This is one of the cleanest towns I have ever been in. The conservation society of this town really…read moreputs the money to great use because all the houses are older but they look to be in pristine condition. The town has a very nice rustic feel but modern at the same time and what a spectacular view of the water. Oh my gosh. Even driving the road directly after you get off the ferry, it has such great views. I think the town used to be a fort, but don't quote me on that. It's a very very nice town. It does seem to be a town of "more tenured" folks. Also, I think this may be the hub for Island County because there is a jail and some social services for Island Co. there. You can also rent a kayak or canoe and paddle around the area and get spectacular views of the area.

I wasn't planning to visit an art store today or even Coupeville, but my friend offered to meet for…read morelunch and I ended up with the only parking spot left on Front street.. right in front of Meet Market. I was intrigued by the "hang out & make art" sign in the window and decided to stop by after lunch. As I walked in, I was immediately welcomed by The Decemberists' sweet musical embrace. One of my favorite bands playing? How did they know! And it just ended up being the sweetest little art shop. Queer-friendly (and queer-owned, I found after googling later on!) with local art for purchase and a wide variety of art supply mediums. I wish I'd had more time to check out the studio/"maker art" side of the shop, because it looked wonderful. I will absolutely make a special trip over the next time I'm passing through Whidbey.

I popped in here while visiting La Conner and was so happy I did. They have a great selection of…read morelocal authors as well as new releases and best sellers. They also have a nice children's section that I enjoyed perusing. It was an inviting atmosphere and quiet so you could look around at your leisure.
