They appear to have recently obtained the space next to them and are making it into a small dining area, but other than that it really is more of a walk up take away place. No worries though, awesome pizzas made quickly and easy to grab on the way home if just passing by. Pizzas are also all priced reasonable for what you're getting. They have a a selection of pizzas on their menu that are a wide arrangement of unique combinations of sauces, cheese and toppings, or you can just create your own masterpiece by selecting ingredients and toppings from the large selection from the "bar". A cool concept that you can see exactly what all the ingredients and toppings look like and just pick and choose what you want for you pizza.. I've tried several different ones so far, with the Vietnamese Chili Chicken being my favorite. Highly recommend you stopping by and trying one out. Hard to believe that you would be disappointed.

In a city increasingly saturated with Italian-style pizza, including a few different restaurants with proper wood-fired brick ovens, Department of Pizza stands out. Our favorites are the four cheese and basil pesto pizzas. Such wonderfully balanced flavors. On occasion I'll go for the spicy salami and olive which is very salty, but appropriately so given the ingredients. The wine list is solid, too. Department of Pizza introduced me to my new favorite Chianti, from the world-famous Antinori -- it's an amazing wine. And the desserts! I've never been a big fan of tiramisu, but then I had Department of Pizza's tiramisu -- I'm forever changed! Perfect balance of coffee and sweetness, and soft cake. Wonderful. The cannolis are also delicious. Had the Nutella calzone once, it's way too large, but also delicious. If I had one criticism it's the appetizers, which primarily feature flatbreads. There were two great pizzas and as good as you can get in Canberra. The deserts are excellent, try the home make tiramisu and chocolate brownie with ice cream...... Service is volatile .... sometimes it is nearly 'self service' and on other occasions it can be excellent.... The joint is comfortably furnished and except during winter you can sit out side under the stars.....this really makes for pleasant dining particularly in summer. The pizzas are really great, and so to the home made deserts ............. it is wholesome and 'happy' food at a good price.

The decor when you enter is kitsch, with fake vegetables and chillies hanging on the wall. You're always greeted warmly by the wait staff or manager, and even on the busiest night they still manage to find you a table. They're attentive and polite, bringing water and menus very quickly. The menu isn't very big, but they have a lot of Italian favorites featured, like bruschetta, Italian pizza, pasta and salads. The food is very generously portioned, and seasoned nicely. I recommend trying the mushroom pasta and mussels in tomato sauce. Both are just divine. We always end up coming back with friends, family and the kids. Everyone loves this place.
