I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. For a scheduled 5:30 PM appointment, the stylist arrived 40 minutes late. I was required to remain on the phone with customer service for over 30 minutes just to confirm whether the stylist would arrive at all. Once the appointment began, the service was extremely rushed and unprofessional. The stylist did not follow my provided inspiration photos, did not apply hairspray to my updo until I specifically asked, and completed the entire service in approximately 15 minutes. As a result, the hairstyle did not last through the event. Additionally, the stylist who arrived was not the individual shown on the app profile, which was both concerning and uncomfortable. When I requested to cancel the appointment and receive a refund due to the lateness, misrepresentation, and poor quality of service, I was told this was not possible. Overall, this was a highly disappointing, uncomfortable, and unacceptable experience that fell far below any reasonable standard of service. I am requesting this issue be formally reviewed and escalated.
