The Woods of Liberty - 1x1 Renovated

    The Woods of Liberty

    (5 reviews)

Living at The Woods of Liberty has been one of the worst housing experiences I've ever had. On the…read moresurface the complex looks okay, but once you're actually inside the unit, the problems hit you fast and they never really get fixed. There are serious issues with the building itself. I've had wasps literally coming into the bathroom from inside the walls, which is not just annoying, it's a real safety and health concern. There is visible mold, recurring leaks, and a constant feeling that the place is damp, dirty, and poorly maintained no matter how much you clean. What makes it even worse is the way management and the organization operate. Problems get brushed off, "fixed" halfway, or dragged out forever, and you're left living with the consequences. They are quick to take your rent but unbelievably slow to take responsibility for basic habitability and repairs. The way things are handled feels even dirtier than the mold and the leaks in the walls. If you're considering moving here, think very carefully before signing anything. Between the insects coming through the walls, the mold, the leaks, and the dismissive management, this place is not worth the money or the stress.

There are many problems with this apartment complex that the property manager seems to sweep under…read morethe rug when you move in. In the summer, the place gets so warm that the temperature constantly goes to 90 degrees or higher if you don't leave the A/C on full time. There are multiple leaks in the ceiling that maintenance never really fixes. They just say they're going to when you talk to them. My electricity was out for an extended period of time since Ohio Edison took my meter! The apartment complex claimed not to know about it but it seems very fishy that an electric company can just take your meter and stop service for no reason. After I finally got the electricity back after like 18 days (during which I had to move out temporarily), I just asked the property manager to lower my rent for that month. She refused and said that it wasn't the apartment complex's fault at all so her hands were tied. She even did a random inspection on my apartment during a weekday and interrupted a very important work meeting I was in for no clear reason. She told me that she informed me about it but I didn't receive any email or text correspondence from her. Overall, I'm very disatisfied with the way I've been treated like I don't matter as a tenant. I'm just hoping that when I move out, I'll get my security deposit back due to the multiple leaks that have occurred (not my fault but afraid apartment will try to pin it on me anyways). Advising a strict word of caution to anybody who wants to rent here! Be careful. The apartment leasing staff is only nice until you move in, and then they don't care about you. Update: After multiple complaints, the maintenance department did address my leakage issue but still did not fix all the leaks despite assurances that they would do so. The landlord did talk to me about this and said that she would try to do everything she could and improve her communication with me, yet I was still left in the same boat wondering what was happening with my apartment (there were no further texts/emails from her).

Be very careful when you move out. Take pictures if you would like your entire security deposit…read morereturned. Our son lived in apartment for two years. Was charged a repaint living room fee. Would think standard practice is to repaint apartments for next tenant. Daughter was charged for removal of personal items. Hmmm wondering what that would be since checked over and over and never received a call to pick up the items. They walked through the apartments with manager when keys returned. Also paperwork said deposit would be returned 30 days after everything turned in. Took well over 45 days. Frustrating!

There are a few reasons why I would never live in the Erie Terminal Place or any apartment building…read moreowned by NYOPG. 1. The management is terrible. Things are not consistent and they have no clue what they are doing. You would think for over 10 grand a year to rent a small apartment that at least the place would be nice. Complaints are never really dealt with. I have gotten bothered by homeless people for money in the parking lot, told the manager, never was resolved and he still approaches me when he sees me. 2. The building was supposed to be really nice, but to be honest it is far from nice. The apartments themselves aren't terrible, but for the size they should be cheaper. People are noisy, I smell weed and cigarettes constantly. I see beer bottles left all over the lobby as well. 3. I don't live there anymore, but the grapevine of friends who do live there still claim that they cut off guest parking. So for 10+ grand a year you can sit in your apartment alone or have your guests park in some shady lot or on the side of the street of Youngstown. Apparently they chose this building without considering parking spaces, as there is only enough parking for each resident. I will spell it out for you: B-A-D management. In conclusion, there are far nicer places to live that cost a lot less and have a lot less headaches and false promises. For the price you pay here you could rent out a house with a couple of friends and have parking, a noise free environment, and a less stupid management team. All in all, beware of NYOPG rental properties! According to NYOPG they own Realty Towers, Flats at Wick, and Erie Terminal Place. I would avoid all.

