Definitely not a 4 experience but will do if you're not around good Tex-Mex. The beers are cold, margaritas ehh as well as the service. I had fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, guacamole, queso, queso with beef in my 4 trips to this establishment. I really wanted it to work out but what goes up must come down like a lead balloon. Worst plate of Mexican food ever. Apparently a chile relleno is a little scoop of cold ground beef with a piece of poblano chile laid over the top and drizzled with white velveta type cheese. The cold cheese enchilada had no sauce and was cold. The ground beef taco was tasteless and cold as well. Rice and beans were ok but were lukewarm. On the other hand, the shrimp fajitas my husband ordered looked good. The jalapeño poppers he also ordered were fried hard and appeared scorched. I wish I had taken pictures. read more

We're visiting from out of state and while driving on the highway looked for a quick bite. I am so glad we stopped at Los Agave's. The waiter was extremely attentive, kind and made sure we knew we were still in the window for lunch time specials. It was very clean inside, including the restrooms which is always a good sign and extra points in my book. The food is outstanding. I got the steak California burrito and every single bite was delicious and packed with flavor. It is massive and comes with queso all over it which is always a great touch. My husband ordered the same except he asked for the rice and beans on the side and the portions are generous! We will be back. It was fantastic. Los Agave's is an above average Tennessee small town Mexican restaurant. For many years, this place had been the Cup and Saucer, one of the iconic diners in the state. But the last time I visited the Cup, the business was for sale. The new owners have done a splendid job with converting the old building into a new more modem look but keeping the traditions of good service, family atmosphere, reasonable prices and always good food. I tried the choripolo and it rates in the top half of the state. The chicken was tender not tuff. The chorizo on top was plentiful but a bit mild for my taste. The rice and beans were average. Generous serving size. Loved the service and the fact that locals were there in abundance. The place remains a community center. read more

Prompt service, pleasant atmosphere and very good food. Date night with my husband. He suggested Los Agaves in Monterey. I ordered a tacas margarita which was smooth tasting on the rocks. I ordered the Carna Asada and he ordered the Burrito Texacana. Both meals were generous in proportion and good taste. Definitely a new place for us, soon to be repeat customers! As a local, I have eaten here several times. The food is ok but a tad bland; service has been ok until today. We went in around 2pm. There were about five tables, one with about eight people. We were awkwardly directed toward a book on the bar side by the owner/manager. An employee brought us chips. Then nothing... no server ever came to the table. There were at least a half dozen employees, two in the same room, and only one other table in the room we were at. After a 20-minute wait and being ignored by the staff walking past our table, we left. Service wasn't bad; it was non-existent. As a local, we have extremely limited dining choices in Monterey. I recommend not wasting time or money at this place and driving to the next town. read more

Kind of disappointed to even write this. We have been loyal customers since this location opened. We would eat here usually once per week. We were really excited to have a great restaurant in our small town. Lately I'm not sure what's happening but the quality of the food and service has gone way down hill. The last 2 times we have ordered to go items were left out of our order and it's been an ordeal trying to get the items. Not to mention we have to make another trip up there to pick up the forgotten items. Tonight I ordered a shredded chicken quesadilla which I've gotten many times before. My husband and I just moved to the area and had to check this place out. Wow! We've gotten take out over 4 times now in 2 weeks. It's really good food, hot and fast. I always walk in and order cause they're really fast, I don't end up waiting long. Everything comes out just how I ordered it and by the time I drive home, 15 minutes away, it's still hot! We've had the fajitas every time we order cause they're that good. Quesadilla and burrito are also good. Fresh homemade chips and salsa always accompany the order. Everyone is always nice. It's a nice looking and clean restaurant inside and has some cute outdoor seating on sidewalk. We're going to have to sit down and eat here soon instead of getting takeout all the time. read more

Their food was very good, good quantity, the price was very fair, and the service was excellent. I am very picky about my Mexican food or Central American food because I've been there, and I know what's good. These folks live up to my expectations. We went here last night with family before heading out to look at Christmas lights. They were accommodating of our 7 person party and provided fast service despite our numbers. Chips and salsa kept coming as long as we wanted it. The menu is rather extensive with many different options. Drinks and food was a good size and quality. Driving through between Knoxville and Nashville you gotta stop! Had the molcajete and it literally was in the top 2 of tastiest Mexican meals over ever had! Perfectly flavorful but not spicy.
