    DuPont Pavillon - 11/29/2025

Longwood Gardens 29th November 2025 Holiday Evening 7PM We were here during the holidays. As long time members of the New York Botanical Garden and Wave Hill Gardens in New York, we were blown away by the immense acreage and extensive splendor of Longwood. Longwood is funded by the DuPont family and is very well organized. There's much to see. Expect to spend at least 2-3 hours enjoying the spectacular array of flora. We're heading back this summer to see it in another season besides the gorgeous sparkly winter holiday season. Enjoy!

Wife and I went to Longwood Gardens and decided to try the new 1906 restaurant. First the new area is beautiful and you can see the scenery from the bar. We decided to sit at the bar and try the starters/apps. We had the smoked olives, mushroom pate, veggie chips and lobster arnechie. Food was fantastic. Staff was so friendly, will definitely be back again. Remember to make reservations for sitting in the room. We were lucky to get seats at the bar

No matter the time of year, it's always beautiful and festive at Longwood Gardens! I was able to enjoy the holiday season this year and what a wonderful light show they offer as you walk through the entire garden. Longwood garden offers both indoor and outdoor exhibits all year around and they have amazing displays of a variety of plant species! Everything you can imagine and as beautiful as the eye see. I'm amazed and impressed of all the exotic plants down to the succulents and cacti. Plant arrangements are all set with perfection and creativity and are an amazing work of art! You can enjoy the garden at your leisure and at your own pace. There's plenty of food outlets with a huge cafe and onsite restaurant along with an amazing, but fairly pricy, gift shop. Employees were also very accommodating with any questions and checking in through the gate was a breeze with your scanned ticket. Be prepared to be amazed and do some walking all day and be sure to have enough memory on your phone for all the pictures you'll end up taking! lol

Longwood Christmas is always extremely magical and well put together! Tickets are required this time of year and could be extra for some memberships. No matter the weather, it can be pretty busy! This year's theme was gems, and they were scattered throughout the grounds and conservatory! Lots of jaw, dropping lights, decoration, and flower displays! Longwood also has a higher end cafe with lots of options for everyone! Always a great experience!!!

I Beg Your Garden 1,100-acre public gardens that's considered one of the "premier" horticulture display gardens in the US. It's been open to the public since 1921 thanks to the DuPont family, and welcomes in a whopping 1.6-million(!) visitors annually. The were also recently named "Best Botanical Garden in the US" by USA Today®** reader's poll. The Good: *Despite the popularity, this place never felt crowded because it's so massive. *Be sure to catch one of the water fountain shows, complete with music. *Open year-round *Lots of events so check the calendar before you visit. *Holiday light displays, if you're lucky enough to visit during that time of year. *Lots of indoor gardens, so even on an especially cold or hot day this wouldn't be a bad idea to visit. The Meh: *Kinda out in the middle of nowhere. *Not the cheapest at $32-35/per adults and $17-20/kids (5-18), but more on that in a minute. The Ugly: *Prices fluctuate by date and time. Hint: it's cheaper during the week. Conclusion: Amazing place to visit for plant and nature lovers alike. Highly recommended. **https://longwoodgardens.org/news/press/longwood-gardens-named-best-botanical-garden

Hubby accompanied me to A Longwood Christmas. We started with lunch at 1906. We chose the 3-course pre-fixe lunch option. The food and service never disappoint, even though our favorite person, long-time employee Natalie, wasn't working. John did a superb job for a wonderful dining experience. My first day visiting A Longwood Christmas exhibit in January, the last week of the exhibit. I must say Longwood was definitely not as crowded, and I felt like I had time to stop and enjoy all the floral delights and ask questions like how the plants are watered. There are underground hoses in every section, supplying room-temperature water. Even my husband had questions, like about the new conservatory: why are some windows on the roof open? We learned there is an automated system tied to the weather for internal climate control. The displays were still amazing and lovely, even with a few days before closing. And all those poinsettias that are grown just for the exhibit get mulched.

Beautiful botanical gardens, wandering paths, treehouses, farm house galleries and so much more. I returned to finally get to see the 3rd treehouse my 2 children and I never got to see when they were little - too far for their little legs to walk. Now my son is 6ft 4" and about to enter college and my daughter is a busy pre-school teacher. Returned to visit with my son...happy we got to see the 3rd (and furthest) treehouse together, walk the meadows and visit the farmhouse galleries.

Longwood was *stunning* this year. We weren't able to get tickets the last few years so seeing all the new installments made the even more fabulously festive. It had snowed heavily the day before but everything at longwood was shoveled and salted. Everything looked so beautiful covered in snow, it truly was a winter wonderland! I was a little disappointed that the tree house was closed, but I knew longwood did it out of an abundance of caution since the steps looked extra icy. Parking lots were shoveled as well. There were little drink stations on the route where you could get beer, wine, or hot chocolate. I got the Bailey's hot chocolate and it was FABULOUS. So creamy and chocolate. Not very heavy on the Irish cream part but it was so perfect for the weather. It kept me toasty on the inside until we got to the cafe. I got the citrus glazed salmon entree that came with seasonal veggies and mashed potatoes. I wanted to get the leek and potato soup but they were all out. I bought a festive wintery hard cider which was refreshing and My husband stood in line for 10 min to get me a peppermint spiked hot chocolate that was the icing on the cake! All the exhibits were fabulous, it truly is something you have to see to experience it. I cannot recommend it enough!!

