The food and service exceeded my expectations, it was a wonderful evening. We received extra dishes, hot sake, and a very nice small birthday cake. I believe that many elements of the food are made on-site. I have been to many Japanese restaurants around the world, this is one of the best that I have been into. I even got to briefly chat the owner. I highly recommend this great restaurant.

Been a repeating customer at Iori's for the last 9 years. Extensive menu covers everything from Sashimi, sushi to Wagyu beef cooked just right on a hot plate. Recommended: Lunch: Tasmanian Don - Salmon cooked in every single way possible, inclusive of roe, topped on a huge mountain of rice with soup. Dinner: Wagyu beef with the house mustard sauce (not quite sure what the full name is). Beautifully marbled steak, thinly sliced and comes in a set with seaweed salad, soup and rice. Also offers a variety of sake although I normally just head for ramune ( Japnese lemonade that tastes like a light version of Pink lemonade) for the fun factor. Service: Very attentive, efficient and professional. Might seem distant to some people, but I appreciate that this is part of the japanese hospitality culture. Also, if you sit at the sushi bar, you get to watch them cook. Sometimes, the chef would hand out some freebies that they have cooked on the spot for you to try that's not part of the menu :) Boss is friendly, as is a couple of cooks/waiters when they have gotten past being shy. Atmosphere: Casual dining, good for catching up with friends in small groups of 4 or for 1 large gathering within the "enclose" dining area. Conclusion: I have loved Iori for a long time. It's a fantastic place for food, appreciating japanese food and for gathering with friends. However, as with any place in Canberra, it can be pricey and if you compare it with the food from the Asian region, it's not something massively different from places in Sydney. However, I will venture to say, the service and the familiarity with the Boss-san is something you can't really get anywhere else, except in a small town like ours :)

Food wise I definitely over ordered but that was mostly because I could not narrow down what I wanted. I went alone and sat at the bar. I ordered 1 wagyu cheesesteak spring roll, one jalapeño noodle popper, 2 honey chicken bao buns, and a side of the yakimeshi fried rice. The apps came out almost immediately along with the Seoul sister cocktail. The bao buns and fried rice too a bit longer but the waiter made sure to check in with me and let me know that he would check on my order without me asking him too. The apps were delicious along with this sauces. The bao buns were also really good, just a bit messy to eat. The fried rice was so damn good but at this point I was so full that I got a take away box and am hoping to heat up the rest tomorrow! Overall great experience and hoping I can come again and do the taster menu they offer!

The highlights for me was the wagyu cheesesteak spring-roll and the tea smoked duck pancakes. The atmosphere was great with attentive waiters, who were amazing in explaining each of the dishes that came out. Full review: purplecuriosity.wordpress.com/2021/01/05/lazy-su/

Well, progress seems to have been achieved, following the review from Paul in 2016. My experience…read morefrom Hero Sushi has been fantastic. The food was delightful, the price was fair and, most importantly, the service was sublime. I'm certain that there was truth in what Paul said four years ago, but from what I could gather from todays experience, and the other 4 times I've been in the last few months, Hero Sushi has seemingly gone from a 'stay away' restaurant to 'a place to stay' restaurant. First, let's talk about the food. Every time I have come to this sushi train I have been extravagantly impressed by its food's quality. From the seafood through to its deep fried selections, all of their dishes seemed to be incredibly fresh or freshly prepared. They'd have on the train many different selections such as salmon, eel, wagyu beef, and prawns, but this selection would vary depending on whether you visited during peak or off-peak hours in the week. I would confidently say that from their entire lineup, there would only be one or two dishes which, in my opinion, was not worth the $3.50, and that would be the calamari rings. Then again, though, I assume they'd use that dish as a 'buffer' for some of the other, more expensive, items on the train. And secondly, which was the main reason for writing this review, the service. From what Paul mentioned, the service he experienced 4 years ago was appalling. Now, from this particular experience I can confidently say that they've either realised their mistakes and have changed their ways, or that Paul just caught them on a very bad day. Either way, the service at Hero Sushi -- now -- is fantastic, where the staff would greet people warmly and kindly as they made their way into the restaurant to sit and enjoy some nice Japanese cuisine. Overall, let me say that this sushi train is no longer the worst. Whether you're after some quick eats or a feast, Hero Sushi is your local hero of sushi.

This would have to be the worst Sushi train in Canberra. Hopefully the other Hero Sushi venues at…read moreTuggeranong and Woden are better for service. The food product looked and tasted great. What's wrong was the service? Don't be deceived by its flashy appearance. On two occasions I visited over the weekend I was totally ignored by staff. I had to ask the boy sweeping the floor to be served. I again had to ask for water and where was the meal I had ordered. No traditional Japanese welcome here. The staff acted totally disinterested and if you wanted anything, be prepared to wait. Hero Sushi in Sydney is very attentive and polite. Disappointed with the staff attitude here so much that on my last visit I got up and walked out and told them that the place had a problem with service. There was no service recovery attempted. Don't be bothered to go here!
