Europe 2023 - Scotland…read more Fantastic Hotel! The room was large and the bed super comfortable. The service was excellent. There is also a restaurant onsite too.

You are wise to be suspicious of reviews as some are fabricated. This one is not. We have the…read morereceipts and expenses to prove it. We were shown to a small room at the very end of the hotel with a view of a parking lot and adjacent building. Nothing of the "captivating views as standard" claimed in their brochure. The room had hair in the sink, stains on the carpet, crumbs and general disarray, and was well-worn. Not the calibre of a 5-Star hotel. We asked for second room, this one had been recently cleaned. Once in, we realized the carpet was wet with cleaning solution. The Desk Mgr slipped and almost fell in the room. We were told to wear slippers to avoid the wet. We asked for a third room. The hotel is virtually empty. This room was acceptable but by now, we were exasperated and tired. This process, full of confusion and missteps, had taken over 2 hours. We decided to leave the hotel the following morning and short-shift our two day booking. We wanted to go back to Glasgow and the Hilton where we had been treated royally. For dinner, the hotel offered us two glasses of wine as compensation for our inconvenience. The dinner was adequate but not what we expected of a celebrated chef. We discovered later that evening that they had no intention of refunding us for the second night. They intended to keep the full cost of the two-night booking despite our departure after only one night. We disputed but they refused to relent. We asked Expedia to intervene. To Expedia's credit, they did and were told the same thing. NO REFUND. This entire experience has left shaken, exploited, and questioning the 5-Star rating. We wish you a better experience than we had. Scotland is a beautiful country.

We brought our two lovely greyhounds with us and I was so impressed that the staff and hotel was truly dog friendly, they were allowed in the lounge area and the quirky ewe bar both places serving food. We ate here both evenings and meals were excellent especially their fish and chips which was fresh, super tasty and delicious. Deserts were a little disappointing but a good effort as all homemade. The wine list is neat, well thought out, with some excellent choices from small producers and as a bonus without the huge mark on price! Their house champagne tasted exceptional and even better in the sunshine sitting in the garden. Breakfast on both mornings was very enjoyable with a great choice and staff and chefs happy to accommodate requests. The superior double room was very nice, spacious yet cosy and overlooked the tree lined hills, we even had a decanter of whiskey and proper coffee with a mini cafetière- heaven ;) Would highly recommend this place for a wee break away -for peace and quiet and relaxation. Just check in.

Wonderful country house hotel in beautiful secluded location in Glen Lyon, Perthshire…read more Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it's so worth it. Warm, relaxing atmosphere, comfortable beds, lovely decor and top notch food. The house itself is an integral part of an original Arts and Crafts model village and thus sits well and aesthetically in its surroundings. Even offers huntin', shootin' and fishin' for them as likes that sort of thing, and we were intrigued by the information section on 'arriving by helicopter'! The area's steeped in history too, with Neolithic and reputedly Roman remains nearby, and the famous Fortingall Yew (thought to be around 5000 years old) in the churchyard next to the hotel. Dying to go back there some day.

But while I appreciate its age, there are some limits to what I will accept as a quirk in an old building. Our room was located just above the kitchen. The kitchen fan, which sounds very much like a jet engine, came on in the early morning and was not switched off until late into the night. This is not a quirk. This is a true annoyance. This kept us from sleeping well. The front desk staff promised us the chef turned it off by 9pm but we assured her that was not the case. We couldn't keep our windows open while the fan was running esp at night when we wanted to get some sleep, but we couldn't close the windows because of the heat. Fortunately we only stayed two nights. I don't think this room should be a bedroom. It should be a storage room or something else. Anyone who stays in this room will post a negative review. The room was obviously a twin bed room in which they pushed the beds together to make a king bed. The twin headboards nailed to the wall told me that. It was a rather large and spacious room and the bathroom was recently remodeled with a modern design. There are a few oddities with the bathroom - - the faucet was installed too close to the edge of the sink so you end up splashing water on the counter - the shower doors have a gap where water leaks onto the floor - there are no shelves in the shower to put soap and shampoo on so you have to put it all on the floor - there are no hooks or towel bars anywhere - the overhead light is switched on using a string hanging from the ceiling I have the impression that it's not quite finished. The actual bedroom was nice enough with plenty of space, a desk and storage. It would've been fine if the kitchen fan wasn't running nearly nonstop. The hotel itself is in a great location right by the river but if I ever return, I will ask for a different room. I also have to add that the restaurant staff are wonderful. I have a dairy allergy and they were very helpful with navigating the menu choices available to me. WiFi in this hotel was pretty non-existent in our room. The best place to get WiFi is in the lounge next to the piano. When we were there, the ceiling in the bar had a leak from the rains but fortunately, we were still able to order drinks.

The Kenmore Hotel is purported to be the oldest hotel in Scotland having been built in 1572. But…read moredon't worry- this old lady has been updated many times through the years and really is quite lovely. From the moment you pull up in this quaint village with the lake on one side and the river on the other, you notice just how quiet it is. After all- this is the country. The hotel is a bit of a hodge podge with new and old sections so you may need a map to find your room. Mine was up under the eves in the old section of the hotel requiring a few stairs and an elevator to get me there. But once there- the room was functional with coffee (instant), a decent bathroom (they are all different) and a comfortable bed. The Internet is free but doesn't really work in the rooms (at least not in the one that I had) so you are best to sit in the common room downstairs if you need to go on line. There is a small bar on the main floor- or you can go out back into the newer section of the hotel to the beer garden. I liked sitting out front with my beer talking to the locals and enjoying the beautiful weather and views. Breakfast is included in your room cost and they have quite the breakfast buffet available with hot and cold items. I also ate at the restaurant one night and the food was quite good- very fresh and perfectly prepared. There are stories about this hotel that say that the rooms are haunted. But on this visit, my sleep was uninterrupted by anything out of the ordinary. Maybe there are just some past guests who just never wanted to check out! If you are looking for a getaway in the country- look no further. For the Kenmore Hotel will take good care of you no matter how long you plan to stay.
