a band performing on stage

I love the Local 506! There's a great pizza place next to it, and whenever me and my friends and I see a show here, we stop next door and grab pizza and have some before the show. Local 506 is a very low-key spot. They have drinks and a few seats. The stage is a good height, and you can see everything on the stage pretty well. I really like how intimate the space is, I always get to speak with the musicians after the show, which is awesome. Can't wait to go to another show here.

really fun and best venue I've been to yet. Show was sold out so it was packed but I got there early and managed to snag a seat.

Saw Moonwalker here, loved the vibe!! Free water was an insanely nice perk, all the staff were super nice, and I had an INCREDIBLE time!! Seems like a Speer cool hangout spot, wish I didn't live over an hour away

Amazing Chapel Hill spot! Lovely place to appreciate live music in an intimate setting. Staff and bartender are super friendly, and artists (at least ones I've seen) are always accessible and happy to interact with fans, or are otherwise polite. Despite the casual ambience, the space is clean and amazing to look around, with eclectic artwork and funky lighting. The concert space is mostly standing room, with padded benches and tables around the perimeter. Definitely worth a visit in town, and a dedicated checking for favorite bands if local to CH!

Local 506 is a GREAT little spot for local indy rock acts out in Chapel Hill. Dark, small and a bit mysterious, it pulls in a young, mixed crowd looking for good music. You'll definitely see quite a few beards and plaid shirts here. Drinks are reasonably priced, they've got seating around the edge of the main room and acoustics are really solid. They play it loud here, but I've rarely heard any distortion or feedback, kudos to their sound man. Let's just say that you can do far worse than Local 506 for some live music. Smaller than the Pourhouse but just about as cool, Local 506 rocks it hard. Pass me over a PBR...

Membership kinda stinks the first time you go, but blame the lovely NC Legislators for that one.

This is a cool spot for live djs and music. It's kind of hidden, dark, covered with stickers, art,…read moreand vintage stuff, the way I like it. I think it's for a younger, more underground-savvy crowd. If you just want basic top 40, go elsewhere. I saw some local hiphop acts perform live. I knew none of them, but it was a good time. Sound system and subwoofers are powerful, fyi. Plenty of bass. Full bar, but indie, so don't expect every brand of everything. It seems they close once the live performances are over, even if that is 12am rather than 2am. Understandable, as it's an event-focused space, not just a bar. The one thing I saw here that I've never seen before, is that many of the live hiphop acts were singing/rapping over music that already had singing/rapping in it. Idk if they were rapping over other people's tracks, and that's just a Thing People Do that I didn't know about, or if they were rapping over their own tracks. But I would just think that as a young local performer, you'd want to sing or rap over instrumental tracks so we can hear You and You alone.

More than anywhere else in the area, this venue makes bold, daring choices to bring in a diverse…read moremix of talented musical acts. And the atmosphere is very relaxed... reminds me of going to an unimaginably good old-school 'basement-show' where all the bands sound great, everyone else is cool, and the keg never runs dry. Sure, not every show will appeal to every taste (for example, I avoid their occasional D.J. dance party nights). My advice is to check their website or the Independent (which often selects shows at the Nightlight as one of their weekly 'picks') and read the description. If it sounds intriguing, make your way down the little alley next to Fuse restaurant and check it out. And if you like what you hear, buy the CD (bands need love).
