as well, wayyy too runny. We were quoted 18 minutes for our order to be ready as we ordered over the phone and we arrived 25 minutes later and still waited a bit (no problem) but my food was raw.. don't understand how that happened, I wouldn't have minded waiting even longer for quality food. I request the salsa verde instead of their tomato sauce for the pupusas as its spicier and has more flavor but even after asking for extra, it still wasn't enough for all 6 pupusas, wish they weren't so stingy. (Not like we ate all 6 anyways but the salsa was barely enough for the 3 we managed to get through.) Also ordered Platano frito w/ frijoles y crema id give these 3.5/5 they had potential and tasted yummy but were obviously re-fried and some parts super hard and inedible. Overall waste of $40+ and will not be returning, no matter how much I'm craving them lol read more

Some of the best pupusas I've had. To be honest, we tried this place because Platano unfortunately had to close due to COVID. We've now ordered from this place three times (Platano is now open again, so we will definitely be ordering from both). We could tell the pupusas were homemade and fresh. They came wrapped in tin foil, so they stayed hot throughout the delivery. We ordered the pickled cabbage, sour cream, and salsa to have the fixings. The horchata here is also fantastic. Tip: For three people, we got two orders of sour cream, salsa, and the pickled cabbage. This was plenty, and allowed for a lot extra. I would recommend one order of each per two people, unless you typically use a lot. Two pupusas each for us was also plenty of food with the toppings. read more

For lunch, we ordered 3 pupusas to share between 2 people: the pork and cheese, beef and cheese, and the "crazy" pupusa (chicken, cheese, spinach, jalapeno). Overall, the tortilla heft and texture reminds me of a thick gordita, yet the stuffed insides were steamed with melty cheese (smells like and made me think of tamales), while there was a light crunch on the outside from being hot off the flat kitchen griddle. Pupusas are made fresh to order, so expect about a 15 minute wait while they roll the dough and wrap your chosen stuffing, then cook it on the griddle. Ordered ours to-go and they were still warm and toasty about 10 minutes later when we arrived at our picnic spot. Pupusas come with a pickled/vinegary slaw of cabbage, carrots, onions, and jalapenos called "curtido". There was also a hot sauce, but it seemed more like a broth to me because the consistency was so watered down and there wasn't any kick or spice in flavor to it at all. Wish I had actual red or green salsa with this. Tastewise, the best was the pork and cheese. The beef and crazy chicken pupusas were rather bland by themselves. Meat didn't taste marinated nor seasoned like the pork. Also, not much spinach was detected in the crazy pupusa. Yet on the plus side all pupusas had a good and fair ratio of meat stuffed inside. Bad customer service! I walk in & the big chick at the register doesn't even greet me. She continues on your conversation with the cook, who isn't cooking or cleaning just on her phone. The free drink you get when you check in isn't even worth it. The horchata was not made well, tasted like water with cinnamon only. These pupusas were not authentic Salvadoran pupusas!! They had barely any meat inside! The mass looked raw still (not cooked all the way) I got so sick just eating half of a chicken & cheese pupusas. Lets not start on their salsa & the cabbage for the pupusas. The salsa tasted like a can of tomato sauce! & the cabbage that I love so much was literally just cut up cabbage and looked & tasted like they mixed it with a can of jalepenos.. Got a to-go order for some pupusas! They were so good and filling. They were not shy about the curtido. Yum!

I ordered a carnitas burrito from Pupusas Salvadorenas through Grubhub, took a bite and nearly broke a tooth. Who put rocks inside my burrito? I spit out a hard, fossilized chunk of pork and discovered the entire burrito was filled with this completely burnt and dry meat. I messaged Grubhub who reached out to the restaurant. They claim that the burrito was made to their "standards" and refused to work with Grubhub or provide any solutions. I guess if you expect an edible meal, you're gonna have to lower your standards a bit. read more

