Most of life I have been a reader but not so much the past few years. I always have at least one…read morestack of books that I want/intend to read but they haven't been moving much, the stack just gathers dust sadly. Recently a friend told me about the library's Libby app that is FREE where I can borrow audible books. I was excited about the prospect of "reading" in this new (for me) way. I tried to get things set up on my phone but was having some issues so I stopped in the the Ferndale Library. The staff there is over the top amazing. I wish I had gotten the name of the lady who helped me that day. Not only did she get me all set up on the Libby app, she anticipated my future questions and needs and I learned a lot! It took all of five minutes! Not only is the staff here awesome, Ferndale Library has got a great parking lot, is very inviting and there are so many new things to discover for example lots of other online resources! I'm the past few weeks I have "read" more books than I have in the past few years on the Libby app! So handy while walking dogs or even driving or doing chores! If you haven't been to the library in awhile, you might want to stop in and see what's new!!!

We drove about two hours from downtown Seattle to Amacortes and took the Washington State ferry to the island. Everybody on the island was very nice. When we returned we enjoyed a delicious dinner while over looking the water before taking the ferry back to Anacortes.

There's something very special about a post office in a faraway place. It's a link to someone else;…read morean unseen string that connects you to them with nothing more than a few strokes of the pen, and a stamp. It also seems like a connection to a different time; a bygone era when we chose paper over pixels, cute cards over keyboards, and real connection over virtual reality. Perhaps today, as our society currently sits in isolation, a post office feels a little less distant in the past. Yes, a post office is a place where you send and pick up greetings from afar, and for a just a moment, that stamp connects your minds and hearts. Maybe you send a postcard from a trip. Maybe it's a letter from an overseas assignment. Or maybe it's a birthday card, painted with beautiful daffodils, or daisies, or dahlias; just to tell someone that you're thinking of them, you're glad they're doing well, and to wish them the very happiest of everythings. Yes, this post office has all of that charm. Located on "20 Jack and Jill Place," you couldn't ask for a more picturesque place. Perched on the incline headed out of Deer Harbor on Orcas Island, it houses just a few PO Boxes for this tiny community. There are three post offices on the island, actually, and it says something about my affinity for snail mail that I've been into two of them, and been by the third. I actually use the one right up the road from the ferry most often, as I sometimes send cards to friends on my way off the island. Especially today, I'm thinking about this post office and that connection it makes between two people.

The post office itself is really cute and well maintained and the workers are really friendly. They kind if give off a small town feel but it's to be expected from the people that live on the island. I pulled over and rolled my window down and took a few pictures and a video. It tilted its head when I talked to it and it ran off when another vehicle drove by. Cattle Point is managed thru the Bureau of Land Management and is one of the features constituting the San Juan Islands National Monument. Some information about the area can be found on the San Juan Islands National Monument website in their Monument Site Catalog. The land abuts the Cattle Point Natural Resources Conservation Area run by the Department of Natural Resources. To the south is the Strait of Juan De Fuca. To the north is private land. I parked in the small pull-out by the trail leading to lighthouse. There are a few signs along the trail to the lighthouse with information about Cattle Point and its history and wildlife. I encountered four deer while I was here. Three grazing that made their way north and one grazer that made its way east and into the brush. The views are breathtaking and reminded me a bit of some of the views in the Outer Isles of Scotland. The cloudy sky made the walk enjoyable and I liked the backdrop of grey. Peaceful place to explore.
