I recently attended a cocktail party of sorts at this venue. Prior to being invited, I had no clue this building housed an event room that could accommodate small to mid sized gatherings. Located on the 5th floor, Loft 5900 offers a kitchen, uplighting, slide shows, restrooms in the hallway, sofas, and cocktail style tables. I assume depending on the type of event you're having, depends on the furniture that's provided. We were going through a bit of a heat wave when this event occurred, so it was hot and humid to the ultimate outside. When we entered into the building it was even hotter. Literally no air was circulating in the building or on the elevator. I was a bit worried that the venue was going to be that warm too, but thankfully it wasn't. Not sure if it's like that normally, but I hope that issue gets addressed because it was truly uncomfortable. The venue itself is a cute and intimate space. It does give you the feel of a loft - hardwood floors and a chic flow, but the entryway is a bit dated and only one elevator was working that evening. It's a pretty cool option for a venue/space for an event. I think it would be perfect for a baby shower, wedding shower, cocktail party or something on a smaller scale. I'll put this on my list for future venue options, hopefully it just won't be during a heat wave. read more

The venue is nice and the space is good. The issue lies with the management of the property. Let me run down ther list of issues: 1 - You can only pay for the venue in cash or using the cash app. Credit Card/Debit Card accepting technology is so simple now even street vendors have it. Why is this not an option in 2018/2019. 2 - 1 week prior to my Wife's 50th Birthday party ther management says we have to pay $300 for a police officer because we are serving alcohol. The contract says you only need an officer oif you are selling tickets or selling alcohol. Neither of those were happening. To top it off we already received a "paid in full" invoice from them. Now you ask for additional money 1 week before our event? 3 - We are setting up for the party and the DJ is already set to ready to go and the management comes out and tells the DJ they are in the wrong part of ther venue. That if the speakers are paying music to loud on this side of the venue ther other tenants in the space may call the police. I happened to come over when they were talking and asked first why they weren't speaking to me since I paid for the space? Then I asked why wasn't this brought up when we went over the layout together and brought it up on ther big screen in the venue. So the DJ had to break everything down and move to the other side of the floor and I had to rearrange the layout 30 minutes prior to guests arriving. 4 - We waited the 30 days as instructed to request our deposit. When we emailed we received no reply. We called and them and were told there was damage to a corner of a wall dome by our DJ's son moving out the speakers and we would not receive our $300 deposit. Now the night of the event, the manager pointed this out and I brought the DJ over and he told the manager to let him know what it will cost and he would take care of it. We never received a letter, email, estimate itemized cost, phone call or anything regarding this wall. Not until we asked for our deposit did this come up again. Ended up taking them to court to get our deposit back and we won the case. I would never recommend this space and it is sad because the venue is beautiful but the management is poor and when you are just trying to have a nice party there is so much grief. We have also been in the wedding and event planning business for over 15 years and never have we dealt with such a high lack of professionalism by a venue. read more

I wish there was much more flexibility in the ratings because this place would certainly get a ZERO! In my attempt to support small black owned businesses. I was failed yet again! The customer service is appalling to say the least. When you converse with someone more than five times and meet in person twice and then follow up with expectations in writing to confirm what you are needing for an event only to have the owner come back and say oh no that's extra. Oh no this is extra too, you quickly get the sense that you're being hustled! This place is a definite no go unless you are accepting of being swindled! Oh the uplighting is more money, well no sir you told me and my designer on separate occasions that it was included. Him: No no I wouldn't say that. Me: Oh but you did! Me: we talked several times and in writing I said we needed three sofas and you said ok your contract is on the way.....IN WRITING!!!! So rightfully so I should assume that what I asked for was included in the contract since I mentioned it to you at least seven times! Him: oh no that's an additional $300! This dude will get over every single chance he gets! But you got that right one this time slim! Arrived day of event to a filthy kitchen!!!! Food remnants and crumbs on the floor. Half finished food on the counters. Less than standard sized refrigerator not cleaned with used and old juices in it. And this is the big