Really run down and sketchy. Stay at Fort Walmart before stopping here (and we have never stayed in a Walmart parking lot). Two stars! One for very friendly staff, and the second for convenient location. I for sure would not choose to pay to stay here ever again. The tent campsites are right on top of each other. Our picnic table was right next to our neighbor site's picnic table; you can share a meal with your stranger neighbor if you wish. The stall doors in the bathroom are comically short; they were cut to about knee height when sitting on the toilet so that your junk is at risk of exposure while you're sitting on the toilet. The campground is also RIGHT off the highway so you go to sleep to loud traffic noise and wake up to it, too. It also backs right up to a residential area, so you can look at the back of folks' houses and hear their dogs bark through night. There were roosters to wake you up in the morning, too (ngl I kinda liked that part). My husband and I are avid hikers and campers, so we've seen a lot of campgrounds. This is my least favorite, right after one of the KAOs in Virginia. During our stay, I playfully dubbed this place "the trailer park of campgrounds," and before you come after me, I grew up in a trailer park (so I would know!). If you need a convenient place to stay, it will do. It's a place to sleep. But if you're wanting privacy, space, and quiet (you know, the things people go tent camping for), then you'll want to go elsewhere. read more

The staff at this campground was friendly and welcoming and there were many amenities. The location was convenient and there were many families enjoying the pool and fishing pond. However, we found many of the amenities (showers, bathrooms, playground, laundry, lounge) to be outdated and in need of an update. The most egregious was that twice I found broken planks with sharp screws sticking out on the playground when I was playing with my son. I did bring the issue to the attention of the staff and they removed the boards, but it really felt like it was time for a new playground. We had hoped to use the spray ground at the pool with our son, but it was never turned on during our stay. The other major drawback was that there was a considerable amount of garbage in our site that we needed to pick up when we arrived. Many families seemed to be enjoying the grounds but we would not stay again. read more

Had a beautiful time here! I stated in the tent campgrounds, they were quiet, spacious, and had both a picnic table and a fire pit (which is a lot more than I'm used to)! A pond for fishing with rainbow trout, tons of places for little ones to play and quiet hours that are strictly enforced so everyone can get a good night's sleep. Management is super friendly and patient, and the gift shop has items made from local artists, alongside any amenities you may have forgotten to pack (I forgot my cutlery and they had a reusable compostable fork/spoon/knife kit that was perfect). On-site laundry, showers, and even an arcade. I would very highly recommend! read more

Tented there one night. Price was high at $41.00 but a beautiful area and nice nearby restaurant/shopping area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Mellow Bernese mountain dog for your petting and photographing pleasure in the lobby. Other campers were nearby but quiet. Finding it was a bit of a challenge without VERY specific directions. Like I litterally threw up because of how many bug's there where when I was trying to whipe our stuff off before putting it away. I really wanted to like this spot.... and I might try it again once Covid is over... It's hard to find, they need a sign on the roadside. During Covid staff do not wear masks and do not enforce mask wearing. There is also a current fire ban due to the bad fire conditions, and they are allowing campers to still have fires. Showers are cramped. Very dog friendly, very kid friendly. My kids loved the splash pad. Sites are level and easy pull through. Lots of trees for plenty of shade. Each spot has electricity and water, I thought the price was a good deal compared to other family camp parks like Jellystone. read more

My boyfriend and I tent camped here for 3 nights, 1 of which was the 4th of July and we couldn't have had a better time here. Jessica is so kind and shared her recommendations for great local hikes. We checked out the spots she mentioned and they did not disappoint! The staff here are very much on top of cleaning, which made me feel comfortable staying here and using the amenities they offer. I saw regular sanitizing of surfaces as well as consistent mopping throughout the day in addition to posted signs encouraging people to wash hands and social distance. Loved seeing the care and consideration that went into this place, it has the most pleasantly nostalgic vibe and we can't wait to come back here on our next trip to the springs! read more

