I have had multiple pairs of jeans, just like the ones that I took in, hemmed with original hems with absolutely no problems whatsoever. A hem is a pretty basic thing for a seamstress, even if it involves putting back on an original hem. I would have much rather she told me that she just didn't want to do it, or didn't have the time, than to insult my intelligence by telling me all the reasons it couldn't be done. One time I took new clothes I recently had purchased from a department store because there was a slight mildew odor. I did not notice the odor when I purchased them, only after I arrived home and removed the tags. The dry cleaner deodorize the clothes so there was no smell at all.
