Interesting, Interesting, Concept.... and a Very Chiswick Concept too. A Cafe [slash] Auction house, just opened for 2011 near Stamford Brook tube. The concept seems to work very well in this affluent upper-middle class part of town. Teas, lattes, pastries, sandwiches, soups, wine and beer on a lovely seated area with so much to look at. On one side are big windows to people-watch on Chiswick High Road. See who gets their bus, see who runs along only to miss the number 27. On the other side of the seated area and free to browse around is a large room full of treasures up for auction. Antiques and collectibles from oil paintings and furniture to tea seats and diamonds. High Road run an auction every month which is fine to just walk in on. They will even give you free valuations if you bring stuff in and maybe they too will end up sold here. I really like this concept and it'll thrive here I'm sure. It's somewhere nice and relaxed to get a coffee or wine and read the papers but it doubles as a showroom of the beautiful and quirky. No doubt by marrying the cafe to the auction showroom High Road will make money and get many interested locals coming by for the auctions. No-one bid for the antique tea set please. Customer services is not good. Somewhat pretentious in a Charles Tyrwhitt sort of way - people trying to act posh but only highlight the lack of class in the process. Never enough staff to deal with enquiries and they have often ignored requests for condition reports. Which has resulted in me not bidding for some lots - which undoubtedly results in lower sale prices for people who consign goods. They are also very naughty in not putting obvious faults in the description like woodworm. They try and hide behind there printed terms and conditions - but recent European Directives gives buyers a lot more rights - so if you have problems contact Hounslow Trading Standards. They don't have enough on duty on sale nights and the staff behind the counter are always in a fluster and can make you feel you are a nuisance. They could have a great business if they described the goods properly, dealt with enquires rather than ignored them, and put more staff on duty. read more

Please can someone advise me. How do I get these people to pay me? They sold lots of our antiques and old junk in January. It's now mid March and despite loads of promises that I will be paid in the next day or two - they still have not paid. They don't reply to emails. When we phone they promise the money will go through in a day or two but they are " very busy", "changing their accounts system" - one excuse after another. If only I'd known I could have donated the piles of family junk to Trinty Hospice. Please advise. How do I get these people to pay what they owe me? Thanks read more

Where to start with High Road Auctions in Chiswick? I have bought many things from this auction house and it seems that buying on the night is the only thing that works normally here. Bid in person on the night, pay on the night, collect item on the night. However, selling here is a completely different story - a total nightmare. I had previously sold some items here and the service was poor - slow payment, lack of communication and they actually lost 2 items (and I had to do all the chasing on that occasion). However, I thought I'd try them one more time since I'd prefer to give custom to a local business rather than a central London auction house. I took about a dozen items in at the end of November 2014 and I've only just received payment for the final lot. I stupidly thought that all of my items would be in the following week's sale. No - they were put in piecemeal with no rhyme or reason. I had no idea if/when the items would be in an auction. Sometimes I got a pre-sale advice note, sometimes not. All in all, my items were spread out over about 6 different auctions. I had late payment on 3 occasions. The staff never answer emails or call you back. On one occasion I was kept on telephone hold for 20 minutes and then told nobody could help me. It's fair comment to say that the customer service.is quite literally appalling and so I'll take my future business elsewhere. read more

I bought a ruby ring at auction for £1,200 from London Auctions Ltd in August 2017 on which they took a buyer's premium of £288. An insurance valuation revealed that the ruby was glass filled. This process involves drilling the imperfections out a low quality stone and impregnating it with glass. Such stones are virtually worthless. As it is very hard to detect, reputable auction houses will reimburse and are willing to confirm this in writing. Not so London Auctions Ltd. They initially promised to do so but were overruled by their jewellery expert, Ms Tabitha McHenry. This was bad enough but what followed was truly astonishing: Ms McHenry then offered to put the ring back into the next auction without disclosing that the stone was glass filled even though she now knew this to be the case. In a business where so much depends upon trust and reputation this is just shocking. Legal it may be but ethical business practice it most definitely is not. The site does not permit the award of no stars so it will have to be a rather generous one star for London Auctions Ltd and Ms Tabitha McHenry. Next stop Hounslow Trading Standards. read more

I regularly sell items through High Road Auctions and have found that since the beginning of this year (2014) the service has much improved. There are many new faces there and I guess new management. Whereas in previous years they would sell about half the items I left with them, this year they have sold 90% (27 out of 29) and often well above reserve. They are also now paying me promptly, 14 days after the items sell. I would now be confident in recommending them. read more

