Great for kids and reptile lovers in general! Hopefully they will get more traffic, it's kind of out of the way place.

We were looking for something to do in the area for the kids while being in town and came across this place. It's off to the side of the main road in a small parking lot, but easy to find. We were greeted by the nice lady in the front as soon as we walked in. They have scavenger hunts for 3+/8+ yr olds with a clipboard and pencil to grab in the front, such a cute idea! You go through the reptiles first and there was a good selection of reptiles to look at. They had names, descriptions, and fun facts easily listed in front of each reptile. After the reptiles are the bugs, which was a wide selection. &after the bugs, was the selection of books/toys/souvenirs for purchase. It was such a cute little thing to do with the family for free, but they do accept donations-cash/card if you can!! Would love to go back whenever we get the chance! read more

Super fun small museum with live snakes, spiders and other insects. They had a huge ant farm too. At the front is clipboards with papers for a scavenger hunt. Really interesting displays of different insects. Best of all, we got to hold a snake! Staff was super friendly and informative and we had a blast. There was a small souvenir section for the kids. Easy parking in the front. And it was FREE! They do accept donations which I highly encourage you to donate to support this gem of a place. We adults had just as much fun here as the kids. read more

A little gem in Bremerton! My kids loved it and even better it was free for us to get in. Lots of creatures to check out including ones I've never seen or heard of before. Cute photo opps too! The lady who worked there kept to herself but was super nice when we needed her help ringing up some toys from the gift shop which is a great way to support this place. You can also donate on their website! We'll definitely be back to visit the next time we're out that way. read more

This is a fun little place to bring your kids and it's free. They have butterfly kits to that make great summer experiments.

Ok, the museum itself was really fascinating and they had tons of cool stuff to learn from. Lots of live critters to look at. What we didn't care for was 'Myrtles' tank. That poor thing looked absolutely MISERABLE struggling in such a small enclosure. There's a couple pics here of her. I looked online to see EXACTLY what she should have & she is in approximately 1/20 the size she deserves. It's just flat out cruel she's been encased in that tomb for 7 years. The young man tried diverting our questions about the turtle and he is well aware how cruel and inhumane it is. He really was nice and has a job to do, Frankly, he's too good to be there! My plans are to contact the ASPCA and a few other organizations Monday to see if anything can be done. read more

The museum was very fun and informative. My son loved all of the reptiles and bugs! There were scavenger hunts for different age groups and we did the one for kids 3+. My son earned a prize for completing it. The museum is free but will accept donations which I highly suggest. It was just the right size for my 4 year old and held his interest the entire time. The gift shop section has a lot to offer and is quite reasonable. We will definitely be visiting again! A must see especially for younger kids! read more

Visited the museum for the first time on Saturday, July 29th, 2023. Loved the seeing all the creepy crawlies! And my visit would've been perfect were it not for the store clerk trying to slyly hide his Sieg Hiel salute as a "shoulder stretch". l don't know if he thought I wouldn't catch it, maybe he assumed I was too daft to know what dog whistling is, his mistake. Anyway, hopefully someone sees this and he's not there harshing the vibes next time I come to chill with the snakes. read more

Cute place. Free and informative. A lot of reptiles and bugs to see. Pretty sure the turtle Myrtle needs to be in a much larger tank. That was sad to see. Besides that it's a cool little place to check out if you're in the area. read more

If you have little kids they will LOVE to walk about in this gift shop which gives over more of its room to snakes, lizards, and living bugs, than it does to stock for sale. The stock is pricy, but consider getting something anyway, some science toy or pupae to watch butterflies arrive at home. It will be enriching for the kids, and never mind you could get it cheaper somewhere else, you know you won't be shopping around for it, and the extra mark-up can be regarded a donation for the free exhibits. I'd give the place a higher rating but its imperfections effect animal lives. They're kept clean and appear healthily fed, but not all the habitats are sufficient. Medium-large lizards are in medium-small terrariums. The adult ackie monitor for example needs minimally a terrarium in the 50 gallon size range. They need places to burrow, niches and cracks to hunt in, a bit of climbing area. The one here has a small tank with a small amount of sand, a water bowl, a heatlamp, and that's pretty much it. In consequence this intelligent inquisitive lizards always lays in one corner bored with nothing to do and a bit overweight from never having exercise. There are few other animals likewise treated as though they don't need to leap, run, climb, or do anything at all. The children won't notice, but adults intimate with reptile care may leave just a tad depressed. read more

