I agree with another reviewer- horrible summer camp! Last year, (2023) my 6-year-old granddaughter attended very briefly. We took her out after learning about an employee who went by Miss Liz who told her, when she was lying on her mat at nap time crying quietly because she missed her mom, " Stop crying! You better stop crying or else!" I'd like to give that woman "or else" if I ever see her. How dare this monster speak to a child in distress like that? My granddaughter is a gentle, small-for-her-age child who causes no trouble. This woman, who has NO business working with kids, also yanked an applesauce my granddaughter was eating at lunch away from her before she was finished and berated her for not finishing " fast enough." Shame on this organization for hiring people like this to supervise kids! read more

After being a member of 3-4 years, I had to make the decision to quit my membership because unfortunately the financial assistance the YMCA was offering me has decreased significantly & I cannot afford such a large increase on only a less than a $960/month SSI/Disability income. I've nerver paid more than $28-$31/month & now they want to increase it to almost $60/month! My SSI Cola increase didn't even go up $25/month but my rent up almost $100, not to mention everything else that increased in price. I was told that YMCA didn't get many donor's monetary donations this year since it's a non-profit, but neither did any of us poor to middle class people get any donations. You think they'd want to work w/members in order not to lose memberships, but for being greedy, this is what their fate is looking like. They lost my senior mothers Silver Sneaker membership too because she will not go without me. Thanks YMCA for helping/working with me in the past, but w/the cost of living so expensive this is just not affordable. This is a bitter sweet goodbye! I've had to make a tough decision on whats more vital; shelter,food, medical expenses, Mental Health as I suffer from Chronic PTSD, Anxiety, Major Depression, lots of physical issues since I lost my 3 year old son (my only child). This gym was helping me through a lot of this so that's why I'm so disappointed in how $$$ over helping a human with so much traumatic & physical damage matters so much more to them. I'd really love to speak w/the owner's or even donor's because I highly doubt that the previous membership of $30/month I've always paid would close this place down & they be affected affected to such a degree because they'd be helping/working with me be able to afford this. At least I'm willing to find strength & help to battle my Depression/mental/Physical health issues in a healthy way other than going down the bad road. I'm truly heartbroken with this non-profit organization. It's not a good look what this establishment is showing & doing to our community. If I could fully afford the membership, I'd even pay it forward & pay for someone else's membership who cannot afford it. But I cant even make ends meet now, much less w/this unfair increase. My wife and I have been going to this "Y" for a few years now and have found it to be a great place to workout and visit with friends old and new. If I had to mention one failing it would be the stationary exercise equipment does not have a planned service schedule causing some equipment not to function as it should. I had been going here for about a year. With a set monthly rate under contract. After a year they renewed my contract and doubled the price without informing me. I tried several times to get refunded for the money that was taken out of my account with out my knowledge when I went directly to their office they would only give me emails and phone numbers to call but ironically no one would return my calls and emails. I loved this gym but feel that they were sneaky and dishonest. I advise everyone to watch their bank account closely with this business. read more

I don't generally write reviews on Yelp, but I don't think the current overall rating is fair. It looks like there were a couple disgruntled members who wrote negative reviews 5-6 years ago and those are still pulling down the Y's overall rating. I love working out at the Y. It feels like home. The facility is very clean and the equipment is first rate. The staff takes the time to get to know you and are always available and helpful. It's one of the few places in Longmont with an indoor swimming pool. The workout classes are included in your membership dues, so you don't have to pay extra. It has a great childcare facility. It has a very active "silver sneakers" program for senior citizens. And, there are huge benefits for families with children through day camps, summer sleep-away camps, and sports leagues like basketball, soccer, and flag-football. The Y is much more than just a gym, it's a wonderful community center. Try it out! read more

The Y in Longmont has something for everyone. There are a lot of classes offered that cater to a variety of skill levels and activity interests. The weight center and cardio center have enough equipment for a lot of exercisers. The indoor track and pool are great places to work out as well and the racquetball courts enjoy a vibrant group of users. I don't know about the childcare side. read more

I was a member of a Y that I loved back home in SC, and when I moved to Longmont I was thrilled to find that there was one just around the corner from my house. Unfortunately, every time I walk out of there, I feel disappointed with my experience. There's a daycare center and an after school program at this Y, which I think is wonderful; HOWEVER, the teenagers who are in charge of watching the kids let them run around the gym where the adult classes are taking place. There are even some mothers who bring their kids to the Y and allow them to interrupt group classes, as well. Not a single Y employee will say anything to stop this behavior either! Because this Y really just seems to be an indoor playground for children and the poor variety of classes offered, I have decided to check out other gyms in the area. I wouldn't waste my time with this gym if I were you. read more

