We came on Good Friday... so it was busy, very very busy.... We knew before coming here it would be busy. Difficult to figure out the system for ordering and seating but once we did, we tipped the waitress upfront and she took care of us the rest of the night. Loud environment with great DJ! In December of 2024, while enjoying vacation time with loved ones in the San Juan area, we wanted to spend a "day at the beach" and decided to go to one on the north coast and east of the populated city area. After swimming in the warm Caribbean waters, we decided to enjoy dinner in a bar & restaurant we passed while driving to the beach. This review is about my experiences at the Los Barriles Restaurant. Los Barriles means "the barrels", which explains why the whiskey barrels are promptly displayed on their front sign. This bar & restaurant is very versatile in its services and is located just off the main road and on the northern coastal shores of the beach. Parking is tricky because their private lot is very small, but you can always park across the street or further down along the main roadside. Although you are dining mere feet from the ocean, this beach is surrounded by a protective reef barrier. This means that it is more like a "confined pool" area and allows for "wading" in the water, as opposed to actual "swimming". But this all makes for a breathtaking view to enjoy while dining-out at the exterior tables. Speaking of dining-in, customers have various options to enjoy their meals. There is a grab-n-go shop at the front that is facing roadside. This is where you can find "quick bites" like bacailitos, alcapurrias, tostones and more, all visible behind a glass counter. Next, you can walk in and sit at their bar-counter area, which also has televisions for watching sports. Then, there are 2 interior dining areas with huge table seating, making them perfect for large groups of friends or family; one is on an upper-deck and is close to a stage platform. I imagine that when they have live band music, folks get up and dance in the ample space in the same area. This makes great for celebrations. Finally, there is exterior table seating that allows for groups of 4 to have a panoramic view of the beach and shoreline, only separated by a paved path that runs along the coast. Los Barrilles Restaurant has delicious seafood and traditional Puerto Rican dishes that were reasonably priced, considering the ocean view. I thoroughly enjoyed my Mofongo con Chicharrones de Pollo and tostones. My relatives enjoyed their pescado (fish) with rice & beans and Mofongo. Food flavoring was on-point, portion size was good and textures were great. Now for the negatives. The two major factors that hurt our dining experience was their service and their bathrooms. As many reviews have stated, their service is lacking. When we first sat down, we were greeted by a man who was friendly, bilingual and helped to answer our inquiries about the menu. The problem is that after we got our menus, he disappeared and didn't return until about 20 minutes later... Typically, your waiter will give you menus and take drink orders or give you water. This wasn't the case here. So the service wasn't necessarily "rude", it was simply lacking and very untimely. I ended up searching for our waiting to let him know that we were ready to place our orders. After this encounter, it was almost as if they didn't want us to pay either, because they hadn't come to check on us WHILE eating. We COULD have easily just walked away after enjoying our lovely meal. Makes me wonder if this is an issue for them? As for the bathroom, I didn't have to use the men's, but I was told that the ladies restroom was filthy, had no paper towels, issues flushing the toilet and there was no running water from the sink to wash your hands. All things considered, Los Barriles Restaurant was a good experience overall. The prices, the flavors, the portions and the views made it all worthwhile. But I recommend carrying baby wipes (at all times) and don't be afraid to demand better service from the staff. read more

I disagree with any review below 4-5 stars. It might be in an area that looks unsafe to the poisoned American but it's not. It's delicious. It's hard to find deep fried Puerto Rican food as good as we had it here. My only do I go back and do recommend this place I give people crap who come and don't try in. Pinones is a great place for great food (especially Los Barrilles) and beautiful beaches Oh and I don't like seafood. They have enough options that I could stop here 5 times and eat something different read more

Service: Good., Except the fact that the waiter tried to scam and over charged us for 2 fried snapper fish) that was ordered, however added 1 extra one on our tab., then when we paid and gave the waiter a tip, he told my daughter that we didn't tip him enough. My daughter took a picture of the receipt, only for us to review what was charged, and there it was an extra fish dish. My daughters and one of her friends (who speaks Spanish) went back to dispute charges, only for that same waiter to run and pretend he was busy (played it off and went to the back of the restaurant) my daughters and her friends complained about being over charged and the manager walked to the waiter and pulled out the cash we gave him., he knew that he was caught. The manager gave back the cash with no questions/dispute (NO apology, either) handed the money to the girls, and left. shame on them for trying to scam us out of $70. We should have asked for the tip back, too). Shame on your employees for trying to scam us. And OR if the entire crew is ON board for what that one waiter did. We went to the piñones beach and we stop at Los barriles I had the seafood mix w/ rice and maduro . Parcha smoothie with rum is he food was very good and the smoothie very strong but not he service was really slow it tooks 30 min to get are meals. read more

The fried red snapper reminds me of Boca Chica, D.R. I love that it is oceanfront with live music, and we had amazing service.

Beautiful location, but be prepared to spend at least 2 hour or more hours there. Service is incredibly slow if you're lucky to even receive service. If you're coming from the states, they won't serve you except for drinks. Walk along the strip instead. read more

A great spot to go to when you are bar hopping. We stopped in on a Friday and had an amazing time at better than happy hour prices. The beer and drinks were flowing, cold and plentiful. We order a platter of carne frita, chicharrónes de pollo and tostones and they were off the hook. The owner even provided us with a seafood soup that was amazingly delicious for free. The music was great, we danced all night and had so much fun. By the time the tab came it was barely over $50. What a deal!!! My wife and I learned of Los Barriles through an acquaintance. It was easy to find and we were fortunate to find parking directly across the street. The mojitos were the best I've ever had. We shared an order of calamari. It, too, was excellent. We both had red snapper with tostones and rice and beans and mofongo. The snapper was excellent - the best I've had in years. The tostines and mofongo were very good as well. Los Barriles is open air and is located on a beautiful beach. Our waitress was good too. I ordered oyster here they brought out the worst oysters ever. We complained and they brought out the same oysters we complained about. I recommend you continue with a different in PR. I've never had an hard part of a mussel. According to Google it's call an adductor mussel. read more

We stopped here with our fishing captain after a morning of fishing for tarpon. The freshest food we had on the island. We had the appetizer conch and it was our first time having conch and it was refreshing, light, and really good. Had the different chicken dishes and both were great. Another example of deep fried beach seafood goodness 5 minutes from the airport. Just like the other stands in Piñones, this stand has various alcapurrias and empanadas as well as bacalaitos. Take your food to go and stroll to the beach in 30 minutes. Get your rental car and drive around 187 across the bridge and pick this or any food stall along the road. In fact, if you plan on staying in Fajardo, take 187 instead of 3 or the 66 toll road. The road is more scenic and a much more pleasant drive. read more
