As time went on, I was more disappointed with what I saw and heard from the residents. I had over 9 residents and former workers that wanted to speak to the board of directors about the problems. Many, Many complained that the executive director just didn't care, or had a horrible and nasty manner about her. There was a constant complaint from many that the food was overcooked and hard with the meats and pancakes, to under-cooked with bloody chicken on the inside. I heard from another assisted living in Lockhart that Golden Age Home contacted them to seek kitchen and food budget guidance. The cooks are paid about $9 per hour. They are not experienced to cook for large groups. I often tasted rice that was under-cooked and crunchy to other staples that were over-cooked. You get what you pay for when you hire cheap, yet the residents suffer. The place is drab and boring. It really needs some fresh paint of pastel hues in the hallways, and kitchen could have some light green. Ugly concrete block everywhere. Nothing to compare to the class and beauty of Bois D'Arc Assisted Living in Lockhart. The rooms at Golden Age Home are half the size, with the bathroom half the size, and no walk in closet compared to Bois D'Arc Assisted Living. Yet, Bois D'Arc is only $3100 a month with all fabulously created meals and ambiance, while Golden Age Home can be around $2500 and up when medicines are dispersed by the staff. Golden Age home is not a great value compared to what you get at Bois D'Arc Assisted Living. Now the rodent and pest situation. So many rats that it brings in the snakes. There were dead cockroaches in the hallways and in some of the bedrooms. In Fact, a lady was at an appointment with Elizabeth Raxter in Wing 4 of Golden Age Home, and the dead animal smell coming from the ceiling was disgusting and offensive. Could have been a dead rat or dead snake. This occurred only a few months ago in late 2019. No organization and business is perfect. These are just accounts from what I saw and was told by others. In my opinion, Golden Age Home should be a last resort for an assisted living facility in Lockhart. There are just too many issues that warrant concern.

Then they told me I had a $250 bill. I called my insurance company, United Healthcare, and was told the office never filed. Repeatedly. At the time I went back and forth with Plum Creek who said the claim was denied. Again and again United Healthcare said they never filed that claim. Plum Creek never billed physically or said anything until over a decade and a half later. As such I assumed they actually filed with the insurance and went on. Now, after thousands and thousands of dollars spent in their office I was told I had a $250 balance from 16 years ago. This is after multiple general and specialized care visits, root canals, deep cleanings, crowns, and veneers. Now they pop up and tell me there is a 16 year old $250 balance. Then they had the audacity to "discharge" me from their practice as if I would ever return after that level of ineptitude. The office staff is demeaning, crude, and apparently cannot file insurance. This was regular not Medicaid insurance. The staff talked down to me, was the rudest set of individuals I've ever seen in a purportedly professional setting. They are crude, insensitive, and overall unable to do their basest duties. This is again after my family has spent thousands of dollars in their office I'm hit with attitude and contempt. To top it all off I'm told I'm no longer welcome at their practice as if I'd think about returning after that fiasco. Sixteen years later. One is left to wonder where this supposed debt was all these years. I still live at the same address, have brought my family there for years and suddenly whammo! Please be warned the office staff is incompetent, ruder than life, and plain ignorant to come at someone 16 years later over a bill they could not manage to file with an actual insurance company. Keep your family, your wallet, and your credit safe and avoid these ignorant people like the plague. I'm not stopping with Yelp. I will make sure everyone in Lockhart and online knows the level of ignorance, crudeness, and hostility that office has to offer. In addition, I'll be contacting an attorney as they have been holding onto a "debt" for 16 years.