What a fun place to check out! Very family friendly. When you first walk up to the place you are immediately smiling at the big signage letting you know you've arrived at the Bug Museum. Plus. There are humongous pretend bugs right outside the door as you walk up to the entrance. This immediately gets the children feeling like, "Whoa! Where are we?" When you go inside, the main shopping area is closest to the front door. Mainly geared towards children they have fun bug, dinosaur, and science associated toys and educational items. My favorite was seeing the make your own crystals. I don't have time to make any right now, but one of these days that's on my bucket list! Once you get past the toy/candy section, they offer a mini animal museum featuring the most creepy crawly items you can ever think of. Yet, all presented in a very well lit open floor plan. So even as intimidating as it may seem to see a snake or tarantula, it's not a scary place to stand in. The back room has a few select creatures that are more temperature sensitive. Big boa constrictor, gecko's, and some other slithery creatures. That room is the most humid, and can feel a little stuffy. But again, everything is very well kept and nicely lit. So it is not too scary for little ones to go see. This trip would be a good one to pair with a tour of the Navy ship if you want to make it a longer trip or just this with a trip to a nearby park is fun too. This is a cool place! After getting frustrated with the Hood Canal Bridge being closed we tried to improvise our weekend trip in Poulsbo and Bremerton to mixed results since we really had our hearts set on the lavender fields in Sequim. I had the Bug Museum bookmarked and saw that it was free so we decided to make a little more out of our trip of disappointment and come here. A big perk is that the place is free! There are all kinds of specimens of insects that you can look at that are preserved on a frame but there are plenty of live ones there as well. There are actually other things here to see besides bugs like tarantulas and reptiles too! The things that impressed me the most was the giant yellow and white python, the tarantulas and a huge ant farm composed of the kits you can get as a kid and they were all connected together! The Bug Museum is fairly small but really cool so it is a perfect place to go to if you want a museum experience but not be tied up all in one venue all day or afternoon! read more

I am so sorry to the people who work here because they are so nice and they're doing fantastic work but I can't I'm good faith give even close to a positive review. The animals are extremely stressed out kept in minimum requirement minimum effort enclosures, with many not even meeting their basic living standards. They have multiple snakes kept in one enclosure when they shouldn't be, the insects are all dying, and almost every snake has stuck shed. This was a really bad experience and really hurt me to see this happening. Please do better. read more

This place is a little off the beaten path but easily found, small but pretty cool; bugs, reptiles and gifts. We have been here a few times and have enjoyed all the fun facts about insects, reptiles and the like. They have butterflies butterfly kits, ant farms, and much much more, family's are welcome here and staff are fun, friendly and informative. We are local here and enjoy being able to visit often. Try the eatable bugs and bug suckers, fun to try something different don't be afraid, I have eaten worms crickets and ants. read more

This great little zoo / museum is just a short drive from the ferry. They have ~25 tanks with snakes, lizards, skinks, and other reptiles. Plus tanks with tarantulas and cockroaches and butterflies. Lots to look at... you can get up close and peer in all the tanks. Each is accompanied by a helpful sign with key facts about each creature, fun trivia, and some silliness - one sign talked about silly internet names for snakes, and my son is still talking about danger noodles! Where do I begin. Kids, bugs, and snakes. A little ones wildest dreams all encapsulated under one room. And then there are the grown ups like us! Yep. We probably loved it more It's this small shop with a huge sign and wood bugs out front. You can't miss it when you are driving by!! They started out in a room in there house or a garage! Yikes, my husband would shoot me if I brought bugs into the house!! It's set up in three sections! Front is the gift shop so close your eyes and run because they have every little bug knick knack you could want with Museum prices. -Middle section contains all of the displayed bugs in glass cases. The names and origins of most are listed. * I would love to see a few more details on some of them. I love a good bug back story!! -This section also has a large glass/plastic ANT FARM. Oh did I have a million questions. The poor staffers didn't even know what hit them. Glad to know they answered everything. I don't even like ants, but now have a new found appreciation for them. Back section contains most of our little live friends! Snakes, spiders, lizards!!! That's where my eyes light up and all those memories come flooding back in, how I use to toss grass snakes at my brother because he was a scaredy cat, and so many more. *DONT TAP THE GLASS! This was a fun stop! My husband, my 2 year old son, and I stopped here while passing through Bremerton and it was really fun for my son! It is a very small museum, basically one large room with different enclosures for a variety of snakes, and other reptiles. The back half is all different bug displays (not live bugs, but display cases with various bugs from all around the world). Pretty interesting, especially for my son who enjoyed seeing all of the "creepy crawlies." Overall, a fun little stop. Only takes about a half hour to see it all, but it is free admission (although you can leave a donation, which I would recommend). Definitely worth the stop if you are interested in bugs and/or reptiles. read more

