Zaguan Restaurant y Galeria - The Sopa Azteca (Sopa de Tortilla in the US) is probably the best in town.

If you walk too fast, youight just miss this hidden gem. Entering from a narrow door, the…read morerestaurant opens up to a high ceiling dining area. Local art (for sale) hang on the wall while the TV plays some classics pop music from the 80s(?) I was hungry and was looking for a big steak. Seeing most of the filete were 6.4oz, I was at first not sure if it will be enough. I went for the mole filete Encacahuatado. It came a garlic bread perfectly toasted. The steak sat on top of a bed of alfalfa sprout, zucchini and mushrooms. The star is of course the mole sauce. In the end, I finished everything including the bread. I was so full that I did not have room for the flan I wanted to try. The servers are all very polite and one spoke good English. I highly recommend this place. You may not get the ambience or mariachi singing live, but instead, you get excellent food and service.

If you're in GDL, this is a must stop and eat at place!…read more While staying in GDL for one night on business, I wanted to find something that was authentic to Mexico. Something that wasn't too flashy with the price amped up and definitely not a street vendor (whole other story)...came across this place on yelp. The pictures drew me in, the reviews sold me! Took a chance, hired an Uber and off I went to check this place out. Definitely a "hole in the wall" appearance from the street, but once you get inside you're greeted with the bright Mexican colors, the tasteful restaurant layout and attentive sincere staff. The food was phenomenal! 10/10 for the Tacos de Jicama!! (MUST TRY, over and over again!!) 9/10 Pulpo Loco! The Octopus was cooked to perfection! (Which is not an easy task)...Add the lovely light vegetables, then pair with the tamarind sauce, extremely delicious! Sadly, I wasn't pleased with the risotto. (Fix the risotto and you have 10/10 hands down!) Lastly, absolutely loved that they offer an English menu, traditional Mexican music on multiple tv's (volume was perfect for conversing), as well as gorgeous art for purchase. You will not be disappointed by this restaurant! Next time I'm in GDL, I'll be back and this time I'll be staying for dessert or two! PERFECTA

Patio Elegance at Real San Pedro…read more Real San Pedro in Tlaquepaque is more than a restaurant--it's an institution. The courtyard, cooled by Guadalajara's air and framed by open doors and windows, feels open yet welcoming. Inside, the walls are dotted with striking art, unique decorations, and large windows that pull every room back toward the heart of the patio. On Saturday afternoons, a live band plays gently in the background, giving the whole place a festive but unhurried rhythm. We started with sparkling water mixed with the traditional suero of salt and lemon--simple, refreshing, and perfectly suited to the warm afternoon. Guacamole came fresh, framed by crisp corn chips along the edges of the plate. The real star was the corn tortillas, served piping hot in an embroidered sack made just for the restaurant. Soft, fragrant, and full of flavor, they were so good we ordered a second round without hesitation. Service was attentive, though at moments it felt a little rushed. For mains, we ordered two classics. The Chile en Nogada arrived with a thick sauce made from evaporated milk, sugar, cream cheese, almonds, cinnamon, and even canned peach juice. The result was overwhelmingly sweet, drowning out the other elements like the meat and pomegranate. The Carne en su Jugo, described as meat with vegetables, came instead as a brothy, spicy soup. While not what we expected, it was hearty, comforting, and deeply flavorful. Real San Pedro draws many Mexican visitors, and it's clear why. With its mix of tradition, atmosphere, and lively energy, it's the kind of place that invites you to slow down, eat well, and soak it all in. #RealSanPedro #SaboresDeGuadalajara #Tlaquepaque

I walked in and the only thing I felt was their face looking and staring at me , I did not feel welcome, it was not just one person but the 6 ppl that were sitting in two tables. I could not believe that in Mexico I would ever feel unwelcome just bc of the color of my skin. With tears in my eyes I walk out bc the ppl there were very obvious and just with their nasty stares kick me out of a restaurant. Never in my life have I experienced this kind of situation.
