A bronze statue (erected by Thomas Farrell, 1892) of Lord Ardilaun, aka Sir Arthur Edward Guinness, 1st Baron Ardilaun, 2nd Baronet. He made St. Stephen's Green a public park. In 1880, there were plans to fill the park with buildings; Lord Ardilaun is known for giving the park to the people. Now his statue is in honor of him, and faces the old Iveagh House.
If you're on your way to DART station or to Graffton St., stop and take a look this statue for once. The park sits behind him, but imagine it with a bunch of buildings and how much more crowded this place would be. This park isn't as huge as NY's Central Park, but the fact that it was preserved is reason enough to give this man a bit of appreciation. read more