Unfortunately I have just had to cancel my membership, I actually love the YMCA love the programs and the values but unfortunately the staff are just impossible to work with. I spent 3 weeks leaving notes, emails and phone calls for multiple staff members trying to resolve small problems, No one ever returns calls or responds to any requests for help, when I did get someone to communicate I was promised fast action and told I would receive a call back within a day or so. In the end after leaving a phone call, message and email to a member for the branch executive over a week I was told I would be contacted by Monday at 11am, by 3 pm I had to choice but to cancel my family membership. This is somewhat harsh on the rest of my family but sometimes there is no choice since they have no understanding of social responsibility or customer service, read more

I can't stand the Y. Their pool seems to always be dirty and their equipment is older. What I really dislike is how rude the employees have always been to me. They seem to always be annoyed when someone walks in the door. I went here for about six months because it was near my house but I finally was fed up and now go to a gym across town-which Is cheaper and I like it more. read more

I have mixed feelings about being a member of the Y. I really enjoy some of their group exercise classes- Y Pump , Butts & Guts- the instructors are knowledgeable and give a good class. They usually have good availablility of cardio machines. If it's after school or evening hours, you have to know there will be kids running around. Sometimes, there are kids on the cardio machines, being silly or trying to exercise. Not only is it annoying, since they are taking a spot that an adult could have, but it's also dangerous! I had an experience last summer where I had to tell a girl (14-15 yrs old ) to get the child ( max 3) that she was babysitting for, off the treadmill. Completely ridiculous and there's enough staff to be able to monitor the cardio area, every hour or so. A few weeks ago, in a cardio kickboxing class, the kiddie camp kids ( 6-10 years old) came in to participate about 15 min into the class! It was clear the teenage camp leaders were the ones interested in going to kickboxing. One child had a lollipop while "kickboxing". I left since they were blocking the teacher and it was difficult to see what was going on. I asked at the front desk if this is a new thing... having the kids attend adult exercise classes. I explained that it seemed inappropriate to me since there are many other activities the kids can do at the Y. I got an apology, and the person said they are trying to expose the kids to more things. I got them to agree that the kids should be in the back of the room. Group exercise classes in the mornings are great! If you don't want to hear kids running around, etc, work out in the mornings. After 5:00, it looks like a day care facility with a gym. My husband & I pay $68 per month, with access to Boulder YMCA. I may have to try Boulder or remember to avoid the Longmont Y after 4:30-5. read more

We were members for years until recently. The Y management destroyed the full day preschool. They fired a great director and then all the wonderful teachers fled, leaving a gaping hole of competent, caring, qualified staff. As for the facilities and equipment, both are old. The membership is expensive. The Rec Center is cheaper and you get more for your money (outdoor pools, new equipment, better run facility) read more

I signed my son up for a week of summer camp. Since this was the first time my son was to attend camp at the Longmont YMCA, I needed to know when and were to drop him off, what activities he needed to come to camp prepared to participate in, and when and were to pick him up. I stopped by the front desk for information, and although the front desk staff was very polite, they had no information about the summer camps that were taking place in the building. I called multiple times to try and get information about the camp, but was always transferred to someone who never answered the phone. I left messages that were never returned. In the end I found other arrangements for my son as I didn't feel comfortable taking my son to summer camp at a facility that had such a lack of communication about the program. Unfortunately, I had already prepaid for the summer camp and was unable to get a refund. I would not recommend the Longmont YMCA summer camps. read more

My kids participated in a summer camp at the YMCA this year and here's my take: - kids were not closely supervised at all! - gates/doors are left open/unlocked - teachers/counselors of the day camp spent a lot of time yelling at kids when they could have used a more gentle approach - sports coach (who was good) only showed up for the first couple days of the week, the rest of the week it was only teenagers - I witnessed one day camp child (4-5 years old) escape from a wide open gate and wander around with a pair of scissors cutting up his shirt. - I witnessed a couple of children from the sports camps wander pretty far off from their group into a cluster of trees where they spent up to 30 minutes throwing sticks. There was at least one half-hearted attempt by a teenage counselor to get the kids back to the group, but it was unsuccessful. - in a 3 hour sports camp, I believe the sport was played for no more than 1 hour each day - other kids in the camp were rude/mean and teachers/counselors were not effective in managing that/making my kids feel safe - at the end of the week, my kids asked that they not do another Y camp. read more

