The Lobster Shack was just a short drive away from the blowhole and our lunch destination in Bicheno.
A dedicated parking area was on top and could fit at least half a dozen cars in the unmarked spaces. If full then there were spots available in the harbor parking lot.
It was quite a big restaurant overlooking the harbor with lots of outdoor table seating and a smaller indoor area. Sitting outdoors we could watch the glass bottom boat circling the harbor and a fishing boat unloading its catch of lobsters (maybe for the Lobster Shack?).
Inside, ordering took place by the gift shop and they issued pagers. Pickup happened in the back of the restaurant next to the bar.
Our order was ready in less than 15 minutes.
I got the lobster roll which really was a small bun that was a bit of a mess with mayo already oozing outside the bun. Lobster inside was tender but the small size had me wanting for more.
The spouse chose the battered fish and chips which was a good size for her. The batter was crunchy but underneath it seemed a bit too oily. Fish tasted fresh, tartar sauce tangy and chips were crisp though.
Not as satisfying as hoped. read more
