Traveling through Barstow, I went in with my expectations high with all the great reviews. My expectations were met! Great food, great service! I ordered the flauta & luckily the lady told me it was big! Be prepared it's more like a chimichanga burrito but boy was it delicious! My husband got the California burrito but said it was mostly fries & could have had more meat which is why I only gave them 4 stars. The chips & salsa were great. The salsa looked like it was going to taste like tomato sauce but it was full of flavor. read more

Love love LOVE! Yelped a place to eat breakfast in Barstow on the way to Zion from California. Thank you, Yelp! Located in a little strip mall off Main Street, its an easy exit off the 15. I ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon and my bf ordered a carne asada one. They were both very good.... But the BEANS!! We ordered a side of them and OMG I wanted to bathe in them! We ended up ordering a huge side to go for our trip. Well done Lola's, well done! Also have to mention the decor..the art work is so cool! Best food in Barstow. I was sent to Barstow for a month for work. I ate at just about every place worth anything. This was by far the best food I had. I went 4 times and got different things every time and was never let down. I had: the California burrito, the breakfast burrito with chorizo, the enchilada plate with molé (could carry this five star by itself!!) and the hue is con chorizo. All good! We walked into Lola's today and were greeted warmly by Albert the owner and we noticed it was nicely decorated with lots of bundles of flower balls from the ceiling and splashes of red everywhere for Valentine's Day. There were even small vases holding fresh vibrant red rose buds on the tables!Luckily we beat the lunch rush and were quickly brought chips and salsa by or very friendly server. I ordered the Chicken Enchilada plate and my daughter had a Chicken Quesadilla with beans and rice which came out quickly and looked so good. My daughter was so happy with her quesadilla, she really loved the green sauce inside her tortilla. I was equally happy with my yummy plate! I was traveling to Vegas and stopped here for lunch because of the positive yelp reviews. Barstow isn't exactly Newport Coast but this place proves that good food can be had even in the dumpiest of towns. When I ordered my food, the lady behind the counter wasn't the most pleasant creature (hence the one star being revoked). Although after we sat down, that's when the fireworks began. The homemade chips and salsa were very good. My two oldest sons devoured them. I got a two soft taco combo, one with carnitas, and one with carne asada. The wife got a two crispy taco combo with asada. We both agree that these were some of the best we've ever had. Next time I pass through this trashy town I will definitely stop for some more of this delicious grub. read more

Driving on our way to Vegas and I checked Yelp for a review on breakfast place, Lola's Kitchen came up as a 4 1/2 star review. So glad we stopped, the food is ah-mazing! I had the Puerto Rican taco, so good the mix of flavors went well together. My husband and daughter got the California chicken burrito, the green sauce and sour cream was good and the french fries in the burrito gave it the perfect texture. This is definitely a new tradition to and from Vegas, we will be stopping at Lola's. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough in Barstow. Stopped there on the way to Vegas in accident and was so stoked on the food and place itself. We're talking 5 grandmas in the kitchen putting food out that is amazing. Their salsa is to die for. Ask for it in the burrito. Lola's is an amazing place that serves great Mexican food. They are a bit on the small side but I feel that it adds to the family business vibe. They are a bit expensive but it is worth it. From the service to the food, everything is delightful. They use fresh foods and you can sure taste it, and their portions are pretty big too. When I first went to Lola's, I was new in town but they still treated my like family. They are so cheerful and friendly, it actually puts a smile on my face. Their food also puts a smile on my face because of how good it is. It is great for when yoh have had a long day and want something to make you happy. When we got here it was packed without a seat in the restaurant within moments a table was free, we ordered and received our food in less than 10 minutes! Ahhhhh reminds me of my grandma's kitchen!! Yes it's tiny... but good things often come in small packages. If you are lucky enough to be passing through Barstow on a Thursday, you MUST MUST order the chicken mole. OK, I know most readers won't understand the awesomeness of this mole, so let me educate my fellow gringos. Mole, pronounced "mo-lay", is a sauce concocted by Mexican abuelas according to family recipes that go back, sometimes centuries. Wikipedia states the name derives from the indigenous word for sauce (molli), but they never used chocolate except as a drink. The recipes often take days to prepare, and are often offered only a single day in any particular week. One book advised diners to always inquire, ¿Hay mole hoy? Of course, I know a Mexican lady who buys hers at the super mercado, but she doesn't cook. Every recipe is different, and I'm sure each has its admirers, but the gold standard in my epicurean eyes is the chocolate mole. My first taste was in Oaxaca, Mexico... forty years ago. My ideal mole must have a spicy capsaicin authority as well as a pronounced cocoa smell and taste. In thirty years, hundreds of Mexican restaurants later, I have found only four that served mole that I could term excellent. So now you know why this little hole-in-the-wall is such a gem. Foodies will tell you Tokyo food is worth the cost of a plane flight, and I understand there's some terminology they use to describe restaurants that make certain cities worth traveling to just for their menus. Now I believe these people have a screw loose, but if there is any truth to their pathology, Lola's Kitchen would be Barstow's raison d'être. Normally I wouldn't review any place I hadn't visited less than two or three times, but my pollo mole was so freaking excellent, it just couldn't have been a fluke. Keep in mind: this is only the fourth restaurant in 30 years! I live in Alabama now, so Barstow is only on my itinerary once or twice a year, but you know I'm going to make damn sure I go through there on a Thursday. read more

Like many others I stopped here based on Yelp review while driving back from Vegas. Yes it's true! Grandma is in the back doing the cooking and it is awesome! Had tacos and sopas with chicken, shredded beef and carne asada all of which were excellent. You can tell these women really know how to cook. It was amazing and the service was welcoming and quick. It is pretty obvious by the majority of Yelpers giving good reviews that the few bad ones are just that. How could anyone compare the taste of the food here with Taco Bell? Came through Barstow on a road trip to LA from Las Vegas. Walked in around noon, they were busy but not packed. Service was quick and efficient, lots to chose from on the menu, and the tacos I got were delicious! I had the steak, my boyfriend had a chicken and a shredded beef taco. We each got a drink yet it came to an affordable total of $17. Overall delicious food and excellent service! If we pass back through we will definitely stop again! read more

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Barstow. If you're new to the area and are craving authentic Mexican food like we were when we first arrived to SoCal life, this is where you need to be. The prices are a bit high compared to others in the area (kinda), but you really get what you pay for. The portions are generous, and the food is fresh and delicious. I never feel like I'm eating off of a taco truck (which has its place in the world/my stomach, too!), but a high end Mexican restaurant ran by an abuelita in the back cooking up a storm. I can't say enough about this place- its divine! Very clean, very quick, and they always have a smile on their face. They are always willing to modify their menu to help suit your tastes/needs. Honestly, the only other place in Barstow with food THIS good is Plata's-- which is amazing, too, but a whole other atmosphere and vibe (but cheaper, so that's a plus). Lola's is where we take friends to, its great and you'll know why as soon as you take the first bite. There's a reason you see so many 5 Star reviews! We wanted a non-fast food, non-diner option yesterday and found Lola's on Yelp and it was such a good choice!! We shared the fried steak torta (milanesa) and ground beef tacos. Great spot to stop at on the way to Vegas from the West. It's conveniently located near a Vons grocery store, so you could pick up snacks for your trip. It has character, cucumber water, and the staff was very friendly. I believe I had Gloria's Chicken Salad, which was fresh, tasty and relatively healthy. The restroom was clean too, although it had the highest men's urinal I have ever seen. Fortunately, I'm relatively tall. :) read more
