They have a selection of freshly baked stuff that a van brings each morning. The shopkeeper is a nice guy and always has a friendly smile and a chat with the customers. Prices are obviously higher than a supermarket but then no one does the bulk of their shopping in these places I suppose.

It's not huge but has a decent selection of products and there are certain things I like more than other supermarkets in the area. First, there is a huge cheese selection - much bigger than even the large grocers in the area. They also have quite a bit of high-end smoked meats. They have very nice looking prepared food, much better than your average Sainsbury's meal deal (although more expensive). Their pastries look beautiful but again are very expensive. They have small sections to cater to dietary restrictions like vegan and gluten free. The store feels very nice and upscale and clean overall. While not as cheap as the other local options and without the variety of the larger stores, it's a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

Thank you nice postal service worker that was quick. What's this?... there's something wrong with my feet! they're going in the direction of the chilled produce rather than the front door... Luckily I didn't have any cash on me otherwise it would have been all gone for sure. It's like a posh neighborhood health food store (Americans, think Adronico's and kind of whole foods but with a little bit of Safeway select discount items thrown on some center isle displays. There's lots of yummy looking premade foods and a nice looking seafood section and some olives in pots thrown in there for good measure. They definitely seem to cater to the lunch crowd in here. Or at least to the poor susceptible fools who shop on an empty stomach. You have to wind through a maze of prepackaged yummy treats before you get to the registers. Naughty Budgens! Evil Budgens. That's the only part I don't like.

I live in between Tescos and Sainsbury's and have always shopped in Tescos as I have not liked…read moreshopping at the Sainsbury's in Hayes due to many reasons; It was quite a small supermarket and always very busy with never many staff on the tills. I also never found the supermarket particuarly clean and tidy it wasn't by far one of Sainsbury's best outlets I have been to a very nice one in Woking and the difference is massive. Although... As of November 2008 they are extending and refurbishing which is long overdue. I have yet to go but if it is good I just might start shopping in Sainsburys instead. Watch this space

Oooh! This Spar makes the world better!…read more It is probably the most middle-class convenience store I have ever been to! There is a good range of exciting Itailian/Spanish meat, amazing cheeses, purple cauliflower(!), random american candy (like those cookies and cream Hershey bars) and even home made microwavable meals (pasta, lasagne, roast chicken...that kind of thing) as well as the amazing bacon Jam. BUT the best part is the lovely Italian man at the back of the shop who will make you a stone baked pizza from scratch. We had to try one (or three...we've been back a couple of times.) You have to pay for your food at the till, then give the receipt to pizza-man who then whips up some pizza-shaped-joy for you to take home. Yay! **It's not just me that thinks this spar is good! I use google to find the postcode and found out that this shop won the convenience Retailer of the Year 2011.**

Sure, it's a bit more expensive than Sainsbury's. But I don't think I've ever seen another grocery store that so fully stocked its shelves with local meat, bread, cheese and desserts. Also worth checking out is the little cafe called the 'New Yorker' which seems to be part of the same operation: decent coffee is hard to track down in this area, but the cappuccino here passes muster and the staff are always friendly. One interesting little "factoid" about this place: it's housed in the actual (rebuilt) 'Manor House' pub after which Manor House station and the surrounding area got its name. As a local who's positively gasping for a pint in the area, I do wish they'd kept it as one!

I never bothered going into Costcutter because I figured it might be cheap but wouldn't have the variety and quality of groceries I'd want. Today, after going in for the first time, I am totally won over by the endless plethora of random imports, in addition to all your staples excepting fresh meat. Loads of pickles, Polish sausage, jars and boxes of exciting unidentifiable foods, loads of different kinds of cheeses, frozen seafood, organic milks, coffees, juices, an impressive alcohol section with different and interesting things, spices, fresh fruits and veg, cereals, biscuits, crackers, pastas, pestos...I could go on and on, but I will basically sum it up with everything you could possibly want for your daily grocery-shopping needs minus fresh meat and fish. I intend to do all my shopping here in the future, and shall only venture into the nearby Tesco or Sainsburys if I need meat. I'm kicking myself for not discovering this place earlier, but better late than never I suppose.

They are fairly priced, and sell quite…read morea range of products on top of the usual green-grocer stuff, brilliant if you are at home near-by and have forgotten something vital for dinner. They also sell quite a range of alcohols (liquers and spirits ect), as well as some really good samosas and other ready to eat foods. They don't have a vast array of publications on sale, other than the main UK newspapers, but there is a small shop across the road that sell the largest collection of magazines and newspapers from around the world, in all languages that I have ever seen. Go here, not Mayfair food Fayre!

The Co-op is a convent little supermarket with a wide range of products for such a small store…read more Although their products are at a premium compared to other local supermarkets you may extra for the convenience. They usually have a few quite good offers on food, and their fresh bread and pastries in the morning are not to be missed. Also if you go after 8pm at night it is quite likely that a lot of the food will be reduced and sometimes you can get really good bargains. Overall I would recommend the co-op for picking up a few essentials rather than a large family shop.

They are cheaper, fresher and tastier than tescos around the corner. If they don't have any, ask, and they'll grab them out of the oven for you. They also sell fruit, ice-cream, teas, drinks, snacks and everything you would expect from a convenience store...along with some London tourist-y bits and bobs. It's not über expensive, or particularly cheap, but it IS good for croissants.
