The view was excellent and when the wind blew up the waitresses pulled the plastic blinds down . Even with the inclement weather it was still pleasant to sit there. However, the food was a disappointment. The two steaks we ordered was one to be medium and the other medium rare. The waitress had no idea which was which. We were confused too as the two steaks were very well done and nearly well done. The mussels dish was very salty and there were no mussels still attached to the shells. As for the coffee, it took two visits back to the till to remind them of our order. It was a popular place but I wouldn't go back unless I knew what few dishes they may do well. There is paid parking in the street. read more
Great course, especially for overseas visitors. Unrelenting links style with some very challenging holes and astonishing views. I have never been challenged to get on but that is usually a weekday. New proshop is good and the food at the clubhouse always welcome with a coldie after a round. A bugger on a windy day - needed guy-ropes and pitons to play last time, was concerned I would get blown to Newcastle.... Will challenge the best golfer, let alone me!! read more

Impress visiting golfers with a round at Long Reef. It may not be the world's most perfect links course, but its spectacular location will keep them diverted from any possible lumps and bumps on the greens. Eighteen holes are spread out across the protruding Long Reef headland, with little or no protection. It's extremely exposed - think refreshing breezes in summer and a biting chill in winter, or more notably a darned nuisance year-round, with blusts and gusts to alter the course of all but the most-perfectly struck golf ball. Even those that hit the fairway are liable to roll off sideways on sloped fairways, and threaten to disappear completely in the tame-looking rough. But challenges aside, this is truly fun golf. Lovely links. Just take plenty of balls, and don't anticipate a drop in your handicap. Two little niceties with noting: a handy coffee cart installed at the ninth tee (though the coffee was pretty ordinary) and a clubhouse restaurant offering the 'best fish and chips on the beaches'. Judging by the crowd, it's not only the chef that thinks so. read more
The Reef is a fantastic course. Re jigged a few years ago with help from "5 times" it remains the best public course in Sydney. There is only one problem with the Reef - getting on. My mate Twiggy is a 4 - 5 marker who sometimes plays elsewhere but only rarely. He loves the Reef, reckons that his ashes will be scattered on the 17th where he will then be blown OB. He can get on when ever he wants and can sometimes be prevailed upon to put me on the sheet on visitors days. Otherwise its a queue that starts at about 5.30 in the morning. Pure links golf, in amazing condition considering the traffic it gets. Into a Nor Easter theres a par three that needs driver to get any where near the green. Into a southerly batten down the hatches on 16 and 17. Truly spectacular vistas from the headland and enjoyable from start to finish. Best thing of all - no bloody trees! Clubhouse sits on the beach with sensational views. Nearly always setting up for a wedding, its a perfect spot for a beer after a round - as long as you weren't one of those who hit off at 6. read more

A great location spoilt by rude, hopeless staff. After being ignored we managed to book a table. When we came back no table had been reserved for us. They couldn't care less. read more

History
Established in 1921.
The Club's history dates from the period immediately after World War One. At that time, those wishing to play golf in the northern beaches area could do so only at Manly - there was no other course. In the 19th Century, the Long Reef headland was used for light farming. It was owned by the Salvation Army until 1912 when it became Crown Land administered by Warringah Shire Council. For some years it was a popular camping ground. The golf club was started in 1921 as a 9 hole layout. Because the lower part of the headland was swamp the golf holes were confined to the upper ground. By today's standards the course was a bit primitive. Grazing cattle constituted an early problem and wire fences were erected around the greens. The swamp was drained and filled in the late'20′s and the course was extended to a full 18 holes in 1931. During the first 70 years, there were many very wet periods during which the lower holes (where the swamp had been) became flooded. In 1990 action was taken to co