Encountered friendly ,helpful staff especially those on the floor & in cafeteria. Then I had the misfortune to inconvenience someone from management . So..my story.. Episode1: I puchased a mirror drawer set about one month & half ago . It was delivered damaged.i.e. the glass was on drawers was,cracked as it 'had fallen' according to the delivery guy. I tried that same day to contact the auction house to no avail & also left some messages re-same. No feedback or apology was received . I attended their premises & spoke to a man named 'Andrew' who advised me that it was the fault of the driver who had delivered said item & failed to securely wrap /cover it . He advise me that he would sort the matter by having the dawers fixed & assured delivery within 1-2weeks . He also made it clear to me that he was 'doing me a favour' and at no stage of any of our conversations did I receive an apology . To date ..I am still awaiting the delivery of the said purchase . After many calls & messages left for him,the delivery was arranged for Thursday 23/08. This did not happen even after many telephone call & reminders. So , today, about a month and 2weeks later ,I call Andrew to request delivery & ask why delivery was not made as promised . His response: "he is busy and cannot spread himself "This said in an abrupt and rude tone of voice. I ask if there is anyone else I could speak with -he states he is the man ..the main man. My response to Andrew ,Mr Main Man - Is this the way you behave & treat your customers/clients AFTER you have not only sold but damaged an item sold to them and reneged on a promise of delivery? Episode 2: Receipt and acknowledgement of purported purchase made in my name at High Road Auctions. I received an e-mail re -above for the some of about £1000.00 Imagine my shock & disbelief especially that of my ever calm husband who was unaware that I had made such a purchase and believed I was hiding it from him .! I call the Auction house..surprise ..no response . Leave messages ..same effect . I call Andrew ..The Main Man ..to advise of this matter of concern . His response ..'call customer service on Monday!' So ..Customer concern , Breach of privacy ,data protection ,possible fraudjust some of the issues here , of no concern to him or to the Auction House ? What does this say about this company ..a bunch of Cavaliers when important issues need to be dealt with ..? Only friendly /helpful when they believe a potential sale ? You tell me ..would you want to encounter this behaviour anywhere ? One man's inadequacy is sadly a reflection on the entire Auction House . My request: Either deliver my goods or refund my money. Sort the issue of the purported sale & explain HOW this breach managed to occur . Why do I write this review ? I had a shocking experience here. I spent a lot of money (just under £2,000 on various items of furniture) over the course of two auctions in February 2013 as well as placing an antique (Edwardian) oak desk with them to sell. They say that if you don't collect your goods before midday on the Friday after the auction (the previous Tuesday evening) then you MAY be charged £10.00 per day. Not only did they never inform me of any successful bids, nor of any bids put on my desk, but they failed to listen to the numerous voice messages I left trying to arrange delivery of the goods. Their phone lines only operate between from 10 until 6 and on Friday only from 10 until 12. Outside these hours you can't even leave a message. I telephoned numerous times on the Friday morning between 10 and 12 explaining that I was in a meeting and wouldn't be able to collect the goods myself but leaving my husband's number so that they could arrange delivery with them. They failed to answer any of these messages. Anxious not to incur the cost of storage I then decided to drive straight to the Auction house when my meeting finished. I arrived there at 12.45. The shop was closed but there were about 30 people inside the building arranging furniture for the viewing the following day. I therefore knocked on the door. I was ignored. I knocked again one of the men mouthed to me that they were closed could I not read? I mouthed back I need to talk to someone. He just turned his back and I continued to be ignored. Eventually I resorted to beating frantically on the door until someone HAD to give me attention. They asked me to leave and said how dare I beat on the window like that I said I wasn't leaving until I had my furniture. We had a massive row in the shop and I was told that I couldn't collect the goods unless I paid the £10.00 storage charge I said I would not pay the charge as the goods were still on the premises, the van hadn't left for the warehouse yet, and if they had answered their phone/listened to the messages then my goods would have been delivered already. The nasty man who was also extremely sexist, effectively blackmailed me, forcing me to pay the £10.00. I immediately took my desk out of their auction house and drove straight to Chiswick auctions on Bollo Road which is a far more professional, interesting and reliable outfit. I will never cross the threshold of High Road Auctions again and strongly advise no one else to. read more

Bad listing cost me £173. Item was listed as being 20cm when it was in fact only 12cm, This was a huge difference as it was a bronze. I bought the item at distance via the Saleroom. read more