The Bug Museum is GREAT! My six-year-old daughter loves the Bug Museum and we go all the time. Seriously, don't have any worries about anything creepy here. The interior is brightly lit and there's a variety of interesting critters for kids--and adults--to explore. There's bugs, as the name probably suggests, but also a great reptile room. Snakes, reptiles, frogs, not-so-creepy crawlies. We bought a tadpole kit and raised a tadpole into a frog. My daughter can now recite and draw the entire lifecycle of a frog--in Kindergarten and she loves her frog, Polly (yeah, Polly the Frog). If you go to their website (http://www.bugmuseum.com/) there's information about their Touch-a-Bug workshops on the weekends. My daughter thinks they're great and she is very intrepid around not-so-creepy crawlies. She knows to be wary and to use her eyes and observation to explore, but the natural world around her is very real and part of her experience. Also, if you're curious, the Bug Museum is the storefront and community service--I see them as a community service, they really do strive to provide a destination for Bremerton's kids--of Nature Gifts (http://www.nature-gifts.com/). If you've been wanting a Ant Farm since you were a kid, now's your chance. They have way more than that too, everything from butterfly kits to bug-themed art. This place was awesome! The man attending the reptiles was very kind, funny, and informative. He allowed us to hold a rosy boa and a ball python, and explained what it's like to raise them. The museum had a fascinating array of insects, spiders, bugs, reptiles, and amphibians. An intricate ant farm, a 9-foot yellow burmese python, large and hairy spiders, snakes and lizards, and more all informed and entertained us. The shop had ant farms, bug-themed decorations, lollipops with real bugs inside (!), pretty crystals and agate, and more for sale. read more

Even though I'm an adult, and one who doesn't particularly enjoy bugs, I still enjoyed stopping by the bug museum. It's a tiny place but has a lot of different things to look at and learn. I appreciate that it's free, though they do take donations, and would recommend to anyone who has a little time on their hands and wants to look at cool animals and insects. read more

Fun place to visit if you're near by or passing through. I wouldn't travel far to visit since the facility is small but it was cool to see all the bugs, reptiles and fun exhibits! What a cool little store! You drive by seeing the "Bug Museum" sign and think it might be kind of dark and dank and creepy, but it's actually a very modern, clean, well lit and welcoming environment. They have 2 sections of the store-- one is the educational section, where you can view all sorts of bugs (mainly dead ones) from around the world--- you won't believe how big some of these are! They also have a live active ant farm, live butterflies, tarantulas, and some other live bugs. The rest of the store is retail (bug shaped candy, ant farms, venus fly trap kits, puzzles, etc.) I don't live close by, but would definitely come back. My 3 kids were able to hold a snake. They even let an iguana crawl around on the kids as they taught us about them . My kids thought that was the best thing ever! Great place for kids. We took some out of town visitors with a 9 year old and a 12 year old boy, and they loved it. Know that the bugs are, for the most part... dead, but there are reptiles in cages quite alive. The parents loved that there were short activities for kids to do ( so no worry about attention span). They also bought the game, Bugopoly, at the gift store and are still playing and enjoying it as a family. All in all, a very fun and educational place for kids to spend an hour or two. read more
