We knew we were going to be in the area around the time of WaterFire so we made sure to find a…read moreplace to stay and spend the night here. We had never been to anything like this or even really heard that much about it so we were interested to see what it was. WaterFire started about 30 years ago as an art installation that was meant to bring more people to the area and it definitely works. They light the braziers along the rivers, pipe beautiful music through the air and have volunteers on boats going from spot to spot, tending the flames and refilling the wood. There are tons of people there. Just walking and enjoying being outside and being together. The vibe is so relaxed and so peaceful but yet busy and exciting at the same time. It's kind of hard to describe unless you see it for yourself. We headed out around dusk when there was still light in the sky and it was a little chilly but I soon forgot about that. Words can't really express how you're just sort of drawn into the piece and beauty of this whole thing. I feel like this review can't even do it justice. We walked around for over an hour but our dog did start to get cold even though we had her in her jacket, so we headed back to where we were staying for a little while. Once it was dark and we were all warmed up, we headed out again because it was just so enjoyable to be there that we really wanted to come back. The second time we wandered through the street fair area and looked at some of the tables and street vendors. I got a really cool ring that was made out of a an old ornate spoon. There were also food vendors but everything was pretty busy so we ended up getting food on the way back to our hotel. There were families and groups of friends and couples, all just soaking in the magic and ambiance and ultimately we drifted back towards the water again because that is where the real magic is. We sat for a long time watching people float by in gondolas and watching the volunteers slowly push the boats through the canals, adding wood to the flames causing them to rise up. Everyone was friendly and in a good mood and strangers were chatting with each other. There was a real sense of community and peace. This was honestly one of the most romantic evenings I've had with my husband in a long time as well. We nuzzled noses and shared a few kisses to the music and the flame. If you are anywhere near Providence during WaterFire, don't even think about it just go. It's totally free! You don't need tickets or even to plan really. You can just enjoy the fire light and the music and being together in a beautiful place. It's absolutely unforgettable.

One of the Chinese dragon boats from the Pawtucket Dragon Races made an appearance as well. The event was very well attended, with many areas of the Riverwalk at capacity during peak times. Foot traffic jams made it difficult to navigate freely around the basin area. Lots of vendors and food trucks located around the RISD campus gave the event an even more festive flair. A great way to bring downtown Providence alive !

I highly recommend Providence Guitar Academy!!! Phil has the…read morerare talent of staying calm and patient while making the learning experience fun. It is obvious that he really enjoys teaching. Where do I start describing such a wonderful, amazing teacher! First of all, Phil is indeed an…read moreextremely gifted musician in his own right, and has a very deep knowledge of technique and music theory. You can tell that he has a true passion for music and his 10+ years of experience definitely show in much of his sage wisdom that comes across in the lessons. For a total beginner in guitar and music like myself, showing up to this talented fellow as a grown adult with my cheap acoustic and telling him that I just wanted to be able to strum along to Bob Marley or the Beatles could have been intimidating. Instead I felt that Phil was delighted to teach me and he calmly encouraged me at every step from then on. He first made a special effort to understand my background, the types of music I like, the parts of learning music that interest me, and the amount of time I could commit. Then he came up with an individualized, structured plan for me to reach my goals, which also changed as my whims and interests changed as months went on. I began taking one 30-minute lesson each week, which might not seem like much; yet Phil is such a professional that not a minute is wasted, and by the end of each lesson I had tons of exercises to practice and things to think about every day for the 6 days until my next lesson. I felt I made very fast progress under Phil, thanks to his incredible teaching technique. As time went on I was so happy with the lessons that I increased to two 30-minute lessons per week. My progress became even faster and more intense. Phil effortlessly helped me switch between learning chords and guitar technique and the somewhat separate subject matter of reading music and understanding music theory. He helped me play songs while also helping me understand the underlying patterns and connections that many songs are based off of. Had I not unfortunately moved away from Providence, I think Phil would have turned me not only into a good guitar player, but also a well-rounded musician! I would like to be very clear, his lessons are a steal at the price he offers them at. The teaching is first class and Phil is a great human being, and obtaining beautiful abilities like playing the guitar and understanding music might change your life like they did mine.

It's a beautiful old historic home that was transitioned into a nonprofit music venue featuring intimate community based performances. The space seats 100 people at most, and you are surrounded with somewhat stern portraits of the family that used to own the home as well as incredible pieces of artwork and a magnificent chandelier hanging above the Steinway piano. I went to hear a friend play several pieces with a violinist and the acoustics are just perfect. There is only one bathroom and it is difficult getting in the front door if you don't have great mobility, and the parking is difficult on a steep and winding hill. But once you get into the space it's a beautiful experience.

