I had a Korean "burger". Really it is crispy chicken sandwich on a bun with greens and a mild sauce. It was very good. It comes with fries which are good the day of but do not reheat in the microwave very well. But not many do. Beef ribs were above average for size and tenderness but not a very strong flavor in the sauce. My wife had the lobster linguine which she liked. We have tried two of their three deserts. The sticky pudding and the brownie. Both are good. I wanted to try the white chocolate mousse but for two days they have been out of it. It seems a bit out of the way but it is a good place to eat.

The paint was chipping all over and the shower poured onto a wood windowsill that was rotting and there was mould around the shower. Food was pretty good - some local celebrity chef apparently owns it. Presentation was good and portions were good but the actual quality didn't justify 65 euro. The mash spuds were good, not great. The veggies were too well done and soft. The curry soup was excellent but the mushroom just good. The cheesecake was ok but the lemon was amazing. The fish mains were very good. The rooms are very nicely appointed, decorated to give a country house feel rather than an ultra modern hotel; the in-room facilities are not great, no tea or coffee or mini bar but nothing you will die for lack of. The restaurant / breakfast room is open and airy and full of atmosphere but considering it is one of the focuses of the house I don't think it's the best bit. I far prefer the small sitting room beside the bar (which is in itself not too shabby), open fires and a large brandy... very nice. The grounds are huge and just the thing for you to wander around with a hang-over, a couple of hours of fresh air, including a visit to the pot bellied pig and the chickens, leaves you hungry and ready for more food.... Which is really what this place is about. The bar food is great, a little expensive but worth it. I'm giving 4 stars because we cant award halves - 3.5 would be my preference but it in no way deserved 3 so 4 it is!!

There is a church yard and ruin across the street that caught my eye first. I wanted to stop to take photos. As Templar's Inn parking lot is just across the street it made a great stopping spot and while we were there, we thought 'why not?' and popped in for lunch. Turned out to be a very good idea. It was a late lunch time and still a good number of people were in the bar or restaurant and continued to come and go during our visit. Most were eating lunch, a few were sharing a pot of tea or enjoying a pint. We sat ourselves in the bar area after a pleasant staff member spotted us and invited us to sit where we like. He brought over menus and asked if we knew what we would like to drink. I ordered a pot of tea (my usual) and my SO ordered a pint (his usual). We were given plenty of time to view the menu. Our beves arrived and we were not rushed to make a decision on food, but left to leisurely make our decision. I love that about restaurants 'across the pond.' The menu has a nice variety of option with a preponderance of seafood items. Fish chowder, scampi, catch of the day, mussles along with sandwiches, burgers, chicken dishes, steak and pork. A full menu and the food here is very well prepared. I went with the catch of the day, Breaded Lemon Sole. Lightly breaded, this fish is flaky and moist. The side salad is loaded with a variety of veg and nicely dressed. The fries tasty. I wish I could come back here for another meal. The tea was the best I've had in Ireland and I love how big the pot is for one person. My SO ordered the Breaded Chicken breast burger which he very much enjoyed, along with his pint. I was too busy eating my delicious fish to notice his chicken; sorry. The bartender/waiter was friendly and kept an eye on us from the bar. There were a few other staff members who also checked in with us so we never felt ignored while also never feeling rushed. None of the staff attempted to start a conversation, but when we initiated, they were all very pleasant and happy for a chat and to find out more about us and answer our questions. The rest rooms are behind the bar and accessible from both the bar area and the dining room. They are modern and clean. Seating in the bar area is varied and comfortable. The dining room is bright and sunny with lots of windows. The parking lot is plenty big. Don't pass this place by! As a matter of fact, add it as a stop on your itinerary if you are in the area.