Great for families with kids! They have great little cabins (electricity but no plumbing) and campsites. The whole place is clean and well arranged. Here are the pros and some cons (or things to be aware of): The pool is wonderful. It's heated to over 80 degrees and is big enough for a lot of people to swim but not too big where you lose sight of your kids. The splash pad (kind of like a synchronized fountain for kids to play on) was WONDERFUL for our one year old son to play in without danger. Even the older kids liked it. The little store has souvenirs and camping essentials. They serve a great all you care to eat pancake and sausage breakfast (coffee and OJ to drink) for $5 pp. The showers were free, warm, and (mostly) clean. Obviously they can't clean them between each guest (and some people must've been pretty filthy). No big deal, just keep your flip flops on! We stayed in a cabin. They seemed pretty new and, while smallish, we're perfect for the 5 of us (2 middle school age and one 1 year old, my wife and I). One word of advice, bring a camping pad or egg crate mattress, the mattresses (like a thick pad) were thinking. And you have to bring your own bedding. We brought sleeping bags and pillows and were fine. They have a pond stocked with trout ($7 each catch, no catch and release) and will rent fishing equipment. It's a little expensive, but the kids LOVED it! They both caught 2 and were ecstatic. The owners/operators were friendly and helpful. It's a family business. They have a dish sink behind the office, an arcade with circa 1980s games and pinball machines. There is a small playground also. It's just off a relatively busy road but the view of the mountains were beautiful. It's close to Manitou Springs and Pikes Peak and a short drive to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Seven Falls, and several other attractions. I really liked this place and we had a great time! read more

Love this campground. I come here just to fish when I visit family in Colorado Springs. Great stocked trout pond that you will almost guaranteed catch fish. Gold spinners work really well. Smaller the better. Fish are $6 each( if staying on site) no catch and release. The site has lots of amenities like a dish washing station, heated pool and splash pad, playground, laundry room, fish cleaning station, wifi, arcade and hot showers. Owners are very friendly and make everyone feel very welcome and glad they are there. There is a $5 all you can eat breakfast of pancakes and sausage with orange juice available to purchase in the office. Tent camp sites are a little close to each other but are very nice clean sites. Stayed here after a long day at Garden of the Gods, it's near by all the main attractions and right off the highway. We didn't hear any noise during our stay. The camp spots may be closer together then some places but everyone was super friendly and gave my family a chance to meet people from all over the US and UK. The kids loved the playground (3 and 5yo) as well as the arcade. They have a lone duck on site name Gary, but turns out he's actually a she lol after they found eggs. Really disappointed in this overpriced campground. Everything is tightly packed: the sites are crowded, the restroom + showers are tight, and the playground is almost on the road. We came hoping for a relaxing place to rest after a long time on the road, but it felt overwhelming with so many people in one place. And knowing I paid so much for it adds to the misery. read more

It's a cute campground and the staff are super friendly but the campsites and cabins are right on top of each other. Our cabin was so close to the pool that we would get splashed. The creek isn't really anything much but a trickle. You couldn't walk around the campsite as it wasn't a loop. The mountains were a nice back drop and it's good for one night. read more

Extremely family friendly! The owners were very nice and very accommodating. Their hard work to keep the campgrounds clean shows. They were out everyday cleaning the pool, cleaning the pond, fixing things, etc. The campsites aren't secluded at all(very crowded), but that is what our family needed with two little girls. The bathrooms were clean and had locking shower doors (I always love that!) we tent camped at site 46 and had a stream running right next to our spot! We saw tons of wildlife! Wonderful! Check in was simple, our campsite is next to a babbling brook, big trees, pool, and hot breakfast ($5) in the morning. Bathrooms are clean, playground for kids and a very nice owner. Owners have been here a long time, so they are knowledgeable about the area. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Sites for campers and rvs look level and there are some pull throughs. It was mediocre - an ok place to just have a place to sleep. It is set up with too much in too small a place- very cramped, including the restroom and showers, the placement of the campsites, pool, etc. I know they want to squeeze in a lot of sites to make money. If that's the only goal then I think they, in their minds, are successful. I did not feel welcome. The people running the office and little common room area made me feel like I was an intruder in their little coterie. The grounds are right by a rather busy highway, so all I heard, even during the night, was cars, tucks and motorcycles. Not peaceful camping. Also- I couldn't help but worry about flash flooding because the entrance is a steep downhill grade and the campground is closely surrounded by mountains. I do plan to come back to the Colorado Springs area, but will not be back to this campground. read more

