Most importantly the staff and the owner are super cranky and legit angry. Even the dude manning the gate was a dick. They literally have security busting people for sampling apples. Want a hay ride? Gotta pay. If you want the public to pick Apples at least pretend to want them there. Can't wait to enjoy each $10 dollar Apple. Do yourself a favour and hit up a grocery store instead.

Stay away!!! Horrible, never again!!! I'd love to get my money back. I actually feel very stupid…read morefor paying $69 for 23 pounds of apples. A bigger bucket of almost 40 lb cost $25 at the farmers market in Mississauga!!! There's nothing to do at this stupid farm expect picking apples or pumpkin. No rides (even though there's a big sign for hay rides) So you pick your own apples then pay triple the price of the super market and 5-6 times the price of the farmers market. To be honest they're good apples but not at all better than the farmers market! Never again! Very badly run and will be out of business very soon for sure! P.s. The kids saw a dead rat (No big deal in a farm I guess) but they were so disgusted by it so they couldn't eat apples! Not that they were even allowed to eat any apples while picking! Where's the fun of picking apples if the kids can't even eat as they pick and there was more apples on the ground than on the trees!!! Visit on Saturday October 29 2016

Bittner Singer Orchards - Just right

We have been coming to Bittner Singer Orchards for several years now. Beautiful orchard across from…read morebeautiful Lake Ontario. The family has enjoyed picking cherries here, some of the best sweet, dark cherries ever. It was disappointing though to pull in and see so many signs - IN ALL CAPS - with rules. I'm not a farmer, and maybe they've had a theft problem, but to honest people like myself, it was a bit cringeworthy. AND there is an admission charge for anyone older than TWO. I deduced this fee came about because families with many children were arriving and perhaps the Orchard was losing money via eaten-not-paid-for cherries? The $5 will be credited against your produce picked. Then you have a wrist band attached to you that is cut off after your purchase. No backpacks. No diaper bags. No bare feet (ok that's fine). And more. It just took the wind out of my sails to be greeted by signage of rules and docked with an admission fee. The employees were cheerful and attentive. Clean pails and giant plastic bags to line the buckets were ready for our fruit to go in. A nice utility wagon helped with the haul. After, there was a hand washing station and sanitizer available. The dark cherries were truly delicious. Most found their way into several homemade pies.

Going to Singer Farms will be a summer tradition! I guess there's over thirty varieties!! You can…read moretaste them when picking because each variety was different. My favorite was aisle 46! Tart yet sweet.. Like an awesome natural sweet tart. We picked over 7lbs, which is easy to do with all the varieties. It's supposed to be $4/ lb 1-10 lbs and once you hit over the 10lb mark its $3/ lb. Best, tastiest cherries around and it's an experience for sure!! We stopped at the NY Beer project for a late lunch on the way home! Go Cherry picking at Singer Farms! DO ITTT!!!

I've been to the market multiple times, though I haven't checked out the farm side yet. The market…read moreitself is set up like a small boutique shop. They carry fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers, so prices can be a little higher since they're reselling, but the produce is always clean, colorful, and great quality. Beyond the basics, they also sell indoor and outdoor plants, unique brands you won't usually find at grocery stores, and specialty items like quail eggs, duck eggs, and a nice variety of cheeses. I even came across some vegetables I'd never tried before, like black kale, which was new to me. The staff are always super friendly and outgoing. I've visited a few times now and never had an issue with any of the products. For me, this market is an easy five stars.

Out of the 3 farms that I've visited recently, Rock Garden was probably my favourite, but that…read moredoesn't say much. This "farm" was more like a garden centre + a nice grocery store that sells primarily produce, a good share of baked goods, & some bottled items like preserves, maple syrup, jams, honey, etc. There was no "pick your own" strawberries. At least none that I saw anyway. What sorta leaves a sour taste in my mouth is that farms always promote this support, "Eat Local" mentality, but their prices seem on-par with Whole Foods: 3 tri-coloured bell peppers - $7+, a dozen free-range eggs - $4.50, a pint of strawberries - $6, a pint of peaches/nectarines - $5 (almost $1/ea), etc. I just had an egg this morning and it tasted like a regular, store bought egg. Nothing discerning about it. I also bought a 8" peach pie and wished that I had chosen another fruit. As I cut into the pie, I noticed that all the peach slices were all spread out, covering may 50% of the filling. The rest of it was clear, sweet, gelatin. My friend get a Saskatoon berry and the filling was more consistent. So if you're planning to get a pie, SKIP the peach! I thought that buying straight from the source would be cheaper/same prices at the grocery store, but BETTER quality, but I guess I was wrong.

**Review for their pick your own strawberry**…read more The price for 2018 is $6/kg, which I remembered it was $5/kg when I last went here for the 2016 strawberry season. They have a pretty large strawberry field for customers to pick from. You can either bring your own container to buy a basket from them, and they will weight your strawberries at the end to determine the cost. There is no time limit of how long you stay in the field to pick, and they have free parking on site. It appears that this year the yield was lower than usual, as the strawberries were mostly smaller than the ones I picked back in 2016. However, they still taste really good despite the smaller size. The strawberries go back fairly quickly, so you should eat them within a day or two after picking, or store them in the freezer to make smoothies. They also have other produce available for picking, which I think corn is coming up later in July. You can go on their website to see what's available and the prices. They also have a market on the other side of the street for customers to buy fresh produce from, much like a farmers market

There is also gelato and ice cream offerings. I got myself a strawberry sundae that hit the spot. I also picked up some ambrosia apples, an unique maple chipotle pepper seasoning, red pepper jelly, strawberry cream honey (!!) and a corn dip. The last thing I hesitated on until a customer said it was amazing. Sold! I bought a frozen one to survive a bit longer and I haven't tried it yet, but considering the enjoyment of everything else, I trust it will be good. My sister got some fresh corn on the cob and her whole family wished she brought home more. So if you're in the area, do yourself a favour and see what Herrie's has to offer.