I cannot believe this was my first time at Longwood Gardens! This place is a magical escape into the gardens and the forest. Wanting to move our ticket time an hour later, we called the gardens first thing at 10 am, and did have to wait on hold for some time before getting help. I imagine many people run into the same issue as we did. However, we were able to change our ticket time with the $8 fee, though this was worth it for our schedule. We came in the late afternoon to be able to see some of the gardens in the light and also stay until after sunset to see the Christmas light decor. While all of the gardens were wonderful to walk through, the Forest Walk was especially magical at night. It was lit beautifully, and the lights syncing with the music was mesmerizing. I definitely recommend visiting Longwood Gardens and I cannot wait to come back in the spring for a new season of blooming!

Longwood gardens is a must for nature enthusiasts. You'll easily hit 10,000 steps in a visit walking to all six districts . The greenhouse themes went from jungle to desert. One of the star attractions is the main fountain garden. Also worth noting, the well curated bonsai collection. The open meadows and paths through the woods are beautiful, especially in the Fall as you can see the changing leaves. The cafeteria has a variety of foods from soups, sandwiches, salads, even adult beverages. There is also a beer garden on the premises, where live performances take place. Parking was easy where staff guides you from the parking lot to the main entrance. The entire experience is enjoyable and relaxing. I can't wait to go back this Spring!

I went to Longwood Gardens on Monday afternoon (bought tickets the same day) and had such a lovely day! They still have their Autumn's Colors installation until the 16th, so it was nice to see that. In previous visits, I've always gone during the holidays. In addition to the various floral displays, there were some kid friendly areas. We were there with a group and the kids loved the tree houses. The gift shop was also great, they had a nice selection of ornaments, home decor, stationary, and other items. Hoping to visit again during the holidays so that I can try the 1906 restaurant!

I had no expectation and wow -- so gorgeous and massive! I've always enjoy colors in nature but going with friends who know things is much more charming! It's hard to put into words just how pleasant walking through Longwood Gardens is. Longwood Gardens has everything: so many varieties of trees, flowers, and vegetable plants, plus beautiful fountains and walking paths. The fountain show was a fun surprise. Be careful where you stand for this! Getting soaked did turn out to be perfect on a hot day, though. Speaking of, it's best to time your visit during the cooler parts of the year. The conservatory areas are a bit cooler than the fully outdoor areas but if it's hot, the main limiter to covering the full gardens will be the heat. Also, food from outside isn't allowed. Well, really, food that's in plain view of staff at the entrance isn't allowed... 4 hours was enough to watch a fountain show, see the Main Fountain Garden District, and see the Conservatory District. The Idea Garden in the Main Fountain District is an interesting mix of vegetable plants, fruit plants, herb plants, flowers, and more. We were lucky to get an unofficial tour of parts of the Idea Garden from a very passionate staff member who shared interesting facts about the plant varieties. The Conservatory District is absolutely beautiful, and I particularly loved the Waterlily Court. Despite the fact that it's a well known tourist site, it was a peaceful and beautiful experience to the point where I didn't want to leave. I'm definitely looking forward to going again, both to cover the parts of the grounds that I didn't have time to see and to see the seasonal changes in the plants.

The property is 197 acres with a 55-acre arboretum. The house is a c.1940 Fridtjof Tobiessen Colonial Revival creation, that encompasses prior historic c.1830 and c.1750 structures. The estate has been open to the public since 2000, and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2001. Everett George Rodebaugh (b1902), a 1922 UPenn alum, founded a court-reporting service in Philadelphia that boosted him to national prominence. The Rodebaughs had no children and traveled the world, but unlike the heavy Euro influence adopted by the DuPont estates in nearby Brandywine Valley, Welkinweir has remained true to its plein air, Weyethesque look. I was recently at Stoneleigh, where I expected William Powell to walk out of the house with a smoking jacket and a G&T. Welkinweir felt more like Spencer Tracy's hunting spot, if he ever had one. Welkinweir is located on Prizer road, a picturesque street of swank multi-mil horse farms, with a winery (Stone Barn Cellars) at the Pottstown Pike end. You head up the drive and around a hairpin turn, you are upon the house, so much so, you might hit it! Drive past the house, and parking will appear. A patio leads you to an info center on the exterior wall, with an abundance of brochures. Use the trail map to walk yourself around the hiking options on the property. Yes, this is a hike, so dress in sneaks or boots and comfortable clothing. There are various trail options, but we did the simple loop around the huge pond, and then explored the grounds by the house, and Pinetum in front of the house. We did about 3mi on the pedometer. We'd have loved to stay longer, but with dogs and a baby in the cold, 3miles was a comfortable stopping point. You could easily make this an all-day hiking destination. They have a large picnic shelter, with a nearby firepit area for warmer weather. There are also port-a-potties near the picnic area. House tours are normally available only to groups when set up in advance, but if you call to request it, they can sometimes accommodate smaller parties. According to what I've read, the house contains a rare pipe organ, letters and private documents of the Rodebaughs, and the DL on when they got robbed of a $250k silver set by one of their own house guests! As indicated, dogs are allowed on the trails and in the arboretum. They do need to be leashed and cleaned up after, of course. I am so happy to have found Welkinweir! I am fortunate to have so many cultural resources at my fingertips, locally, but I wish Welkinweir were closer because it has such a great vibe, and has been so lovingly tended and well thought-out, with the amenities of a state park, in addition to the museum garden thing going on. Very very special place! * * * Note: at the time of this review, Welkinweir is not open on weekends. Weekdays only! * * * Note: They offer afterhours guided nature walks throughout the year (including winter).
