Stumbled into this warm and inviting pub on the way home from a weekend away…read more Right away we knew we'd struck gold. The staff were very welcoming and the menu varied and exciting. I settled for a Steak and Ale Suet Pudding... before it even arrived I knew I'd be in for a treat, everyone around us were eagerly tucking into there dishes. When our meals arrived we were not dissapointed, the puddings was cooked to perfection, the vegetables were obviously fresh. Pub food: but done excellently, fairly priced, warm welcoming staff and environment. A Must!

This is our favorite diner and social bar throughout the UK. My wife of 40 years, (Linda originally…read morefrom Yorkshire) and I frequented this pub mainly on Fridays and weekends while doing our postgraduate degrees at Lancaster University. In fact, my first date with Linda was at the plough, in August of 1974. We were students then, so had a tight budget, so we kept our appetite under control and enjoyed the best Fish and chips, Cumberland sausage, meat pies and mushy peas.... Linda and I got married in 1976, 3 months after our getting our PHD and Masters degrees respectively; we worked in three Continents Europe, Middle East (Asia) and America. We always had a soft spot for the Plough Inn at Galgate, it remained as one of the best places we got to know. Having lived in Michigan USA (since 1985) with our three children, my daughter Carol turned 18 in 2004 so we decided to take her on a pilgrimage to the plough Inn since the legal drinking age in America is 21. We invited a few of our friends from all over the UK for a reunion after 30 years and had a great time (picture attached). Carol, my daughter started where her parents left off. We enjoyed every minute of being there and the food was as expected, second to none in England. Life was great and our memories are only kept at this pleasant location that gave us Boddingtons and Lagers to forget about the week's science overload doing Biochemistry; Of course, there were times that we only had Shandy and Lager & Lime on Saturdays because of a typical Friday night student pub-crawls on campus . In summary, never hesitate about the Plough Inn, Food, scenery and friendly staff will impress you. We are retiring by the end of this year and we will be visiting our favorite spot for probably the last time. Congratulations to the Plough for maintaining our memories by having such a wonderful business. What else does any man want? A good wife for over 4 decades and great food all found at the Plough Inn!

Plough Inn - Trio of sausages. Usually comes with mash but we requested chips which they happily did.

After an 18km walk round Bolton Abbey, three hungry people needed some decent food down their neck…read moreand boy, did we find it here. A lovely country village pub with a roaring fire and a lot of people enjoying good food and great service (and dog friendly). The starters were go good the three of us couldn't choose which one we wanted, so a surprised staff member delivered their first (I'm sure) four starters for three people (there's nothing wrong with one for the table right!?). There was quite a strange silence fallen over the table as we devoured our starters. The creamy garlic mushrooms were amazing, the goats cheese peignet with pickled beetroot (for sharing) was delicious, and the pork spring rolls and pâté were met with equal delight. The mains of slow cooked pork belly (with roasts not mash), the steak & ale pie with chips and corn fed chicken supreme were all very well presented and more importantly, tasted amazing. The pork with LOTS of crackling was only let down let down by the lack of Yorkshire pudding (I know, not meant to have it with Pork dinner but I wanted one and it wasn't allowed due to exact numbers being made). The food was washed down with two bottles of white Rioja and followed by some beautiful desserts of chocolate brownie and Baileys Creme Brûlée with cookie. All in all, a perfect Sunday roast and for £122, was pretty impressive. Note: the staff were young but were absolutely honest and professional. It was great to see and they brought the food out promptly and couldn't have been nicer. A great find.

It really was a pleasure to hang around here, despite being ever so slightly chilly (I'm used to the balmy climate of London). The views are awesome, there's wildlife everywhere and plenty of dogs around if you're a dog person. The lunch was in the cruck barn and this is really an. Exceptional building, it looks old despite being only 10 years old! The decor is perfect. Except maybe the projection of the menu, not the biggest fan if that (it was hard to read). The food was impeccable, I had the pigeon and venison and it was perfect, the table generally seemed very pleased with their food so I think everything else was good too! The roast looked incredibly, serious food envy there. The drink selection, as you would expect in a decent traditional Yorkshire pub, was local and very very good. If you're in the area (or even just in the north east) then I would definitely recommend coming here for some food. Beware the roads however, super difficult to drive around.

It was a surprise meal and the staff were so helpful..letting me decorate the table earlier in the day and giving us a lovely big table in the conservatory. The place never feels overcrowded despite it always being full. It says something about a pub that not only is quite out of the way and but you always have to book! The pub has no online presence apart from a under used Facebook page, which is a shame seeing the menu is so extensive and the range of produce on offer. I haven't spent time in the bar but it seems very popular with locals and walkers. The wine selection is reasonable but doesn't bowl you over.. However this is a pub however with the quality of the food it is easy to forget! The menu ranges from Steak & Lobster for £25 (amazing quality plus where else can you get that for £25!!) to epic sandwiches and more standard pub grub. The Man V Food section of the menu is not for the faint hearted.. The '3 burgers of the Apocalypse' is actually 3 double burgers.. even my partner who can put his food away didn't manage to finish.. For £12 it's serious value! I haven't yet tried their planks of meat and cheese but that's next on my list .. The pantry looks fantastic with hanging meats and a huge variety of local cheeses. The service has let it down a bit it was ranged from attentive to very slow .. especially on my partners birthday it took forever to even get menus.. but I wouldn't let this put you off. So if you are stuck for a Sunday lunch and fancy chilling out in a lovely pub then I'd say get yourselves booked in.

You could taste chef's effort put in each dish. The staff was very friendly, smiling and the atmosphere was fantastic. They also have a huge fireplace that they use when it's cold.
