I had an appointment with Lois a couple of days ago and I am still reaping the benefits. I didn't realize how much I needed a little TLC. I am moving better and really enjoyed my massage. If you're looking for a deep tissue or sports massage, look no further! I've been suffering without a massage for a few months so I was overdue when I went to Lois. I prefer deep tissue work partly because I'm high strung lol and always tensing my muscles, and also because I road cycle, hike with a big heavy pack, and do a lot of lifting & physically repetitive work outside. Oh and a lot of thumb work on my smart phone haha. For me regular deep tissue massages are part of good body maintenance, along with regular exercise. So, I'll be back for more. I had a lateral meniscus tear in my right knee years ago (hard core, right?) and while that issue has gone away after rehabilitation (and maintenance), I appreciate that Lois asked about any previous injuries or conditions, and she was very careful and deliberate about positioning and the work she did during the massage. This is beyond the more general questions she asked about what was troubling me, and then paying attention to those specific areas. Such a pro. P.s. Ask for the medicup suction thingie-- I don't know why more body workers don't use it, but it's amazing. read more

Lois knows her stuff and her massage studio is nicely secluded while easy to get to. If you have muscle issues and you need more than just a nice relaxing massage she's got you covered. She's used techniques/tricks I haven't seen elsewhere that really do get to the cause of your discomfort. I get a LOT of massages... ranging from "ok" to "great". I was fortunate enough to have Lois give me a massage recently and she surpassed all my "great" massages by a long shot! She understands your body's personal needs, really pays attention to what it's saying and what needs to be healed, and then heals it! She's the definition of extraordinary! I would give Lois 10 stars if Yelp offered it. I work for a surgical practice and consistently have neck issues. Lois has helped me emensly with these issues and also old injuries with past triathlon races. My neck has never felt better and my range of motion has improved that I continue to get massages from Lois every two weeks and is part of my continue health for myself. Visiting Lois is truly a "day trip" or mini vacation. Lois is my favorite gift to me. She is located at the beginning of Oak View, so for Venturans she is just a few minutes drive away, but when you arrive you feel like you've been transported to a distant land. Lois' intuition when touching my body is so aware it's fascinating; her gentleness makes her a phenomenal resource for so many bodies access so many age groups, however I don't request gentleness... hahaha.... she's a rockstar for rigorous massages too. I have a very high pain threshold after a childhood of competitive sports & then harsh adventures since, that I prefer a very deep, sports tissue style massage aiming for "productive pain" to open my mobility, & oftentimes break pain up. I do a lot of self-care on my own fascia, but I love how Lois finds different sticky parts of my muscles & my body that I was unaware of myself, & gets blood going where it needs to be. Which brings me to another great set of her skills I appreciate - her tools & how she uses them. Lois is definitely on the more "medicinal" end of massage with me; she uses a cupping machine & I can't remember the name of her "massage stick" I'll call it for now, hahaha... She is careful & aware as she uses these, always reminding or guiding me with my breath to match her movements. Lois' communication is educated & clear so that I know the aims of extra water, exercises, etc. & the potential consequences on my body if I overlook these things. Her instructions of after-care when I leave are helpful & not judgmental. I can't recommend Lois & her talents as a healer enough. read more

Writing this review has been on my "to do" list since last summer when I was at the Oaks at Ojai Spa. I signed up to get a "basic" massage and had the good fortune to get Lois. She took one look at me and saw how "crooked" I was, especially my neck. She gave me a really wonderful and therapeutic deep tissue massage and I left feeling better than I had in a very long time. In the 25 years since experiencing a work-related injury, I've been to almost a dozen massage therapists. When we moved to Ojai, I felt incredibly fortunate to have found Lois Dominguez. I'd always gotten temporary relief from massage, but had never experienced long-lasting effects. When I drove home after my first session with Lois, I turned my head to look in my blind spot, and my neck didn't hurt! This was an astounding realization. I hadn't even mentioned this problem to Lois, yet she had made the old pain disappear. One year later, I can still turn my head without it pinching. After another session, I returned home to find that I could lie on my stomach with my arms folded under my head, without the former long-standing pain in my shoulder. This was another area that I hadn't mentioned to Lois, but she found it and fixed it. Lois has an amazing gift. She is incredibly intuitive, listens to what your body is telling her, and makes adjustments that will really last. It's this technique that puts Lois heads above any other therapist I've ever been to. read more

Therapeutic massage is not like a regular massage, it requires someone well educated on the human body and is more than relaxing tired muscles. Lois knows the workings of the body and does a good job of customizing the experience to suit your particular needs. Her hands are soft and strong and she creates a nice relaxing mood.