one right here....another refrigerator in the same kitchen space, that if inoperable should have been removed but it was NOT! So what did we do? Open the smaller refrigerator thinking it was for our use only to see maggots, gnats and other bugs! INFESTED!!!! Totally freaked out and disgusted, I slammed the door close but it was too late because the gnats were everywhere! I Complain and the owner responds "Awe man I didn't even know it was like that in there." Well how in the he$& don't you know because as the owner it is your responsibility to ensure that your venue is fully ready when your client arrives is it not? Ok moving on to the next issue, being prepared for the worst but hoping for the best, I told myself to bring cleaning products. My intuition is something! Both men's and women's bathrooms were filthy with trash on the floors and the trash bins over flowing! Sinks and toilets dirty. So my best friend went to clean those while I handled all of the other messes! Owner's response "oh well all you had to do was tell me the bathrooms were dirty and I would have had them cleaned." Well why would I even have to do that since YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT THIS PLACE IS EVENT READY!!!!!! Toward the end of the event, he stands there constantly looking at his watch because if you are one minute over the time you're supposed to be out, he will keep your deposit! So to avoid additional conflict, I had people help me to help the band disassemble their equipment, wrap it up and get it in the hallway to avoid being in his space even one minute beyond the allotted time! NEVER AGAIN! DO NOT ISE THIS CENUE OR ANY OF HIS SERVICES! Learn to do business! Stop talking about we as black people need to learn to support each other when you don't even provide the basic common courtesies as a business owner! You never know the connections your clients have nor their influence! read more

If I could I would give zero stars. DO NOT RENT I rented the space last Friday for my mom repast. Renting this space was a nightmare the owner John is a scammer, I have never experienced such lack of compassion in my life. I paid what he asked and he didnt deliver we had to setup our own tables, he was in our event the entire time, and he also took photos of my guest. I had a baby shower at this venue back in October 2022. Two weeks before my shower I was told they overbooked the space I had paid for. They only offered a different space which wasn't as nice and wanted to include a free couch for the trouble. We negotiated an extra hour for the inconvenience. I had no other choice but to take the space on the 4th floor because I had already sent out my invites. I was notified last minute that they overbooked the space. They lacked communication throughout the process and even showed up at my event at 3pm when my contract stated that the event wasn't over until 5. Unprofessional. This is an amendment to my review 25 days ago. The owners personally contacted me along with her colleague, to ensure a speedy resolve to my issue. Both were more than accommodating and genuinely wanted to make sure they met my needs and that my feelings were not invalidated. After having gone through the details of my circumstances, I believe that my issue was an isolated incident and FAR from the norm. After sorting out the mix up, I've had a change of heart! Update 12/7/21: After several personnel had to contact Chris because he did not have the courtesy to respond via phone or to apologize for his uncalled for behavior, I received a response​ that of course is *eye roll*. Proceed with caution dealing with Chris Johnson at Loft5900. Also he keeps deleting my reviews which is appalling since any potential patron deserves to know what they could be walking into. Update as of 12/6/21: The venue is still nice and I stand by that but please be mindful of the lack of professionalism from Chris Johnson. There is a refundable fee that's on the contract for cleaning post an event. I asked how the refund would be returned and nothing. Between text and calls, there has been no response from Chris. My event was 2-weeks ago and it's annoying that I can't get an update about this refund. I called last week and when he did pick up, he said that he's working on it. Again, I told Chris I sent a text with my Cashapp and Zelle info just in case he needed to know how to send this refund. Fast forward to today, Chris blocked my number. How do I know? The message I received said that this number is no longer receiving calls from me. So I called from a different line and the call went through fine. What I don't understand is how a business owner thinks this kind of action is ok? EVEN IF I happen to be ineligible for a refund, he should communicate that and not block me as if I'm searching for him for some personal reason. I'm so irked with black-owned businesses that do people like this and wonder why they get shady reviews. I want my refund and to close out this situation. I would say proceed with caution working with Chris Johnson. