I can not bring myself to give this place the One Star it deserves. I have been in love with Longs Drugs all my life. I despise the corporation that bought them out and changed the name on the mainland. But out of respect for the Longs family and all the super cool former Longs employees, I couldn't possibly rate this store lower than three stars. At least in Hawaii they kept the Longs name. And some of the stores still have the old Longs layout, store fixtures and some Longs branded products. They carry a lot of Hawaiian products you won't see in the mainland version of the stores, like many varieties of Lion Coffee and a huge Crack Seed selection. That's pretty cool. If you have a half way decent buzz, you can lose yourself for a bit and get your Longs on, temporarily forgetting the ugly reality of who really owns the chain now. But then you get in a long ass line to pay for your purchase. Why is there only one check stand open? The line is eight people deep and you hear the clerk ask the customer she's waiting on if he has the customer loyalty card. When he says no, she offers to sign him up on the spot. Eight people waiting in line, and she's asking this guy for all his personal info, including email address. WTF?! Just like the mainland stores now. Woefully understaffed. Poorly trained employees. Mikey C says: I want my Longs Drugs back!

"Make Longs a Part of Your Day". Remember that jingle we'd hear on their commercial? For many us of who grew up in Hawaii, Longs Drugs was definitely a part of our day. Way before many of the the bigger, nationally known stores arrived, Longs was, and still is, our go to place. Founded in California in 1938, Longs made it's mark in Hawaii when they opened their first store in Honolulu in 1954. In 2008, CVS Health acquired Longs Drugs, and retained the name in Hawaii. Smart move to keep the name, because it's what we identify with. Today there are approximately 40 stores throughout the state, and although some things have changed a bit since the acquisition, I still find myself flipping through their yellow and red ads looking for bargains. I mean, how else would I know if the Spam is on sale? Right? Gotta have dat Spam, baby!

They're understaffed, like much of medical practice but remain prefessional and friendly

Their musubi is great for a 711. Actually one of my favs. I love pulling to the side of the road and getting hot fresh food for a pretty drive around Hawaii. They have so many options, I recommend getting a little of everything and having a little picnic somewhere. My fav 7/11!

The food you can buy from here is actually decent, especially the musubis. They have some hot foods at the front with options like rice plates, pasta, and manapuas. They also have cold options like sushi and sandwiches, or meals that can be reheated. The slushies are different here too, as they have Hawaiian flavors like butter mochi and pineapple, and even the coffee machine has a matcha latte option. We stocked up on food before heading to the airport, and it held up well for dinner on the way home... - Spam Katsu Musubi: Who doesn't love a good musubi? 7-11 is no exception to the rule, as the spam katsu musubi was a nice variation from the usual. It has a nice texture with the panko, and the rice was cooked just right too! - Spicy Shrimp Katsu Roll: My favorite thing from the 7-11... shrimp was tasty with the rice, and it had a nice kick to it. Honestly I could have 2 of these on the beach and call it a meal. - Ahi Poke Stuffed Inari: These were pretty cheap ($7) and honestly were at par (if not better) at some places in the Bay Area where I've paid $15. I love these inari that get stuffed with poke... in this case it was spicy poke, and like the musubis the rice was cooked well. - PB + J: Husband was amused by the pre-packaged sandwiches so we tried his fav combo. Honestly tastes better than some Smucker's Uncrustables. I imagine their other sandwiches would hold up in quality, and they had other interesting flavors. Beyond the ready to eat stuff. the snacks were also worth checking out. They have different ice creams and very different candy options... I ended up buying some as souvenirs to take home. Fun Fact: 7-11's in Hawaii are under the same management as the ones in Japan, so their product offerings are very different!

The inside is clean and organized very similarly to the ones we know in Cali. The Fresh Food section had a nice selection of Hawaiian foods. My kids also recognized some Japanese style sweet sandwiches. Butter Mochi and Haupia flavors were available at the Slurpee machine. At the counter, there were fresh Manapua and Pork Hash in a steamer. My kids picked out a couple items to try. The cashier was ok -- she processed our transactions and moved on to the next. When it gets busy, cars back up onto Kamehameha Highway. When they get a gasoline delivery it's a total clusterf*ck. Oh, and there was a young guy, like in his 20's, on a bicycle in the parking lot with a sign offering to sell one of his kidneys. It's not like you get a chance to buy a kidney every day, right? As I waited in line to pay for a bag of ice I wondered if there was any value in having a third kidney. I concluded it would just make me have to get up and pee even more frequently at night, so I decided to pass on the opportunity. Ice here comes in three sizes, starting with 7 lbs for three bucks and change. Mikey C says: one owner, low miles, make offer.
