There are a few trees for shade, but mostly, the park is away from the bustle of campus and provides a relaxing spot to enjoy fresh air and some interesting art, several with Hoosier ties. The park is named for a Purdue student who died in a hiking accident. His parents wanted to honor his love of the outdoors by donating funds for the park. The art pieces included the following: Kaikoo VI by Betty Gold (the red metallic one) Limits by Joey Manson (the light blue one) Man and Technology by Don Lawler (the limestone hand) Sycamore Arch by Ken Thompson (limestone arch) Zig by Ken Thompson (a blocky rust brown sculpture) and an untitled piece that looks like an elevated oblong shape with vertical rows wrapped by horizontal rows on the top. Cumberland Park is one of the better planned parks in West Lafayette. There are large parking lots…read morefor visitors who are there to watch soccer or baseball/softball games. So, on Wednesday afternoons, a Farmer's Market sets up booths to take advantage of the space! The park also has a couple basketball courts, a large shelter with picnic tables, and a new sculpture at the entrance called "Rooster" to welcome the visitors coming for the Farmer's Market. The park also has a community flower garden that adds a bit of color to the park. Overall, it seemed to be maintained well and had plenty of room for further development. Review #1140

One ongoing event that's definitely worth checking out is the Tuesday Dinner & Movie night. For $15, you get a candlelit dinner (catered by Scanoli's Cajun and BBQ Restaurant, across the street) and a classic movie. These days, the movie alone would cost you $10! And that means that the $5-dinner, already very good on the palate, was also quite gentle on the wallet. They also show Monday night football on the big screen. Moreover, for most of these events, the bar is open, which means you can enjoy a drink while you watch the movie. Tell me, where else in the US can you do that! I'm sure such places exist, but they're few and far between. For what it's worth, you can also rent out the space for events such as receptions and weddings. I haven't yet been there for something like that. But if it's handled anywhere near as well as the movie night, I'm already a fan.

Unfortunately there is very little shade so your car ends up roasting under the sun. The place could definitely use with some nice green trees to provide natural shade. Restrooms: off to the left you'll see a brown, wooden construction which has male and female restrooms. I went into the female one and almost ran back out. There were two stalls but with no doors. Completely infested with mosquitoes (no joke) and just overall really filthy. I would highly advise against using them unless you are absolutely desperate. If you keep walking past the restrooms you'll see a narrow trail that leads to the creek. The creek is nice and the water is pretty shallow in most places. Good picnic spot, or a place to bring kids, or just hang out with friends/read a book.

Wea Creek Park is predominantly a baseball complex with the majority of the parking in a gravel lot…read moreon the south side of the baseball diamonds. There is a central complex that has concessions and restrooms. Some of the diamonds even have lighting for night games. The name McCaw is really used for two parks that are adjacent to each other. One is a standard…read morepark with playgrounds, a shelter, and multiple pickleball courts. The other is a baseball complex next door. They have separate entrances which is a shame if you want to visit both. (I suppose it keeps traffic around all the toddlers reduced for safety.) The baseball has lots of parking and diamonds for games. There are some facilities for the public convenience as well. The park is really cool and has one of the brightest and most loaded playgrounds I've seen in my travels. Underneath the equipment is one of those spongy shock absorbing materials that is kind of fun to walk on all by itself! There is a single entrance to the playground area, so it could get congested if cross traffic is heavy. The park is also host to a large number of pickleball courts. The sad thing is that they look like they either need attention or are undergoing some construction. I did not see a single court with a net in place, so that makes playing quite impractical. Hopefully, they will get the courts back in shape soon and make this a 5 star location. Review #1074

I was not sure what to expect from the exterior of the building. Honestly the sign above the door…read morelooks like a tarp that is just hung up there (it is an actual permanent sign) so I would suggest some other color and variations if they decide to redo this. When you walk in, it takes just a second for your eyes to adjust as the whole place is dark and lit by blacklights. As you enter the door, you are greeted with a few arcade game machines. The mini golf course is towards the back and was relatively reasonable for pricing. It was $26.00 for three adults to play a round. The course was decent with many right angle banking and some shots where you need to hit it into an obstacle. There is no elevation to the holes unless it is a ramp so the holes are almost all flat. The final hole is a large clown face where you hit the ball into his mouth. The arcade consisted of quite a few games to play: skee ball, crane games, deal or no deal, a big wheel to spin and a few other fan favorites as well. The games cost anywhere from $1.10 to $1.75 for a play so it isn't completely outrageous. There were 't too many options to choose from at the arcade redemption center so I would suggest expanding more items here for people to earn. This is a fun place to spend a couple hours with the kids or a fun date. They even have birthday packages available for children with a designated room.

Southwest of Lafayette is the new town of Shadeland (it still has a Lafayette mailing address…read morethough). The folks who live there have a fairly new park that has a combination of sports and playground equipment for kids to use. There is a nice parking lot on the southwest corner. To the east is a fair sized shelter with a picnic table and a grill. Down the hill to the north are a basketball court and a baseball field. Between the basketball and the parking lot is a bright and unique playground. There are lots of large animal shapes and even a few dinosaurs for kids to climb on. The rest of the equipment serves the same function of lots of other playground equipment in other parks, but these pieces look unique and might make for a little bit more excitement from kids given the chance to play here. The negative is that there is very limited shade outside of the shelter probably due to the park being so new. Maybe they should plant a few trees around the playground to solve that problem down the road. Review #1070

Good drinks, good beer selection, friendly (if seriously busy) bartenders, decent patio and fantastic inside seating. The decor is wonderful - love the belt-driven fans and the tin ceiling. And the food is really good - the pork tenderloin (brought down from sister bar Digby's was a "grown up" version with flavorful marinated meat encased in a nice breading that refused to crumble off, topped with a mustard sauce and house-made cucumber, onion and jalapeño pickles on a brioche bun that stood up to it all. It's not the tenderloin I had as a kid, but it's a delight for a grown-up. I really like this place, and so does my wife.

Had to stop in since I was in the area with some time on my hands. I've been to the bar in Indy…read morethat claims "oldest bar in Indiana" as well. Now, whichever it is, I've been there. The bartender was friendly & attentive. The surprise was that food comes from the bar across the street! There is no kitchen here, but they own the other bar. I got their (bar across the street) namesake burger & chips. Both were very good. I could see going back, but maybe to the bar across the street, since that's where the food comes from anyway.
