My husband and I came here on an adventure through Whidbey Island. This library is gorgeous inside and out. Even though it is not large they have utilized their space perfectly and have the best aspects of all the libraries I've visited thus far. I didn't want to leave, ever!

Grandma and I like to come to Oak Harbor Library to pick out movies to watch together when I spend…read moreovernights with her. Sometimes she will have some items on hold and we will pick those up too. They also have an area with books for sale, which we have perused on occasion just for light reading or looking for presents. The movie section is located just inside the front door and movies are shelved by category. I find this convenient if not familiar with the movie titles, it gives at least a genre to start the search for a good watch. There are self check-out and worker check-out options. We typically go the self check-out way. A returns slot is located outside the main entrance to the library. Parking is available in both a larger lot and in a few quick visit (15 minutes or less style thing) spots. The quick visit spots have less of an incline between then and the entrance of the library, which is helpful if anyone in the visiting party has difficulty with inclines.

I really loved going to this library every week as it was a good place to be and hangout with my…read morefriends, but recently i was with a group of my friends around the recetangular table in the middle, then a random guy comes out of nowhere yelling gibberish about how my friends and I where on the second floor disturbing him (me and my friends on this day were not at all on the second floor) and while saying these things, he came next to me and he clenched his fist ready to punch me. I was really scared for my life (being a high-school teenager) but the security guard, the staff and the people around us did nothing, and I and my friends were frozen in fear, the guy randomly left, so we thought he came to his senses or he realized that we were never in the second floor, so we continued on our own business. Then suddenly 10 or minutes after that, the guy shoved me hard and I knocked down one of my friends that was sitting next to me, so the rest of my friends left calmly, to call security or ask for help, and the guy that shoved me kept talking more gibberish about us in the second floor bothering him, so the person next to me was desperately trying to explain we were never in the second floor today, (keep mind that nobody including the security guards did anything, I don't think they even cared) then the guy randomly called his dog on the second floor in the library (and keep in mind that pets are strictly not allowed in the library and I was so scared the dog was going to maul me) and then the guy was yelling for the security to come (which up on to this point was literally doing nothing) and he told the security guard that we were on the second floor bothering him (the security guard knew we never were on the second floor) the security guard then said to me and the guy that we will be kicked out if we don't stop bothering each other, the guy then left to the second floor(and I was thinking thats it? You're not going to do anything about himself assaulting me?) And I was so shocked that the people around me, the security guard and the staff did nothing about this. (Also keep in mind that one time me and my friend was throwing around a light ball in the library and we were threatened to be kicked out of the library and we had to really apologize to be not kicked out) so if I throw around a ball I get kicked out of the library but if a random guy assaults me he gets of scott free. (I don't feel safe anymore in this library especially when the staff didn't care a vulnerable high-school kid was being assaulted infront of them)

I like the cleanliness and newer look of this library. Huge plus for the air purifiers around too. I usually come in the morning on weekdays and it's never very busy. My favorite area is the couch chairs in the back which has nice lighting and is a peaceful place to read. It's also next to a large meeting room which I've never seen used but it's very spacious, equipped with tables, chairs, and whiteboards.

Before we had the internet set up at our house, I came here to use the wireless network and was able to get some work done while my son played. They even had a little craft project at the end of class that tied into the book theme. We really enjoyed that. The songs were so fun and interactive and the staff leader was so sweet with the kids.
