I took a friend here for Lunch on 14/4/2026 and i told her that they did the best curry puffs and spring rolls, we were looking forward to the lunch until I saw that the curry puffs had changed to spring roll wrappers and not the pastry like they used to do. We ate them but they weren't the same and nor could I taste the curry in them. The spring rolls were still good. We also had steam pork dumplings which were delicious and 3 bbq pork buns, I don't know what they did to the filling but it wasn't nice at all, we also received 2 fried pork dumplings which which were ok. We took home the remainder of the steamed dumplings and we left the last Bbq pork bun. I left my sunnies and picked them up the next day and told them how disappointing the food was. With the undressed facade through to the basic arrangement of chairs and tables inside, the initial impression of the Dickson Dumpling House -- DDH -- would elude you to the prejudice of inferiority. However, stepped passed this prejudice, the experience, the food and the overall value for money is Heckin' Good. The DDH should be bookmarked in your Yelp account, if it isn't already, and be visited often to satisfy your embedded desire for dumplings. But first, facts. I claimed all of these things, yet provided no evidence. And to that my only reply would be 'Trust me.' Firstly, because this is an online review, where no matter how hard you would caress this screen with your tongue it would provide you with no extra information to prove my facts than by reading it. And secondly, because reading the reviews of the other Yelpers would convincingly indicate that this place does serve good food. When this many people indicate that this place is good there are ever only two explanations, it's either a well organised scam or it's the truth. And we would all indicate to the latter. I hope by now you can sense that this review is a bit of a jest about the truth about DDH. Simply put, everything is Heckin' Good. The dumplings are, for me, perfect. The noodle dishes are prepared so authentically that I feel like my stomach consciously turns off its ability to feel pain and fullness. And the price that you pay to enjoy all of what I've mentioned is amazingly fair. The DDH is a fair contender for being one of the best dumpling places in Canberra, relatively. Of course you could pay twice more for half the amount at another -- fancier -- restaurant, but if you're just wanting to satisfy your dumpling cravings and do it to a level where you're so incredibly full that you're borderline vomiting and not break the bank this is definitely the place. read more

Just moved down from Sydney, don't know the area or the requirements but we saw this place in passing 2 nights ago and thought we'd give it a try tonight. Other than standing about 5 minutes before we were approached, the waiter who did eventually approached us asked if we had a booking.... The place was 2/3rds empty and it was 6:15pm. We had to book? There were no "reserved" signs on the table so from a customers perspective there were available tables. Had absolutely no idea that was a requirement considering we've been eating at places in Dickson for the week we've lived in Canberra and this is the ONLY establishment that had told us we need to book! But as we hadn't booked we weren't going to be seated or served. I honestly couldn't care _how_ good the food is or isn't. The fact we are new here and walked in to have that sort of approach? Fuck off. Every other establishment in the street in the immediate street we have been approached and seated without any issue or concern has been pleasant. There are far friendlier and accommodating businesses here than you. There's other dumpling places too like the Canberra centre area so don't think were going to be at a loss for further dumpling options. So first impression? Not returning here - sorry but first and last time we walk through the door and it only gives me the minimum option of a 1-star. I wouldn't have given you any. Getting our order straight was a bit difficult, but our dishes came out quickly and were for the most part very good. Caveat: I wouldn't get the golden soft shell crab again. It's more like Kentucky Fried Crab! But perfect if you're in the mood for salt & fat, like after hitting the booze or something. But seriously do not order it. Way too much salt, my lips are burning. Ruined a good crab. Pity. But the scallops in XO sauce were great and the prawn & pumpkin dumplings are delectable. Yum. It's really noisy and boisterous. Not a place for a quiet chat. Dickson Dumpling House has been in Dickson for a few years now and is strictly a Chinese restaurant. Compared to some of the more expensive Chinese restaurants round the corner (such as 4 Rivers), I find the dumpling house less pretentious, more comfortable and casual to dine in. Food: Dumpling house has quite an extensive menu, with the right focus on their namesake: dumplings. There's approximately a page worth of regular dumplings that they make (I recommend the Shanghai Buns, which is also known as Xiao Long Bao, dumplings with "soup" on the inside). There' are also more choices on the specials board and if you ask them. The entree/mains menus are also pretty good and varied. My favourites usually lies in their handmade noodles, which can vary from cook to cook, and theirs is about as tasty as it comes. Their Stir fry Duck with hand made noodles is awesome, fragrant and with generous helpings of duck. Again, I also recommend looking at their specials board. They have a good choice of seafood on their special boards regularly (amongst other things). If you see it, don't forget to grab the Rock salt and pepper soft shell grab (or golden soft shell crab) as it is not to be missed. Service: Prompt, efficient - not extremely friendly, more business-like, but I don't have qualms with that since the food at this place is usually what I come for. I do LOVE their tip jar though, it's this cute cat swiping at coins hahahaha Atmosphere: laid back, casual with, usually, some old english or chinese ballads playing in the background. I went to the Dumpling House for dumplings, assuming that since it's the name, it's probably their specialty. I was not disappointed! I tried three different items on my visit--steamed BBQ pork buns, fried pumpkin and prawn dumplings, and xiao long bao (I can't remember if they called them soup dumplings or shanghai dumplings or something like that). Everything was excellent! The BBQ pork buns were insanely huge. I think I laughed when I saw them. One order was 3 buns, each one was about the size of a large orange. The xiao long bao were tasty and soupy. The pumpkin/prawn dumplings were really delicious. The serving sizes were all generous. I will definitely be going back whenever I'm in the mood for dumplings! read more

