Chicken quesadilla
Nick S.

Alright Scotland, I'll grant you this- Los Cardos is a solid entry on the battlefield of Mexican flavor. It's not perfect, but when you can't be in The Mission it'll do! First, the good: the quesadillas are cheesy bombs of goodness. They're almost overly filling, and the chicken has decent flavor on its own. The sour cream and choice of salsa that come complementary are ample. However, even cheesy madness has its limits. By the end, cutlery is almost a requisite to handle the impending tortilla collapse. And despite its spicy billing, the "roastin' red salsa" is without any burn, at least for anyone with a taste for Sriracha.

Eat here far too often. carnitas is my favourite, although all the meats are pretty good. Nice loyalty card deals as well

Some of the better Mexican food I have had in Scotland. Very good service and casual Mexican…read moredecor. Started with some fried tortillas chips and salsa, guacamole and sour cream. These were fried in house but didn't come out warm and must have been done earlier. They were still pretty good although unlike in the US there was a charge for the tortilla chips rather than complimentary as many places in the states provide. Chicken fajitas were nice ( I tried my friends) but there are better things on the menu that are tastier. I had the shredded beef chimichanga with refried beans and rice. It was good and I'd recommend it at £13.50 as very reasonable for central Edinburgh. My other friend had the chicken burrito with black mole sauce. I tried the mole sauce and it was good although pretty sweet an I didn't get much more than sweet chocolate coming through. I'd personally get it on the side but if you have a sweet tooth go for it. All in all very good and I would definitely come back again.

A couple doors down we saw Mexican and thought why not!?! As an American I had very low expectations, as I just couldn't fathom good Mexican in Scotland. But guess what, I was proven wrong!!! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and spicy! The queso wasn't the best but I'll give them a pass because my desert was maybe one of the best things I have eaten in my life! My dessert was horchata ice cream (that tasted like dulce de leche) and cinnamon sugar flour tortilla chips. We had a spa appt and couldn't stay, but I would have finished it all!!! Highly recommend if you are in Edinburgh and want something different.

The ambiance is upbeat and good Spanish music. Fairly extensive menu of street tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, starters. Good variety of tequilas and margaritas. We shared between three of us: grilled prawn tostadas, roasted cauliflower street tacos, charred corn and refried bean quesadillas, chipotle roast vegetables quesadillas. Husband also ordered shredded honey pork tacos. Everything was very flavorful. Nothing spicy though. The Union Mezcal old fashioned margarita was good with mezcal tequila although a bit too sweet. The Tommy margaritas were even sweeter. Overall a very good dinner and I would recommend.
