It costs $5 and there's always a very interesting topic being discussed. The people who work there are extremely friendly. They're always so happy to see us (especially if there are new people who have never been to the planetarium). Very energetic, informative, and fun to talk to. The main corridor of the building is decked out with infographics, posters, books, and all sorts of fun stuff to look at before or after the shows. The dome they built for the shows are comfortable with lots of space for groups. Though space can be limited. They do sell out sometimes. I will continue to come here and support these folks. I've loved planetariums since I was a wee one and I love that Bremerton has one that seems to be doing well, and is well loved by the community. Parking is free. It's located along Pacific Avenue. If you're coming from Port Orchard, you can hop the foot ferry and walk over. It's only about a mile, all flat, and makes it an even more fun adventure. Plus you can stop and grab dinner or a beer along the way. Go support the planetarium!

The showing we attended had about 10 young children in it who were fairly roudy and asked tons of questions and constantly interrupted our presenter, but the presenter was a total champ and was amazing at answering them. Their knowledge of how to operate the actual planetarium's video system (the whole point of the planetarium) was great, and they even did an on-the-spot trip to the moon to look at a lunar eclipse from that view. Overall fantastic trip, and glad that I found this hidden gem.

We…read morearrived within an hour of closing time and the gentleman at the front door mentioned "the museum closes at five. If you want to stay later, I will get out some glass cleaner and rags so you can clean up after I go home." We let our seven year old take the lead as we went room to room to discover interesting exhibits. His favorites were (1) the model of Nimitz Aircraft Carrier. The helicopter on the deck had four blades that folded up, into the front (2) the story of a competition to see which naval base could raise the most funds in war bonds. The winner would have a ship named after them. The other competitor was Mare Island Naval Shipyard. The USS Bremerton won--and proudly displayed a model of the Baltimore class heavy cruiser, and the actual ships bell. (3) a few years ago the National Park Service team used LIDAR, sonar, and photogrammetry data captured by underwater divers equipped with scanners and cameras to compiled a cohesive 3D model of the USS Arizona. It's simplicity belies the brutal manner in which the Japanese Declared war. The three feet long 1:200 scale of the ship shows its crumpled frame. This museum ensures that long after we are gone, the memories of fallen sailors of WW will remain. My grandfather (on my Dad's side) was a captain of the USS Longshaw DD-559. After a grueling four-day period of a rain of steel (heavy shore fire) they ran aground a coral reef. 18 May 1945 my grandfather was killed. A sailors dress uniform on the wall reminded me of a picture of my grandfather on my mothers side. He safely returned home. There was an interesting exhibit upstairs about how laser printing can help lighten the load for missions out into space. There's so many interesting things here. Who knew that a wrench could be laser printed to facilitate repairs in the space station? The cost of admission is free. I highly recommend you check this out because the US Navy is an important part of our history.

This museum not only shows you turn of the century hometown, but addresses war times, Naval yard contributions, Japanese lives during WWII and the local lumber industry to mention a few. Upstairs was a special exhibit about women's role in society and highlighted local female politicians, businesswomen, law enforcement officers, and the different items everyday women used. The volunteer at the front desk was very friendly and answered questions we asked. There was major construction on the road and sidewalks while we visited it. Don't let it deter you from going, it's well worth finding a parking spot close by and walking a couple blocks!

I poked around some and found out Bremerton had a museum and Portland, Oregon. Devoted to puppets! This puppet museum here isn't a very large place but they are very active with various activities. They have a retail area where they sell puppets and a narrow room with chairs where they do puppet shows. The back room is the museum itself. The gentleman that was there said that this was just a small assortment of puppets that he has and he switches out the display four or five times a year. He said I believe that his collection numbers around 1,700 pieces. Many of the puppets here with this paticular display were originated in concept to the Far East (The Orient ) but there were a few European and American styled puppets that had fairy tale themes to them. This is a very cute place and I recommend a stop by. It's a great detour for a little while. Adult admission into the museum is two dollars.

Folksiness and artfulness, jolly to macabre, reflecting numerous nations and cultures, mesmerizing for kids and adults alike. There's a small area where you can turn the kids loose to play with puppets and read books and mess around with musical instruments. So obviously this is a family-friendly place. But don't think of it as only a kids' place, it's too sophisticated and elegant to be only that. Get on their e-mail list to keep abreast of events, special exhibits, puppet shows, and visiting puppeteers. Put together a party of people and ask about guided tours of the museum. Become a member of the museum. The collection of course is not for sale, but there IS a gift shop that can meet your own puppeteering needs!

I brought my wife, brother and sister in law along and they to take a peek into my world so long ago, '68-'70. These ships that are museums now portray naval life and and lifestyle of our men and women who serve everyday protecting our shores. Kudos to Tara,Katy and John for making this visit enjoyable.
