Lobo y Luna is amazing. Admittedly, I was hesitant to return here after my first two visits (over a year ago), because I just didn't remember the food being anything special. However! Having just visited the restaurant recently for a third time, I can confidently give them four stars and give you the following tips:
1. Their gazpacho is not "real" gazpacho as far as I'm concerned (& I've spent about 10 weeks in Spain, all told, 8 of which were living/staying with two different families, who made gazpacho from scratch..)
Continuing.. When I visited a while back, I had a tomato and a "squash gazpacho", neither of which were "truly" gazpacho to me, but both of which were quite tasty. During this most recent visit, I ordered the gazpacho and was served a "cucumber gazpacho"... That soup was even "further" from tasting like gazpacho, and not really my favorite thing in the world, but it was okay. It came with a scallop, though, which was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely amazing. Even if it was just garnish, the scallop was definitely my favorite part of that first dish, and kind of made my day.
2. The bread here, oh gods, and the garlic cream "dip" "stuff" - it's too thin to be considered garlic butter, but too thick to just be a garlic cream, per se, but whatever it is, it's super tasty. Seriously, y'all.
3. Part of their menu is devoted to tapas. I had spicy meatballs (at a Spanish place? I know..), and those were really great. I also had some potato and ham and manchego cheese croquettes, served on pickled beets (? I forget), and those were really super awesome. I was disappointed in general that they didn't offer Spanish tortilla, but they had so many other foods that it was really okay.
4. One of their entrees is duck served on mashed sweet potatoes, and that was also super awesome, both the duck and the mashed 'taters.
5. Other tasty things/bonus points for this place: their cheese plate; their shrimp tapas; big bottles of sparkling water (I really like places that don't skimp on the water..)
The waitstaff has always been pretty good, and was absolutely stellar on this last visit. Our server spoke impeccable English, which was great for our non-German-speaking family. Speaking of..
While I really like the food here, the portions are a bit small, and the prices are a bit large, so it's the perfect place to go if you have wealthy relatives visiting.... Or if you want to impress a date! read more