Spending money on unnecessary "hallway upgrades" instead of fixing real issues needing the money…read moreput in. -Huge 10+ foot cracks in the walls around weight-bearing areas showing a foundation issue (I swear if the building collapses and kills my kids, they will have a HUGE settlement to pay!! And even that won't calm my fury). -carpet flooring needs replaced with hard floors (and I don't mean shitty stickers that wear and shift over 2 years) -Old stoves from 70's and 80's need replaced -broken microwaves need replaced when they broke years ago -washers and dryers that don't damage clothes and cost more than the laundromat -insulation needs replaced, upgraded heating system (we are freezing if the Temps go below 0). Seriously, this isn't some ghetto-ass neighborhood we live in. We pay more than enough to have meaningful and NEEDED things upgraded and/or replaced and/or fixed permanently. Not some renovation in the hallway. Be glad we didn't sue when my husband fell down YOUR stairs, breaking his back, because the "grip" on the stairs were rubbed smooth from probably decades of use (the ONLY thing good from this renovation). If it wasn't for that, our rent wouldn't be late all the time and we would have been in a house by now. But no. He broke his back and was let go because of it so he had to get a job where he makes less than HALF of what he did. You owe us actual relevant renovations. Just do the stairs, not repaint the walls and put up new trim. That wasn't necessary.

I was told it was my fault, and they…read moremade me pay for the exterminator ($600) when I have never heard of a tenant paying for that. The January 2021 treatment was successful but the bed bugs came back by the end of summer. I was told that if I reported them again I would be evicted. So, I made arrangements myself to get treated. Management found out and made me use their exterminator and they are now evicting me. The manager of this building gives off the most negative energy I have ever known and I am 67 years old. I have caught him in several outright lies. He doesn't like me and the feeling is mutual. I will fight this eviction because it seems to me I am targeted by this manager who nobody in the building likes.

Westchester Square Apartments - The owner and the bullshit. They dont care about YOU at westchester, they care about MONEY.

As of June 2024 Your property managers are Matthew Pugh, Beth Reitz, or Mark Ringold. The CEO of Westchester R.E.D. is Eric Diehl. The owner hides in Englewood NJ and is named Issak Voladarsky. Sued them in court for my deposit back. They withheld $30 after 17 yr tenancy for "cleaning the oven." I disputed, they show up with a CEO and a lawyer to waste 2 hours and just paid me $95 for costs and doubling the $30. From move out to full refunding of deposit was 5 months 13 days. The apartment was spotless, re rented with a coat of paint in 1 month. Don't EVER RENT from corporate landlords, they will raise your rent yearly, withhold and cut services, downgrade tenant requirements. You will be hammered here 10% of your rent if more than days late, spelled out like effective 12:01 on day 5, which will make you late next month accumulating until they use their swift eviction process. Putting a RED PAPER on your door complete with full names of tenants to shame you to your neighbors. They will nickle and dime you on everything and that will apply to your deposit on move out. Lease outlines two awful things in addition to being all for them, very little for you. 1) Air conditioner not working will not be considered an emergency. 2) You will clean the carpet or pay us $90 on move out. Clean will not be clean enough, you will pay $90 anyway. They let horse sized dogs in one bedroom apartments. If your upstairs neighbor has a dog and plastic flooring, click, click goes dog nails on the floor all night. Loud thumping rap music in the parking lot, a ton of disrespectful 20-30 year olds, parties, noise, trash around the dumpsters, dog crap on the ground, halls not vaccuumed in months, stained carpets are just everywhere. Trees falling and crashing to the ground are the amenities. I asked Matthew Pugh who was begging me to sign their nasty lease from October - March, what is in it for me? He said, "A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD." Not good enough of even an attempt at an answer. After 17 yr tenancy, no late pays, I turned in my notice and keys. They have ignored requests to repair and wedged open an electromagnetic fire door which should close by fire alarm. Water cascades over clogged gutters causing damage in the basement units. There were two full evacuation fires in my building between Dec '23 to Mar '24. There have been major drug busts out in my building and a woman (Imoni Hackett) held a kid hostage by gunpoint in 2022 while the front building was evacuated in the summer roasting heat. That required multiple police jurisdictions, even FBI for the hostage situation and the woman posted it live on social media she took her kid hostage was dead soon after the police left the apartments.