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1st Review: Loft5900 was such a nice venue to host an event ok! The venue: The front door locks after 7p but Chris (owner) will unlock it so it stays open. Getting upstairs to the actual space, you have to take an elevator to the 5th floor and it's the 1st door to your left I believe. There are 3 elevators but only one was active in the evening. It is a bit quaint in that elevator but worth it to come up to the space for guests to dance. Really a nice setup and spacious. Chris: Chris was the owner and who I was in primary contact with. He was responsive via message to my questions and concerns I had since I booked the venue about 3-months in advance. If there was a lag time in messaging, he would call me afterwards to reply to the questions. I appreciated that and how I was able to access him. Contract: The contract does outline the fees for renting items as well as fees for outside items. Reading the contract to the tee and feel free to ask for validation of questions you may have. There are cleaning fees if you rent furniture. Essentially reading the contract and you'll know what to expect. Confirmation emails and text are sent when you pay the deposit and any other fees to be able to reference; it's almost immediate Day of Event: 2-weeks prior to my event, I sent a text message about what items I wanted. Chris and his team cleaned the couches and brought out the tables and chairs I needed 30 minutes before my setup time at 7p so they were there when I arrived and I could state where to put them Alcohol: Like mentioned in the contract section, if you have a cash bar there is a fee and your own bar another fee. Either selection requires you to have the bartender by the venue. JeVaughn, was the absolute best! He was so good as the bartender. He knew how to mix and he was adaptable. I ran out of cups yall and here comes JeVaughn saying let's call it shot hour so the drinks kept flowing. The line for drinks was never long because he was efficient and had super hearing to hear things past the music. Definitely a kudos to him. Post event: We had to make sure to throw out the trash and have your own trash bags and pick up anything you came with. Otherwise the team came in a picked up the rental spots and cleaned from 1am-2am; very prompt with that. Overall, I had a good experience. Some reviews of people's experience made me nervous but Chris and team were helpful and many if not all things were laid out in ink; having communications via text allowed for me to reference back and if anything, I could call Chris or he would call me back. This was a smooth process from renting the venue to the day of and in between. I recommend it. read more

In February of this year, i had booked my baby shower with Chris in hopes to have this event. Due to COVID everything had been shut down, Chris was nowhere to be found. He stopped answering calls and emails. I wanted to at least get a refund of my $500 dollars and or a credit for a later date but was unable to do so due to Chris's lack of communication. I continued to contact Chris because my baby shower was supposed to be June 12, 2020, after being persistent on calling him he finally answered and i asked him if i could get a refund and or a credit and he told me to email a lady in which she has yet to respond. It is now NOVEMBER and i have yet to hear anything from Chris and or hear anything back from the email. Chris has blocked my number, my mothers number and my sisters number so we can no longer contact him. He has also blocked my Instagram so that i won't be able to contact him on there as well. It's very unprofessional, and he lacks communication, and his customer service skills suck!!! He ask that you write a review before hand to get $200 off of your event. Over the past few week, I'd been looking for a place to hold my daughter's 40th Birthday party after being disappointed and let down by another space I thought I wanted but thank the Gods it didn't happen. One of my daughter friends suggested Loft5900 so, I google it and saw all the beautiful pictures of the decorated room but was not that impressed because I've been seeing so many really beautiful pictures of other venues, only to get there and the places just did measure up to its advertisement. A few day go by as I have looked at a number of places and now I'm feeling like I'm not going to find a space and then Loft5900 popped up from google of some place while surfing the net, I clicked on the photo and I see different photos then before. So I decided to give the venue a call and set an appointment to view the space. I get to the venue, take the elevator to the 5th floor to a really nice front office and I'm and pleasantly greeted by the very nice receptionist (late evening) and instruct to sit as she summons the person who's giving me the tour of the facility and in less than 5 minute I'm greeted by a young man who introduced himself as the owner and will be giving the tour and I then lead back out to the hallway and thru a door or two from the office. I stepped in and instantly fell in love with this particular the space because, first and far most, the space looked felt and smelled clean. The floor where of beautiful dark wood (well kept) the