Definitely new since I left home. I was interested. Ambiance was wonderful. A good amount of seating with each sitting spot feelings mildly secluded, which is nice. No one wants their coffee shop gossip being overheard. And when you walk in, you're first greeted with that classic glass case of available pastries and goodies. It was hard to not just order one of each item. Service was nice. It was counter service, and they bring your order right to your table. Can't ask for better service than that. Nice folks, good small talk. And the food, it was delightful. We got a couple of fancy coffee drinks, which were well-flavored, not too sweet, and the iced one was presented in a mason jar. Classic. We also shared like four food items. The pull-apart monkey bread was sweet and dense and delicious. Don't order this if you're alone. You'll need help to finish it. Got a creme filled pull pastry thing. That was nice. Flakes for days. This was no rough puff. For the chocolate croissant, also known as a pain au chocolat. Again, very flakey, very buttery, the perfect touch of sweet chocolate. And a savory, massive scone. Bacon and chives, I think. Also very good. Crumbly. Overall, I was very surprised. There certainly wasn't anywhere like this in Pensacola when I lived here. This place is a quality bakery that could easily be found in a medium-sized city. I was so pleased and will definitely come back.

Very nice. And the pastries themselves were very high quality. Flakey, not dry, well filled, of a good size. Definitely a high point. Cons: No real cons. I didn't have enough stomach space to try everything I wanted. Lol. Tips: The chocolate croissant and the creme filled thing we got were delicious. The scone was also good, but maybe less good than other things we left on the table. Need to come back here!

I simply ordered cookies and cupcakes and had to change my order. I had to call back three times because the person (guessing the owner) was not there?? I would think a teenager in high school could take an order change. I just got off the phone with the business development manager making excuses and eventually yelling at me. Unbelievable. Been going here for 30 years and will never go back because of that human and the lack of customer service. J's bakery used to be a wonderful place with nice people who worked there.

Cafe Single Fin: Great Concept, Average Plate…read more Cafe Single Fin is one of those places where the experience starts before you even find the restaurant. I drove around the block several times looking for it. Turns out, the restaurant is tucked inside a surf and skateboard shop. Once I finally figured that out, I walked in and immediately knew this wasn't going to be your average Pensacola lunch. The cafe is basically the centerpiece of the shop, surrounded by some seriously interesting vibes. I was greeted by scream-o music, which eventually segued into coffeehouse music and then some lighter indie stuff. Quite the musical journey. I half expected the playlist to ask me to pick a lane. What drew me in was the menu. Clean, interesting and exactly the kind of thing that makes you think, OK, these people might be onto something. I went with the blackened mahi tacos with rice and beans. And this is where things got a little less interesting. The food was fresh. The presentation was nice. Unfortunately, the flavor never really showed up for work. The mahi was supposed to be blackened, but I'm not convinced the blackening seasoning actually made it from the kitchen to the plate. The beans were also undercooked and under-seasoned. Nothing was bad, exactly. It just lacked the punch that the menu had promised. And that's the frustrating part. There is clearly a cool concept here, and the menu has enough personality to make you expect something memorable. The plate just didn't deliver the same energy as the room. Maybe I'm simply outside the target demographic. There seemed to be a pretty strong twenty-something surf/skate crowd, and perhaps I'm just not fluent in the culinary dialect of that demographic yet. Interesting place. Interesting concept. Interesting vibes. Friendly/helpful staff. Pretty average food.

My go-to is the vegan Costa wrap. It is 10 out of 10, packed with protein, the melted vegan cheese is actually good, the burrito is seared and crunchy, and the salsa is perfect. The vegan pastries and desserts are phenomenal as well. I highly recommend the s'mores cupcake or the banana bread. They also have tasty smoothies. The pumpkin spice latte with oat milk or a vanilla iced latte is also great. The staff is very friendly and personable, making it a great place to sit and get work done. With a skate park, surfboards, shoes, clothing, and other goodies for sale, there is so much to explore. I highly recommend checking it out!

Best bagel in Pensacola. Full stop…read more If you are along the water and looking for a breakfast spot, then Bagelheads may be your jam. Bagels and pastries of so many kinds plus phenomenal breakfast sandwiches and so much more. Almost everyone loves a good bagel, and they even have some gluten-free options (with some qualifiers). You can get a number of cream cheese options or other toppings, and their lox has that phenomenal smoked flavor. The Lox Works, complete with cream cheese & capers, can be done on your choice of bagel. In fact, any of the breakfast sandwiches can be done how you want it, and there are literally a million combinations. There's plenty of seating inside & even outside, so you can enjoy the view of the placid gulf as it laps up to Pensacola Beach while enjoying your breakfast. Bagelheads even offers their own roast coffee blend, called 'Mac Daddy', and it's a very robust cup of coffee. Self-serve coffee runs you $3.50 & you can get a dozen assorted bagels to go for $20, which will make whomever you bestow them upon very happy. You can even drive-through! Great local small business with an outstanding offering, great service, and a great brand.

Exposed, real old brick that's from god knows when. Lots of copper old fashion coffee roasters. Bespoke bar. I dig the vibe and haven't even tried the patio yet. The Irish latte was delish. The whipped baileys cream on top delightful. My husband had the French 75 which was mildly citrus in such a pleasant way. Zero burn or bitterness for a straight black coffee beverage which impressed me! We had an omelette and the blueberry muffin. Omelette was tasty, fresh, hot and had ample cheese and ham. I liked the Dijon topped on. The muffin was really extra. It was large and it was covered in coffee cake sugar kind of crumble. Really big, generous serving of blueberries. It was super moist. Hate to add to the hype of this place because I admit, theres already a line out the door, but I only just recently discovered it after being here nearly a year. It's a wonderful Find and I'm already planning to make it one of my regular stops.

Can someone please explain why Florida gets all the fun bakeries?!…read more My father-in-law surprised Jason with a birthday cake from Smallcakes after it came highly recommended, and now I completely understand why. Jason's grandparents have enjoyed their cupcakes before, so expectations were already pretty high... and somehow they still managed to exceed them. Jason requested a carrot cake for his birthday, and all his dad told Smallcakes was, "Carrot cake, golf theme." Smallcakes absolutely understood the assignment. This cake was GORGEOUS. Every little golf detail was so thoughtfully done, and it looked almost too good to eat! Seriously the sandpit and grass... just wow. (Keyword: almost.) Now let's talk about the icing... because I genuinely have not stopped thinking about it. Im SO picky with icing, I would happily eat it straight from the container with absolutely zero shame. It was rich without being overly sweet, perfectly smooth, and somehow managed to make an already incredible carrot cake even better. Every bite was moist, flavorful, and downright dangerous. (Side note pull out of fridge a little before eating). We're honestly a little heartbroken we're only visiting because I had every intention of trying half the cupcake display too. Unfortunately, we still have a mountain of birthday cake left. ...Then again, challenge accepted. If you're anywhere near Pensacola and need a cake for a birthday, celebration, or just because it's Tuesday and life is hard (which would be me at least 2x a week) do yourself a favor and stop by Smallcakes. Our birthday boy couldn't have asked for a more perfect cake!