First of all, I would like to apologize on behalf of all of the sane Yelpers who have not forsaken the good name of Pupusas Salvadorenas. I came here on a work outing, and by the time I got around to eating my food I was so hungry that salted cardboard would have tasted like luxury. I enjoyed my pupusas way too much to be eating them in front of coworkers (I think I violated the sexual harassment trainings I ignored with some of the grunts of pleasure that escaped my salsa stained lips) and I wondered if they would've tasted so good if I wasn't hangry. Fast forward one month to tonight when hunger crept unwelcomed into my life. I spent the day at fairyland with three wild children, and was in no mood to feed myself. I gave my husband three of the hardest options I could think of for him to choose from and sent him forth into the concrete jungle to acquire us the Pupusas he chose. This place is only five minutes away from my house as opposed to los Olivos which is our usual go to spot. When I saw the reviews I have to say I was taken aback. Most of them seemed like heresy, but I was genuinely confused and worried at the prospect of so many fellow yelpers being so clueless. My husband assured me that if I had tried it once and survived that it was worth trying again and thank goddess we did. The woman who took our call in order was sweet as cherry pie, super polite and patient with my hunger induced slurring. The food was promptly ready in the 15 minutes stated and 5 minutes after picking up our glorious patty party I was shoveling them, piping hot, into my salivating jaws. The pupusas were perfect: seasoned and crisp masa stuffed to the brim with oozing cheese, loroco and beans. The tomato salsa was mild and perfect and the curtido tried its best to steal the whole damn show. Almost kimchi-like in its heavy dose of Chile, delightfully tangy chunks of jalapeños and carrots hidden among the red speckled sliced cabbage: a dream come true. In short: y'all haters are tripping, stop trying to keep this spot hidden so u can have all the goodies to ur self. I'm just lying in bed stuffed and so excited that my favorite pupuseria is only five minutes away. read more

Never ever again will I waste my time or money in this establishment.  I ordered 4 pupusas and was told it would take 12 minutes.  30 minutes later I watch 2 people, who mind you I witnessed order at the register after me get their items before me. When I questioned about it I was dismissed with a oh they ordered on the phone and are picking up. Really? Because I saw them order their food at the register?It was so obvious they were lying that I had to let it off and walk away. Then apparently they thought they could placate me with giving me a menu to their restaurants telling me to order ahead instead, yea right. Not to mention the 1/2 cup portion of cortido (pictured)they had the nerve to give for 4 orders! I could already tell being the only black woman in the establishment and the how dare she/who the f does she think she is being here looks I got from both staff and customers I knew what it was, and any other black woman in the Bay knows exactly what I'm talking about in how some of these places act. I think just the difference in cortido sizes from what I received and what's posted in reviews already speaks for that... Not even edible. Only thing they got right in the order was the horchata. Each pupusa came properly labeled as what we ordered but the actual food was wrong. my boyfriend and i placed our order of 8 pupusas at 9:10 am and were told the wait would be around 10-15 minutes. mind you, there were no customers before us when we placed our order, 20 minutes goes by and we still have not received our food and we were understanding that maybe it's almost done. throughout this time of our wait we've seen 4 people come in and get their food before us. after the 2nd person we realized we weren't going to be getting our food anytime soon. we felt as though they were doing more talking than cooking in the back as all we heard was them talking and laughing while we were waiting for our food. the woman at the register kept giving us glares probably because she knew they were well past the expected wait time and weren't going to be done anytime soon. for there to be 2 cooks and for half of the pupusas to be just cheese we felt like they were just wasting our time. finally we get our pupusas at 10 am, which was well over the 10-15 minute wait given to us. at this point we've been waiting 40+ minutes for our food. if you don't mind waiting 4x the expected wait time then this place is for you. but if you are hungry and are hoping to eat within the same hour of placing your order, do not go here. the overall store was clean but the service was not it. on top of that, the pupusas were not labeled which made it hard to know which ones were which. the pupusas themselves are good, not sure of they're good enough to wait over 40 minutes though. read more

We found out this place delivers to us during COVID, so our only experience is with delivery, but we've been very pleased so far. The pupusas are the best I've had since moving to California. I love the reveulta and bean and cheese in particular! The accompanying curtido is also great. We also loved the flautas and the plantains. The only thing we've had that we weren't thrilled with were the veggie burrito, which wasn't great. The food has also consistently arrived and remained piping hot. read more

My report on meal: The best papusa ever. Wasn't laden in grease. The Cortida served with it had just the right amount of spiciness to it. It was well seasoned and had no need for extra. The Ceviche Could've used a little more fish in it but the flavor was out of this world. I would definitely re-order these items again and I would recommend them to others! read more
