Parc del Foix / Foix Natural Park - A street in Castellet

Parc del Foix / Foix Natural Park

This is a small but attractive area of wooded natural park (roughly equivalent to an Area of…read moreOutstanding Natural Beauty in the UK) with good fishing and hiking around the area of the reservoir (Pantà in Catalan) of the river Foix. Covering 2,900 hectares, the park is on the edge of the Garraf Massif, just inland of the Sitges-Vilanova stretch of the Costa Daurada coast. Most of the park consists of a mountainous plateau of carboniferous limestone which rises to around 460m (1,500ft), while the edge of the park on the Penedès plain is formed from sedimentary rocks. For such a small area the park contains great biodiversity. The mixture of landscape, lake and coastal and mountain climate sustains Holm-oak and pine forests, extensive myrtle groves, and rough pastures and vineyards on the edge of the park. This provides a home for an extensive fauna of insects, fish, birds and reptiles. The park is criss-crossed by several long distance walking paths. These provide good hiking for those with reasonable stamina and walking experience: a return trip from Sitges or Vilanova to Castellet will involve a walk of around 25-30km (16-20 miles) and climbs of around 750m (2,400ft). Public transport within the park is extremely limited and the rocky paths include some steep climbs, with few places to shelter or find food or water. In summer, the sun is fierce and temperatures can top 35C in the shade, so spring and early autumn are the best times for walking. Historic interest is catered for in the castles of Castellet (10th century) and Penyafort (12th century), as well as several small hamlets with mediaeval shrines and chapels, while the area is also littered with the remains of old farmsteads, caves and seasonal springs. Trains on line 4 of Barcelona's suburban railway system between Vilafranca del Penedès and El Vendrell stop at L'Arboç and Els Monjos, both just outside the south western and northern extremities of the park respectively, otherwise you'll need your own transport to access the park via the BV-2115 or BV-2117 roads, or hike in from the surrounding area on one of the long distance footpaths. The roads are narrow twisty and popular with local motorcyclists.

Antonio Gaudi's unique architecture was literally what put Spain on my bucket list so naturally…read moreseeing as much as we could of it was a huge priority. We did a Spain Portugal tour from Go Ahead and added couple days on both ends. Plus did the add of Guardi excursion that took us to more of his works. The guides told us alot of historical details and gave us a bit of time to look about but I would have rather had less history and more time to take it all it. so much detail. guide said this was the largest outdoor bench and it's very crowded so if you are waiting for no people in your pictures it's not going to happen. I suggest trying ai to delete the people if they are an issue for you. ChatGPT gives you some free but have to take 1 person at a time which would be unfortunate with this crowd so upgrade at least temporarily to the plus for I think 20 a month. My samsung phone provides free ai but like the other program it's pretty much 1 person at a time. Barcelona was a crowded city so if your like me and sometimes really want no strangers in your pictures try ai ... it doesn't always work immediately but usually does a great job. welcome to the new way to edit your pics. I didn't bring my real camera on this trip ... just my samsung phone which has pretty decent camera. The worlds a big place with alot I'd like to see but glad we made it here it's been on the bucket list for for over 30 yrs. I def heard the load parakeets here but wasn't the best place to see them as they were up in trees.

This is a lovely park and in my opinion, a must experience in Barcelona…read more We took our two kids and they had a great time. I wish I would've bought my tickets a little earlier so that we could've gone in the morning but I'm happy we got in anyway we took our baby in her front pack, which worked pretty well but at the same time I missed my stroller, but I feel like if I would've had the stroller there would've been a lot of carrying the stroller up and down things so I'm not really sure what you do there to win. Food options were very limited inside the park, which surprised me there were some vending machines and that was kind of it so we were pretty hungry. I would pack a picnic and do it that way where I had to do it again and I would also pack the picnic before getting off at either of the two close train stations where we got off there was like nothing towards getting food and then we went on the other way when we left, and that was all just really touristy, not great looking options
