From the entrance you walk down a staircase lined with posters for various cover bands like Bob Dylan and the Beatles. The space downstairs is large but broken into 4 or 5 rooms. The night we were in an Italian blues band was playing and it seemed like everyone seated had gotten there early enough for spots. It's hard to see the band from the side rooms so we stood in front of the bar. This place got packed and if we had moved we would have definitely lost our spot. Drinks are on the pricey side and it got super hot with all the people but this was a great time. Everyone was having lots of fun and it gives you a glimpse into an underground Italian live music venue!

You have to make a reservation, as this is a private club. How intriguing! The club opens at 9:00 PM and closes at 4:00 AM. So, we made a reservation for a Sunday evening. It is located down a dimly lit street off the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II - adding more to the intrigue. There is really no signage except on the door there is a brass plaque that says "Prof. Jerry Thomas." You ring the bell, the door is answered, you give your name and the password (Yes, there is a password to get in), and you are admitted to the club. There is a €5 per person annual membership fee. We were warmly greeted by Roberto and seated at a comfortable table. This speakeasy held about 25 people, with two bartenders mixing drinks. Euro and Roberto saw to our every need and were excellent! When my husband asked if they had rye whisky on the bar, Roberto suggested he go to the bar and look. They had probably 14 different bottles of rye, but none from Maryland. When he asked for a rye Manhattan, Roberto brought over a bottle of their "house" rye, which was made especially for them. After he mentioned that if his Manhattan was made using their house rye, the cost would be €40. My husband quickly declined and opted for a regular rye Manhattan for €15! I am not much of drinker, so they made me an Amaretto. Both were served on the rocks, except this time, each had one huge ice cube - we had never seen such large cubes before. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Speakeasy and told Roberto we would be back again. It was such an interesting, fun and enjoyable concept.

They are located just off the Piazza Spagna, on the Via del Due Macelli. The theater is very intimate, seating only several hundred patrons. The production couldn't have been better! All the principal singers were wonderful. The scenes were filled with very talented auxileries, and the dancers were great. I couldn't believe how many musicians they fit into orchestra, and the sound was equal to any other I've heard. The Teatro Salone Margherita was apparently opened around 1890 to be a dinner theater. For those willing to pay, they offer table service in the boxes and upstairs. Downstairs, the tickets included a buffet of pasta and rice salad that wasn't fancy, but was very filling. They also offer a full bar, and gellato at intermission. The drinks were reasonable, the gellato wildly overpriced. There are 3 classes of downstairs tickets, depending on how close you want to be to the stage. We paid for the center section, but found that in the front part of the back section, on either side are seats that have a small table and unobstructed view of the stage. The next time we go, I'll save the price of my drinks by paying for the cheaper seats and sitting there again.