The camp sites were semi-wooded with a creek running behind them. The camp amenities were perfect for a cold day - lots of games, a warm place to sit, warm bathrooms. The owners were friendly and accommodating. We weren't able to stay for the breakfast, but they had $5 pancakes and sausage too - and free coffee. read more

Hot coffee in the mornings up at the office and very friendly staff. It can get crowded but it remained quiet the few days we were there. We reserved a spot (#28) on the little stream back in March or April for the July 4 weekend. Our spot was quiet even though it was a busy weekend. Highway 24 is a little loud at all hours though. It was our first real camping with our 3 year old and he did awesome! He loved the playground and the pool and the stream (he'd put a stick in the fire and then put it out in the stream). It was nice not having to make breakfast (paid the $5 per person for pancakes) and the showers were always hot even though they were constantly in use. Staff was friendly also. The campground served as a great base for all the things we had planned for the weekend- 30 minutes to Cheyenne Mt Zoo, 15 minutes to Pikes Peak Cog Rail and 15 minutes to Cave of the Winds and Manitou Springs. Would definitely stay again- the child would move in if he could. read more

I agree with many of the other positive reviews, but there's more to know before you book your spot. The pull-through trailer sites are very close together and the road noise from 24 is terrible. It was roaring all night long. After the first night we planned to leave but owners were super nice about it and helped us find two new adjacent spots near the creek. If we return, we'll know to ask for specific site numbers. We have a strict "leave it better" policy when packing up, and we cleaned up a large amount of trash, cigarette butts, plastic water bottles, etc from around the creek. It may have been due to a busy weekend, but the camp needs some TLC. This is not wilderness camping. All spots are close together so you better be prepared to be friendly with your neighbors. The trout fishing is great, but it can get expensive when you have kids who love to fish. $6 each fish added up, especially when we don't really want to eat that much fish. We froze several to bring home for later. The sad part was the number of fish that we saw in the trash. Caught, killed and tossed because they don't allow catch and release but the people don't know what else to do with them. The pool is tiny and very warm. I would not have stepped in that lukewarm, kid-infested toilet bowl for anything. This is a pool for kids, not for adults. The lodge, bathrooms, showers, playground, etc. are all nice amenities and this is a Very Kid-Friendly place to camp. We didn't try the breakfast in the lodge but heard it was very good. They do advertise Wifi, but it is not accessible from the creekside spots. If you must connect, you really need to go sit in the lodge, which has some nice booths and a charging station. Lone Duck is very convenient to all the fun activities in the area - we rode the cog railway to Pikes Peak, toured the Cave of the Winds, and visited Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Final note, the owners were really, really nice and accommodating and I would recommend this place, but I think you ought to know what to expect. The pictures on their web site don't give the full picture of how close the spots are, especially when all sites are full as they were on our recent 4 night visit. read more

I can not say enough about the Lone Duck and Steve and his family that has worked very hard over the last 30 years to make this a family campground. I taught my wife and son how to camp, bait hooks, catch fish and clean fish and the best part cooking fresh trout. I thought my son how to swim there also. Over the years he would invite his friends to come with us , and I remember one year the two boys were playing the claw game and had a trash bag full of stuffed animals and I said you guys have enough stuffed animals and my wallet had been been opened enough . Anyway the two youngsters went to the office and offered to sell the stuffed animals back to the owner Steve, well not only did Steve buy them back , he paid them an extra 2.00 more than they spent lol. The boys thought they were big Wall st business men on that trip. Anyway my son is 27 years old with a one year old child, he called me and beautiful bride of 30yrs. And said let's all go to the Lone Duck . And as me and my bride sat there with tears of joy in our eyes watching our son teach his wife to fish, clean and cook the fish,taking his baby in the pool and swings. Both myself and my bride looked at one another and realized what a five star family resort the Lone Duck really is.
