We were here to go to the aquarium and take a harbor cruise and decided to walk around a bit to check out the area. This wharf is filled with history and it has a lot of fun things to do and see. If you like taking walks the harbor walk is very scenic, even if you see the airport in full view. There are a few places to eat and drink so if you get hungry there's stuff for you. Quite a few boats leave from this area, including ferries to the multiple islands in the harbor. All in all, this could be a quick visit, but it's a nice one even if it's quick. read more

It was great to walk the ward after Mother's Day lunch. Be careful as many of the wooden boards are warped and not smooth to walk on for those with mobility issues. You can look into the aquarium seal area from the wharf. read more

What a great spot to take in the harbor views! It was a little grey and rainy while I was in Boston, but it didn't change how wonderful the view was. The pier was clean and had plenty of seating, as well as a handful of restaurants with what I would assume have great waterfront views. Can't wait to come back and explore on my next visit. read more

Very pretty spot along the Boston Harbor to take in the water and the boats and the sights and sounds of Boston. My hotel was close by so I really felt that I got myself treated to something that few people are able to say. It is right near the Aquarium and the North End, as well as two markets, Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall (both of which I found to be quite overrated - the Reading Terminal in Philadelphia blows both of these out of the water). But the low humming of planes flying nearby out of Logan removes the tranquility of the area. That is okay. Planes are good too. If you come here in the colder months, dress warm. You will not be sorry. read more

After months of snow and cold, Spring arrived in Boston. And that was a little better but just meant that it's a little warmer and raining. This week, the rains briefly stopped and I finally got a chance to enjoy the city. One spot was the lovely Long Wharf, which is near Boston's North End and the Aquarium station on the T. As the name says, it is a long wharf that extends from Atlantic Avenue and juts out into Boston Harbor. It's a super way to get close to the water and yet be on very solid ground. The ferries leave from both sides of the wharf and there is a marina here. Not far away is the Columbus playground. So if you're thinking that you've found a spot to enjoy some sun and some sea and some fun, you're right. There are restaurants, bars and even a small ice cream shop here. Bring the kiddies. read more

