The library itself is all self-service based as you checkout your books using your digital library card and pick up the held books at the entrance which is placed based on alphabetical order of the first letter of your last name. Great collection of books for kids and adults. The only thing l wished they had more toys for kids in the play room, I find that some toys are missing some pieces and not well maintained but otherwise a great place to get your kids to spend some time with books.

I was surprised since the library in Houston all close at 6:00PM. Library is a place where we can being indoor with the AC and a restroom to use if need to. There are plenty of parking space here and there are some steps to go up to the main door and there is a ramp near the handicap parking space. My only complain is there is not enough tree planted area here for some shaded parking space. The first floor is the kids section. and downstairs is the adult section, they have stairs and elevators. There are pretty of chairs and table. There is a puzzle table where anyone can work on the puzzle and that was where we spend our time there. The staff here are very friendly by helping me to pronounce the name of the library was named after properly.

It always seems loud in here so I wouldn't advise trying to get anything done where you need it to be quiet. I like that they have a drive-up book return too -- very convenient. This library does not participate with the Libby app -- not at the time of this writing -- so if you reserve an ebook, you'll need to download the app they do work with. They FINALLY got more parking added here -- it's been so tough to find parking but there's a long new section of spaces now.

There is plenty of seating on both levels. There is a vending machine and seats to eat your snacks. Plenty of restrooms. It's two levels and very organized. They have books for sale at great prices. They have desktop computers or laptops to use. They have scanners and copy machines. I had a great time wondering around. I did my own tour and signed myself up for a library card. It's been ages since I have been to a library to really use it. It's a refreshing change to get away from my house and work. They have rooms you can book to use. This is great for extra quietness. The concept is open and spacious with a variety of different styles of chairs. It's cozy and comfortable and very inviting. I will be very SOON! Plus there is plenty of parking.

It's a clean environment overall and lots of books. There are some open areas that can be quite chatty so I would recommend being in a study room if you need to study. The women at the front desks were so nice if you have any questions though. I attended the "Pumpkin with Pizzaz" event at the Smith Public Library. It was such a well organized free event (everything was provided). I had a good time putting together and designing my little fall pumpkin. The Rowlett Library is just that - an inviting place where everyone is welcome and all the staff is over the top nice! My daughter and granddaughter got their first library car le there, and my granddaughter immediately found wonderful books to check out. Its well designed, and I loved the books they had on the top of the displays for the children to see. My granddaughter was so excited when she saw them. The other thing I really like about this Library is... it's very engaged with the community. Over the summer, they had activities every day for the kids. That speaks volumes in my book!

Richardson residents are so lucky to have such a wonderful resource - and it's free!!…read more I've been a card carrying member for decades! When my boys were young, they enjoyed the Young Author workshops. They were able to make a hard covered book and illustrate it too. In fact, a few years ago the library was downsizing their homemade collection and they even got in touch with me to see if we'd like his book! How wonderful that now my son can share a book he made when he was in the 6th grade with his children! How kind that they took the time and effort to track down the original authors some 30 years later! When I was taking care of my grandchildren before they started elementary school, I would bring them to Wiggle Worms and we enjoyed many of the programs they offered. I have also enjoyed many of the Richardson Reads One Book programs over the years. It was fun to see some of the autographed posters of the authors advertising their RROB hanging in the temporary library space. At the events, I enjoyed hearing directly from the author their "behind the scenes" info about their book. All of the librarians I have ever come in contact with have always been so pleasant and helpful. On a recent trip, I was asking a librarian for a book suggestion. I had just finished reading "Theo of Golden" by Allen Levi and was looking for a book that was similar to it. It ended up being one of my all time favorite books and I was sad when I finished reading it because I loved it so much. The librarian kindly recommended three books to me and I checked out two of them on the spot. As I was leaving her desk, I discovered a seed library that was housed in an up-cycled wooden card catalog cabinet. You have to be a certain age to know what a card catalog is! Ha! So cool!!! I'm so excited that they will soon be re-locating back to the original library location at Arapaho & US 75/Central expressway. This temporary location will close October 11 and then they will start the huge task of moving everything back over to the newly remodeled space. A solid 5 stars for the Richardson Public Library!!!!! Readers are Leaders!
