Great place all around!! My husband and I were passing through Barstow on our way home from a cross country road trip and stopped in for lunch. First off, the host was very friendly and welcoming and the decor was modern yet charming, with obvious attention to detail. Bathrooms were cute and clean. And most importantly, the food was delicious authentic Mexican food. My hubby got the taco combo plate and I got chilaquiles. We both loved our dishes. Wasn't impressed. Restaurant was small. My husband got the taquitos and they were small, short and looked/tasted as if it was store bought and not made fresh in a restaurant. Portions were modest. I had the Chile Colorado, and it tasted the way it should but the beef was shredded and scarce. The good helping in everyone's order was the refried beans. Meh. Funky, clean, hole-in-the-wall in a strip center with a Vons. The food came out quickly. Cudos for using reusable plates and cutlery. Not so for styrofoam cups (why not paper, at least?) Let me be honest, this place smells like ass right when you walk in but the food is incredible! Jk its the most nasty food i ever tasted i wish i took a picture of the beans but they had a hair in it. Heres a big tip, wear a hairnet. Stopped in here for a meal during my drive from LA to Vegas. I noticed the people who work here treated me very differently than the Spanish speakers. The cashier would be walking around asking everyone if they were ok and if the food was ok, but never said anything to me. When everyone left they were told gracias but nothing was said to me. Really wanted to love the place but because the meat was dry and under seasoned it was just OK. The chicken verde enchiladas had a nice sauce but the chicken was too dry to eat. The beans were great and I used the good free chips to eat the beans sauce and rice. My friend had the chile verde salad. Again the meat was dry but the sauce was good.