Speaking of long (pulls down pants). A long time ago, I ran away from home (Oxford, England). I was 16. I met a girl on the internet in Maine, and flew to NYC one summer night to come and visit her. I took a Midnight bus to Boston, and arrived in the wee hours. I wandered from the Greyhound at South Station, at 4am through the streets of Boston, all along Summer, past the sounds of the Big Dig deep beneath me, to the water. I found myself at Long Wharf. Then I laid down in the warm Massachusetts summer night, and fell asleep on the concrete. I remember Boston being such a safe and peaceful and welcoming city. It was then, it still is. My first ever morning in America was here. I woke up with the sun beating down on me at 9 or 10 in the morning. I was home. I've lived in America ever since, with a few stints back in England for various reasons. Long Wharf is still a very sacred place to me, but I recommend everyone visit it for tourism and aesthetic reasons. It's the heart of Boston, in some ways. You can see the cars streaming over the Tobin Bridge. The ferries coming and going from Cape Cod, Nantucket and the Vineyard. The planes taking off and landing across the water at Logan. And the skyline of Boston looking down at you, smiling. I've actually driven my car all the way out onto Long Wharf before. A few times. You wouldn't want to do that anymore. Trust me. We visited the Long Warf a few times during our stay to just sit out and watch the water as a calming experience. I wish I could start out every day this way. Weather you want to grab a snack from one of the snack stands and eat at the edge of the water or enjoy a high quality meal at Sel De La Terre or Charthouse you will not be disappointed. You have restaurants, hotels, boat tour options, the aquarium, and you are also withing a very close proximity to the North End and Fanueil. Grab a loved one and come sit along the water at the edge of the pier. It gives you the chance to get away from the harshness of the city to give yourself that moment of peace that you so often long for throughout the day. Living in Las Vegas is great and all. However, sometimes I miss the sea that I grew up with off Long Island, NY. A few hours after checking into the Beacon Hill Wyndham, I was reunited with the sea. In the famous words of the band named after Boston, it was "more than a feeling." The Long Wharf where the City of Boston merges with Boston Harbor is a short walk through the skyscraper Canyon of State Street from Faneuil Hall and the Boston Freedom Trail. An interesting fact is that years ago going back to the 1700s before infill extended the city, the skyscraper canyon of State Street that I walked on was the Long Wharf and the skyscrapers were the sea. Another interesting fact that the Long wharf built in 1710 is supposedly the oldest operating Wharf in the country (Source: Wikipedia). I wasn't the only one being reunited with the sea. In the 1950s in the name of so called progress the elevated Central Artery (I-93/US 1) was the great Wall that separated the downtown business district from the Waterfront. In the early 2000s the Big Dig put the expressway underground and the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway in its place. This is important to bring up because the Greenway has created a far better first impression of the harbor instead of entering from under an underground expressway. From my perspective the Long Wharf also plays the role of a spur walking path off the Greenway that also leads to the Boston Freedom Trail. The Long Wharf is a relatively short Wharf. It reminds me of an uncommercialized and truncated Chicago Navy Pier being that both bestow the City with a walkway elevated above the water concluding at an esplanade with prime views of the water and skyline. Both have sufficient benches to be in the moment with the scenery. The sea bound Long Wharf (eastbound) starts off near the Greenway. At the edge of Boston, boats dock in the tide of the New England Aquarium. The south facing side of the Long Wharf provides a first rate vista of the aquarium interspersed with boats. Private and public boats share this part of the harbor. The Long Wharf is the port of call to ferry public water transit to Logan International Airport, Charlestown, Harbor Islands, Quincy, and other destinations. It is also the port of call for cruise boats. The north facing side provides a vista of the adjacent Marriott hotel followed by the Old Custom House historic landmark. Along the way there is a gift shop and bar. The Long Wharf concludes at an esplanade at the harbor. My dearest moments of the Long Wharf were sitting on the esplanade by the American flag while day transitioned to night as the sun went down over Boston Harbor. Spending time in the moments admiring the 360 panorama was again in the words of the famous Boston song, "more than a feeling!" Setting my eyes to the east I saw sporadic sale boats and water craft in the wide expanse of water reaching Logan International Airport. Below was water and above was a changing sky. Up in the sky I saw planes taking off and landing at the airport. Looking south I saw the calm water reaching towards the Southeast Institute of Contemporary Art. Facing southwest I had the feeling that the narrowing water in the distance was near where the Boston Tea Party occurred. Turning toward the west I took in the Boston bound boats and New England Aquarium. Facing west in front of me was Long Wharf headed toward an award winning vista of the Custom House Tower sharing the Boston skyline. At night time, the city lights brought the skyline to life. Finally looking north I'd take in the width of the esplanade with Boston Harbor. This 360 panoramic picture is worth 5,000 words. Unfortunately I am going to reach my allowed word limit. So, I will conclude by saying that the Long Wharf is a prime spot in Boston to spend time where the city meets the sea. read more

Great area to walk around and see some Boston Wharf, full of history, tourist, and locals. This area emcompasses the aquarium, the boat tours and crusies, Legal Seafoods, and lots of other to-do boston things. It's about half a mile from Quincy and South Market, and worth the walk. read more

Upon waking at 6am on a vacation Sunday, you are at first annoyed . . . you should be SLEEPING! However, after spying a faint grey light slipping through the curtains, you go take a peek at the harbor. Sweet glory of morning, it's sunrise! When's the last time you woke up for that (as opposed to simply staying out and awake long enough for it)? So you do the obvious next thing: rush to dress, scramble out of the hotel and down to the Long Wharf to welcome the day. Whereas, yesterday afternoon it was packed with people snacking, taking selfies, boating and waiting in various touristy lines, today, at this hour, all is calm. A couple of lone locals are here watching the first rays gleam across the white sails of boats already dotting the water. You join them on the ample concrete sitting areas, resting and watching and listening. There are some things more relaxing and rejuvenating than sleep. For me, they often involve nature and beauty. Sometimes when starting vacation, your clock gets wonky and you wake and sleep at odd hours. Sometimes you winge and wine about this. Sometimes you take advantage. The Long Wharf is waiting for you to take advantage. read more

Touristy spot, but there is a lot to take in around this area. The aquarium is here, along with various boat/ferry docks, restaurants, etc. There is a T stop (blue line) located right at the street. It is also a quick walk across the street to the Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market Place. There was an Ahts (Arts) festival going on, a rose garden to walk around, and countless vendors. read more
