This restaurant used to be our favourite but something has happened to the menu and all the beautiful dishes are gone. Now you can get only order pizza or gnocchi. I don't know if they are under new management of if they lost their chef. Staff is friendly and setting is cozy and nice...just a VERY limited menu. This pizza place used to be the best back in its day. Not any more! Pizza was one of the worst I have ever had. The topping only covered half the base. There was a total of 6 tiny pieces of sausage on it and way too much potato (the cheap component). Staff were super friendly but this, unfortunately, doesn't make up for poor food. Friends warned me the place had gone off but I was hoping it was a one off bad meal. Won't be going back ever. read more

Locale is Canberra's little gem at the Deakin shops serving great Italian. A site that has seen a number of restaurants come and go, however this time it will be a perfect case of arrive, settle and excel. A good design and quality fit out adds to the real vibe when you dine here. And with the weather warming dining outside will have even greater appeal. The dining options are the antipasta, pasta, pizza and of course, a range of other fine dishes including the nightly specials. We have had multiple visits now and everything has been good. Ever visit has got better and better as you would expect for a "newbe" which has high expectations and standards. The pizzas we have had have been exceptional and be sure to not miss the detail. There are various pizza bases. Love this option making for that much more variety. We have enjoyed many pizzas; it is the pizzas that are the 'scene setters' for us. The standouts have been the Folletto with its buffalo mozzarella, Italian sausages, mushrooms and so on, the Gameri Zucchine with king prawns, cherry tomatoes, chilli, of course zucchini and more ..... And beyond the pizzas we have also enjoyed the pasta specials, on the night we visited it was cannelloni and beyond the pastas, the calamari is pretty special. A good wine list compliments the menu ... and an added nicety is that good local wines that available. There is energy and enthusiasm amongst all those who work in this busy atmosphere. The passion and care that Franky P brings to the front of house is a joy to experience and is a standout. HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE?? I was introduced to this place by an Italian who otherwise refuses to buy pizza in Canberra. This should be an indicator of the quality of food. While I am generally wheat free I made an exception to try the base and oh my goodness... So delicious. Light and just the right ratio of crusty to soft. Unlike pizzas from other places, the toppings are as they should be- moderated, and tasty due to the quality of ingredients. The gluten free base is quinoa base and a really nice consistency. The decor is relaxed, gorgeous, with nice tunes and ambient lighting. Friendly staff who are social and engaging complete the setting. Good wine range with prices from around $11 for most. Service atrocious! We were in restaurant 1 hour to be told they forgot our order. Ordered two pizzas and waited 45 minutes only to find out the order was lost. Ordered drinks 4 times before delivered. The restaurant was full and clearly not capable of keeping up adequate service. Very disappointing. read more

Very poor service. As an American, I am used to relatively poor service in Australia, however, I have never received service this poor. Our food was ice cold by the time our companions food arrived ten minutes after the face, as well as after the requested chili and Parmesan arrived several minutes after that. The food was decent but we chose not to order any more wine or dessert. I'm very ashamed and angry I wasted nearly $200 for a subpar experience on dinner for three. read more

If you are thinking "0h just another pizza place" then think again. Firstly, the pizzas are anything but ordinary but they're not wanky either. They are simply cooked well with a delicious base. The beer and wine menu is rather focused on Italy but hey, isn't that why you are there? Atmosphere is great, if not a little noisy, and the staff are chipper and fast. read more

A disappointing and expensive takeaway It is pleasing that locale has changed its takeaway pizza to a timed pick-up service so guests do not have to wait in the small and busy Deakin location. Unfortunately the pizza is a let down. My family had the folletto and the gamberi. Both where saturated in grease, sparsely topped and lacked any distinct flavour. These are not 'artisanal' pizzas. They are an exercise in badly done cost cutting. Will not be ordering again read more

Reasonably tasty food. Shocking service. Took 40 minutes order to delivery for a table of 9. Last meal came out 10 minutes after that.

Great atmosphere, great food, great staff. Frankie buzzes around keeping the customers happy while the team cook in the open kitchen. Never had a bad experience at Locale. read more

Had a fab meal here tonight staff very attentive it was for a party and the banquet was set so didn't chose our own. My favourite was a antipasto the assorted of nibbles were on point. Lovely location and easy parking, I will however go for a run before hand next time so I could of had room for desert.. l read more
