The library itself is all self-service based as you checkout your books using your digital library card and pick up the held books at the entrance which is placed based on alphabetical order of the first letter of your last name. Great collection of books for kids and adults. The only thing l wished they had more toys for kids in the play room, I find that some toys are missing some pieces and not well maintained but otherwise a great place to get your kids to spend some time with books.

I was surprised since the library in Houston all close at 6:00PM. Library is a place where we can being indoor with the AC and a restroom to use if need to. There are plenty of parking space here and there are some steps to go up to the main door and there is a ramp near the handicap parking space. My only complain is there is not enough tree planted area here for some shaded parking space. The first floor is the kids section. and downstairs is the adult section, they have stairs and elevators. There are pretty of chairs and table. There is a puzzle table where anyone can work on the puzzle and that was where we spend our time there. The staff here are very friendly by helping me to pronounce the name of the library was named after properly.

I give them back the books I've read so they can be sold to others. I can't afford the prices of new books, so I wait until they are used and buy them.

It always seems loud in here so I wouldn't advise trying to get anything done where you need it to be quiet. I like that they have a drive-up book return too -- very convenient. This library does not participate with the Libby app -- not at the time of this writing -- so if you reserve an ebook, you'll need to download the app they do work with. They FINALLY got more parking added here -- it's been so tough to find parking but there's a long new section of spaces now.

The one thing I loved about the library is a cute gardening section right next to the staircase (as of 4/24/26). There's a lot of cute gardening books and even a seed donation box. It's a clean environment overall and lots of books. There are some open areas that can be quite chatty so I would recommend being in a study room if you need to study. The women at the front desks were so nice if you have any questions though. I attended the "Pumpkin with Pizzaz" event at the Smith Public Library. It was such a well organized free event (everything was provided). I had a good time putting together and designing my little fall pumpkin. The Rowlett Library is just that - an inviting place where everyone is welcome and all the staff is over the top nice! My daughter and granddaughter got their first library car le there, and my granddaughter immediately found wonderful books to check out. Its well designed, and I loved the books they had on the top of the displays for the children to see. My granddaughter was so excited when she saw them. The other thing I really like about this Library is... it's very engaged with the community. Over the summer, they had activities every day for the kids. That speaks volumes in my book!

The children's book area has plenty of books, but there's a lack of imagination and creativity. Again, I'm just not inspired to want to walk around and engage with the books. It feels too sterile. The Richardson Public Library has been a staple in my life almost all of my life. I remember…read morecoming to here to research papers I was writing all the way back to my young school days. While the library is all the things a library should be and you would think it would be, the Richardson Public Library is SO much more... For example this past weekend they held "Eggstravaganza" which was essentially fun, games, and of course, an Easter egg hunt, for the kids. They also hold Mah Jongg lessons and host a Mah Jongg League, host computer classes, AI lessons, teach Excel, host job clinics, as well as several other events (check out my photo of the current and upcoming events calendar). These activities have been a great way for me to not only support them, but also re-connect with the community. The library is SO good in fact, last week they won the Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. Wgat's more is that this is their 20th year in a row of winning this honor...Congratulations Richardson Public Library and thank you to all the staff and volunteers for doing what you all do!!!