Unpretentious place with quite possibly the smallest dumplings I have seen in my life. The pork dumplings were unimpressive, but the pumpkin and prawn dumplings were unbelievable!! The ever present crowds here are a testament to the quality dumplings and delicious stir fry available here. I ordered 14 chicken dumplings on Saturday night, and were it not for my partner snatching some, I would have eaten them all myself! However, definitely make a reservation if you're coming after 6pm (or just order take away--they're shockingly efficient here), and always bring cash, because sometimes even two dumpling dishes won't get you to the ridiculous $30 EFTPOS minimum. The two of us came to $25 even, and although the lady up front was willing to let us pay from savings only, but she acted like she was doing us a big favor. The noise levels here can get a bit crazy, too, mostly because it's so family friendly and the kitchen is so large, but it's worth it for the food. I really enjoy coming here. It's one of my go-to places when taking friends out. The food is consistently yummy. It's a loud venue and the staff can be brusque but I put that aside in favor of the fact their food is good is consistent. The decor is unassuming and there isn't anything pretentious about this venue. I highly recommend trying the dried chili beef dish. It has great flavors and textures. Be prepared to get a little messy. People have raved about the pumpin and prawn dumplings, I find them lacking in flavor. For dessert the custard buns are lovely. If you are going at a peak time be sure to make a booking. read more

Excellent dumplings. Shame they have a $30 minimum EFTPOS (!). Worse still, when I raised my eyebrows a little at the size of the minimum purchase the staff member asked me "What's your problem?!". I said I was surprised to see such a big minimum these days and she went on to claim that she was sorry but "we are tied into a really old contract". If that fee is stipulated by the merchant services contract I would be very interested to see it, but I suspect it is just regular gouging. Do not go to this restaurant if you want nice Chinese food and/or good service. The menu just lists the names of the dishes without an explanation. As a result most of what we ordered was deep fried and incredibly oily. The dumplings were the only exception but even they were nothing to rave about. Each dish was brought out with a long wait in between the next. And after all dishes were brought out we had a very long wait for our fried rice as did the table next to us! Dumplings were very small and oily and over-priced. One of our party ordered a tea which he never received. In the bill he was charged for a beer which he never ordered or received. When he complained they refunded only the cost of the missing tea! Would not return; go to Sammy's instead. read more