I used to really, really believe in this place. My daughter took swimming lessons here back in 2011. Her first two instructors were wonderful. We had one instructor for well over 8 months, then they fired him with no explanation. After that we went through five different instructors over a three-month period. Then they changed the day of her class with no warning. We showed up and were told that classes were now on Tuesdays instead of Mondays. What? I was a member here for over five years. The location was convenient, it WAS well-maintained, the staff WAS friendly, but in the last year things really went down hill! The front desk staff is rude and sometimes ignores you (especially if you are NOT a Spanish-speaking member), the cardio equipment was constantly breaking, the TVs barely worked and when they did, the majority of the channels catered to the Spanish-speaking members (they used to have TLC, HGTV, etc.), more recently, all I could tune into were telenovelas and Univision. Nights at the Y became a noisy hangout for little kids and teens. Why parents didn't take advantage of Child Watch for the little ones was beyond me (BTW...Loved Child Watch. The staff was courteous, professional, and kind!)...instead kids were playing on ellipticals and treadmills. I complained several times to staff and no one did anything. Sadly, I cancelled my membership in July. I am know going to Planet Fitness for $10/month. Love the price,love the equipment (and TV channels), but miss the pool and Child Watch. I still want to believe in this place. I believe in their mission. I believe they want to succeed. But, they need to get it together. They need to be professional. They need to also accommodate their (full-price) paying members (like I was---@ $67/month). I'm willing to give this place another chance maybe in the future, but I want to hear that things are changing for the better... read more

The YMCA of Longmont is clean, friendly and a great place to work out. Lots of classes with a wide variety to offer all age groups.

This Y definitely has everything our family has been looking for in a gym. The best thing is that it is not snooty like other places I looked at, and has classes or equipment for all of us AND it's clean and affordable!!!! I recommend this Y and you get to go to 2 other Ys to boot along the north foothills!!! Longmont is my favorite and we are now members!! read more

The Y in Longmont is a clean, modern facility. The cardio and weight equipment is relatively new and kept in excellent condition. It has both machines and free weights. It has all of the basics covered. It does not have more trendy or advanced equipment like kettle bells or plyo platforms. I consider the Longmont Y one of the best places for a basic strength workout because there is good equipment in good repair and its clean. I would recommend it over the Longmont Rec Center because it has more equipment and is not as crowded. read more

I have attended the YMCA in Longmont and have worked out there since it opened. It's had some poor managers in the past but since the new manager took over the operation has improved significantly. Most of the reviews were written in the early 2000's when they were experiencing a management crisis. A lot of the poor reviews come from people who are irritated by the presence of children. It's a YMCA. It's a charity for children. If you don't want too see children go to a commercial facility. I enjoy seeing the children. It brightens my day. read more

I enrolled my 5-year-old son in beginning swim lessons at the Y, and was extremely disappointed. Although I made it clear up front that my son does NOT swim at all, the instructor left him sitting on the deep end side of the pool by himself twice within the first 1/2 hour lesson. After discussing this issue with the YMCA's director, I was assured that the instructor would be replaced. The Y upheld this promise less than two weeks - we showed up yesterday to find the original instructor teaching. Caution Parents: The review Janna V wrote in 2013 still applies. The kids are basically left to play on the very, very limited playground. The "music" camp consists of taping paper around little cups to make noise and asking the kids their favorite song. The majority of the day the kids are on their own, and not closely supervised. The gate to the property is open to all to come and go. No one stands at the gate to meet/greet. Aside from the safety issue, the program is miserable. There is no online or printed daily schedule for what goes on and the majority (as I watched from afar) reveals counselors talking to each other while the kids run amok. After asking exactly what the programs and themes are, I was told "they are free to play [without supervision] on the playground until 9:00 AM. Then they break into groups, have lunch, bathroom breaks inside and get together again in the afternoon." I asked 3-4 times for precise details of the programs and got the same thing over and over. Needless to say my granddaughter left after 3 days. After signing on at another local camp, several children who had previously used the Y camp and their parents told of similar horror stories. After having 4 grandchildren in accountable and well-organized camps, I feel like this camp should be reported to the authorities for health and safety reasons! Not to mention the fact you are spending your money to hire a few young students who have had absolutely no guidance on structuring camp programs. read more