I chatted on the phone with Elena to schedule a time for one of their tuners to come by my apartment. She was very helpful & pleasant, finding a time that worked for both of us. She followed up twice before the appointment - once to confirm, & another time to clarify on the parking situation after the big snow storm. Mike, the tuner, arrived exactly on time. He saw my spinet piano & let out a big sigh, informing me that this may be more difficult than we anticipated. We discussed my goals - I was hoping to return to standard tuning. He got to work on my stubborn, old piano, doing his very best to gentle tweak it back to normal. He did a wonderful job, considering the state of my piano. He honestly reported to me that he couldn't get to fine-tuning it yet, so he didn't charge me full price. I was so grateful for his effort & honesty. I will definitely be returning to Avery for all my piano needs, whether coordinating another tune with Mike or purchasing a new piano.

Scott is not only a great guitar player himself, but an incredibly gifted teacher. He really takes…read morethe effort to find out how to best help each individual student learn. I came to him as a casual player who wanted to improve my rock/blues playing. He quickly noticed what parts of my playing were holding me back, and showed me how to improve in those areas. Before taking lessons, I had learned a lot from Youtube and some college friends. I still think Youtube is a great tool, but nothing compares to having a good teacher in front of you. He came up with a personalized plan to help me improve my chops, as well as add to my guitar vocabulary. At the same time, he easily adapted by changing the day's lesson if I had something specific in mind. His lessons added much more structure to my practicing that I didn't have beforehand, which helped to improve my playing in many ways. Also, thanks to his lessons, I was confident when I played a short acoustic piece at my sister's wedding this summer. Scott has knowledge of many different aspects of guitar playing, so as I thought of different things I wanted to learn (from finger picking to pinch harmonics to setting up my guitar) he was always able to teach me. He's also a very informed gear-head. So as I was looking for a new electric guitar, and a couple of pedals, he had many good suggestions for me. I had taken lessons from someone else before finding Guitar Strength, and I can definitely say the difference was huge. Scott is clearly passionate about all things guitar, and he really enjoys helping others learn. Also, some of my favorite bands were recommended to me by him. I am in my mid-twenties, but I know Scott has students of all ages. I saw many younger students who had lessons before mine who were clearly enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend Guitar Strength to anyone who is serious about improving themselves as a guitar (or bass) player, and as a musician in general. Whether you're a complete beginner, or have been playing in a band for years, a good teacher can help bring you to the next level.

Scott is the man! Fixed my 335 back to its glory. Has a full professional studio and everything.read more

Parents, grandparents, nannies and babysitters join the children during the class, which is incredibly fun filled and well paced. Jen often offers one class a week for babies 9 look months and younger, which is a great way for new parents to meet one another. We have gone to several sessions of East Side Music Together, and I couldn't rave more about the class if I tried! Jen is an engaging and kind teacher. Her classes are done at a fun pace, she sings with the children, let's them play age appropriate instruments, and also incorporates movement in some of the activities. Included in the fee is a music book and two cds with all of the songs that are covered in the class. This way to you and your child can have a new repertoire of songs to listen to at home or in the car. One of the greatest parts about music together is that the sessions cycle through 9 different lessons. That means if you do the winter session and decide to do the eary spring session - that the spring session will be all new music! The music is age appropriate, and great for new parents who want to know some new songs to sing to their little ones rather than just your average "twinkle twinkle little star." My son's face lit up each time we went to a class, and I can't wait to start taking him with his baby sister later this year.

Customer service and personal interaction between staff and customer is definitely something that impacts patronizing the business. I really liked the previous staff l but the current staff is very friendly and very nice. I find the management to be a little bit rough and a little bit unapproachable and act entitled. I'm not sure why they can't keep staff, but I think that maybe the management is part of the reason. I've purchased a lot of different product from glass pipes, sex toys, detox products, insence and kratom over the years (just a quick plug-in that The Point is my place and I've been going there for like 15 years and I get my tattoos at Providence Tatoos.) I've been a customer since 2018 and I'm not sure what the deal is, but I hope that the current staff stays on and is consistent because the previous staff and the previous manager were awesome. I'm not sure what happened but I became very friendly with them and they were very nice and super knowledgeable and helpful. I came in so much that we became friendly, talking about our plans we had and what we've been up to and things that you would just chit chat with people that you become friendly with. The current staff is awesome, I just wish that they would stay and there wouldn't be so much turnover.