draping on the wall were nicely hung, the chandeliers with the open ceiling offer an extra nice to for any occasion. the room offed mounted tv's and projector (nice?). I must say, I was mostly impressed with is all the really big widows with no drapes that offers natural lighting for a daytime event and a really cool view of the area at night, I was there on two occasion so I got to see both night and daylight view. the only let down was it was a little to big for my need but Mr. Johnson showed me a smaller version of bigger room and what that room lacked was made up in other areas. nothing was lost on the beauty and feel of the smaller room. This smaller room was no where near small for a party of 100 -150 people. The room has separate kitchen and a separate room that could be used for the bar or separate lounge area. The light wood floor with the light color paint made the room feel large but cozy and inviting at the same time. So I booked the smaller room for my daughter special day. I can not thank Chris Johnson enough for being so friendly, patient and accommodating while maintaining his professionalism. I will due another review to include photos after my event. I really hate to do this to black owned businesses, actually this would be the first time. After a 50th Birthday party at Loft 5900 in November. Here it is March 1st and I have yet to receive my security deposit. They place was left spotless and I even fed the staff they had on premises. I have left over 10 voicemails and even went up there to speak in person regarding this. The owner finally answered and rushed me off the phone saying that another department was supposed to reimburse me. Our community really should not do this type of business. It was a wonderful experience. My family needed a venue to have a repast. We were finding it impossible to find a place in a week. The management was very professional, courteous and understood our situation. The venue had slideshow screens, a wonderful sound system and they were very accommodating to our outside caterer. After looking at several venues we located this space and we knew immediately that this was our venue. Our vision was to have an Anniversary Cocktail party. This venue offered us every thing we were looking for. We wanted a lounge club like party, so we used loveseats, high-top tables, up-lighting and slide show screens. All of which is available at the LOFT5900. The venue is on the 5th floor and had a great view. This is a nice space and can be customized for your event. Just ask and they will offer suggestions to make your vision come to life. It was the small things that were important to us and Chris (Owner) addressed each of our concerns promptly which made our event come to life like we wanted. He was on sight during our event for anything that came up which in this case was nothing. We will rent again without hesitation. read more

Listen to the 1 star reviews!!! I paid my $500 deposit on November 1st, I went to visit the location on November 13th and Chris was supposed to bring the contract for signature. He never brought it. So I do not have a signed for this venue. November 15th Governor Hogan placed new restrictions on PG county, only 10 people people for gatherings. The baby shower I am planning has a count of 35. I texted Chris to cancel on the 16th and he advised me to send an email. Today is November 25 and he has not responded to any email, text message or voicemail. Very unprofessional!!! Do not waste your money here. I will be taking legal action and will update here once it is complete. read more

Had my graduation party scheduled for May 20 and due to coronavirus I couldn't have the party. I canceled two month before my event . Per my contract, I was entitled to all of my money back. Chris stopped all communication with me for months when I requested my money back. Two months later a lady I never met contacted me after months of not communicating with me to tell me that they weren't going to give my money back. This business is a fraud. DONT DO IT! The owner or manager will trick you in giving 5 stars before the event date. I did & got 4 of my friends to write a review on google because he said he would give me extra 5 guest seats for free. After the event, me and mom & sister's cleaned up the whole place as the contract, i went back upstairs to ask him if there's anything left he want us to do, he TOLD ME NAH YALL GOOD". His nephew or whoever told me he would take the trash downstairs which he did!! I was there. 2 weeks after my event i asked for my $300 refundable deposit for (music & out by the time you stated on your contract) & he sent me pictures of the trash in the hallway & dirt on the hall floor. He took those pictures before we were done and I knew that because i went back there and there was no trash in the hallway. He didn't know I went back. The greatest mistake on part was I didn't take pictures because he literally told me "ya good". He is a scam in disguise, he did all that just to not give $300 back glutton. On top of that his neph tried to be sneaky with our drinks and my friends caught them. Smh. 1 star for good location & view.
