Travelling from Indiana to Colorado. While approaching Hays, I googled pizza in Hays, KS. I found Lamatos. While it is on the other side of town. I took the short trip. I found an individual who takes his craft very seriously. He makes the dough, and the sauce himself. The pizza was so good, I asked him to make another one for me, that I took on the road with me. The second pizza did not make it to my final destination. If driving by Hayes​, Lomato's is worth the stop. Don't miss an opportunity. read more

I have never been a big pizza eater, but decided to go here at the recommendation of a longtime Hays resident. The pizza was amazing! Got a thin crust with jalapenos - cream cheese on one half, while the other got pineapples. Yes, I am that guy. The pizza crust and sauce were just perfect. Sometimes pizza can be too greasy, which I find rather off-putting... No such worries with the pizza here. The cookies were awesome and fresh-baked. Not much of a dine-in spot, so cannot really comment on the ambiance of the place. We stopped in while visiting Hays because we craved pizza and didn't want a chain place. We also wanted to get out of our hotel room. First things first: this is a take out place for the most part. There are tables inside, but it didn't give off any "stay and eat" vibes. We ordered two side salads, a 10 inch cheese pizza to share, and the half order of Buffalo wings. These road weary and hungry travelers ate it all! The pizza crust and sauce were done to perfection, and the wings? Ridiculous. Perfect. Yum. The salads were so so, but they got the job done. The turn off for me was that everything was served in wasteful styrofoam take out containers, and the pizza was dropped off at our table in....a cardboard pizza box. We also threw out all that packaging ourselves on the way out. The service in general was friendly. No rude employees here whatsoever. It was just weird to stay and eat and not get plates. Tried this place quite a few times while in the area for work. Great pizza, ordered the WORKS substitute pepperoni for extra chicken, the WORKS comes with everything & plenty of it. Tried the supreme once was not a fan, as the WORKS has a lot more on it for not much more money, a way better value! Friendly people. Pizza is cooked properly too, nice crust! Was charged the same amount for 'extra chicken' as I was for 'chicken', so extra chicken it is from now on. Highly recommend this place for a good pizza. read more

Tried it again this year while visiting my buddy. I had the hot wings & can't really remember what he had. The wings were well prepared but no sauce. Just dry wings. Breakdown review: Crust: hand-tossed, pillowy, and flavorful. If you don't eat crust, change your ways. Cheese: it's a cheesy pizza Toppings: they don't skimp. The meat (steak) was tender and had great flavor. Sauce: we got a rueben-style pizza. It had thousand island and garlic sauce, so I can't speak to the regular red sauce. Box: didn't stand a chance, this pizza wrecked the bottom. Verdict: how do Pizza Hut and Dominos stay in business with Lamato's around? I was looking for an alternative to my usual Pizza Hut. They deliver. The guy on the phone was pleasant. The delivery was in 30 minutes. The price for a large was 14$ Pros: Nice customer service, good hand-tossed crust, made it thinner upon request. Cons: very greasy (the box was soaked with grease on the bottom), the sauce was so spicy hot I could hardly eat one piece. I think too many pizza places make either the sauce or the pepperoni spicy instead of working on a good flavor and allowing the customer to choose if they want mild, medium or spicy food. I can't eat real spicy and unfortunately I have had wonderful pizza that was intricate and had delicious sauce that was flavorful and had garlic, basil and other spices, without being spicy hot. This was NOT one of those. Too bad because they have the crust down, they just destroy it with grease and spicy sauce. The other ingredients were not bad (pepperoni and sausage).
