As well as the more obvious collectables, paintings and furniture from several centuries, all sorts of strange items turn up from time to time: antique hats, war souvenirs, old signs. Auctions are held on Saturdays at 11am. Some lots are featured on the website in advance, but nothing beats actually going and having a wander round the large auction room: choose between Friday evenings (ideal for browsing with a glass of wine in hand) or Saturday mornings (for a brisker look around before the bidding starts). Staff are friendly and helpful, and it's hard to beat an auction for excitement. A couple of caveats. The concrete-floored building can be rather cold in winter, so wear warm clothes (especially socks!). The seats can be pretty hard, too. However, those minor discomforts are worth suffering for the chance to come across something really interesting - and perhaps at a bargain price.

Rude and acerbic is the way I was greeted, and the person I met with valued two lousy carver chairs I had from an American discount furniture store at MORE than an antique dining table. Really? If you want to see the circus in action, come here as there seem to be plenty of clowns; if you want to make money and get decent returns, then go elsewhere.

The staff are super-friendly and welcoming and give helpful advice. They use all natural fibers like organic cotton etc. and their products are made in UK, so you can be sure that you're not contributing to child slave labour overseas by buying their products! They have a "feeding-booth" if your little one needs feeding and you don't want to breastfeed in public (you don't have to buy anything, you can just go in and use their feeding area for free). The Peace Hospice…read moreShop formerly SW Herts Peace Hospice is one of the many ways that the Hospice raises money in order to give the in/out patient care free of charge to the patients and their families. It has been my pleasure and misfortune to know many patients over the years of the Hospice, and now have family in their inpatient unit. I cannot believe in 20 years this store is flourishing with great items donated by the people of Radlett and the surrounding areas. In the last 14 years of my departure from England the Hospice shop and the volunteers (some I still remember fondly) who are still there run the store as cleanly and pleasantly as the legacy we worked hard to bring. This is not your average charity shop. Featured in an early episode of Little Britain this is a must for anyone visiting Radlett if you can brave the parking.

I stumbled upon the What If Gallery whilst shopping in Dartford, and I was pleasantly surprised by…read morewhat I found. Dartford is a little lacking in places for artistic folk to display their creations so this for me was a welcome addition to the town centre. The gallery itself is situated in an old shop which was disused and awaiting redevelopment and is divided into several rooms. This is a perfect venue for local artists to show off their work and potentially sell some of it. On entering, I found the staff to be friendly and warm and enthusiastic about the project. As far as I know they are all volunteers. I enjoyed walking around the gallery - not only were there paintings on display but some craftwork and cards too. The great thing about this place is that not only do they encourage painting and art, and they hold some art classes here too, but I was told there is also a music rehearsal room for hire here at quite a competitive rate and I got the impression that they supported all other types of artistic expression and creativity too. A welcome addition to Dartford town centre and hopefully they will be able to find permanent premises before they have to move out when the redevelopment takes place.

But on the whole it's a classy area. In the heart of crouch end you will find this beautiful vantage and second hand store. So all my friends keep asking me, just how do I get so many men (multiples at once at times) . They often say things like "Kerry. B how did you bang that hunk" or "Kez is your muff made of magic because you are well and truly batting above your weight there". Well the painted black is my secret weapon, if there is one thing men like more then a cheap date and a quick drunk it's a moderately over weight middle aged woman wearing vintage clothing. This store also does a selection of shoes and a small selection of jewelry. I know for a fact that a Betsey Johnson coat would be at least 200 pounds..here it was 99.00 and like new. This place rocks. Now I know how the fashionable women who don't make 100,000 per annum go designer.
