It's filled with beautiful period antiques, some which are familiar to me from my granny's home, that immediately transported me back my childhood. The grounds are beautiful with large Magnolia trees and 120 yr old Live Oak trees with Spanish moss everywhere and there's Azaleas, Hydrangeas and a variety of other plants and shrubs. The grounds all around are meticulously maintained giving the property vibrant look and appeal. Originally it was the home of Charles and Susan Swift and their 11 children, it was purchased in 1976 by Nik Coles. Before his death in 2007, he bequeathed the home to the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission. In 2009 the home was opened to the public and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A debt of gratitude is owed to Mr. Nik Coles for his contributions in saving one of the most colorful and outstanding examples of the turn of the century Gulf Coast architecture in our community. The Swift-Coles Historic Home is now open to the public for summer tours. The guided tours leads visitors through the 16 room historic tidewater mansion and grounds to experience how life along the Bon Secour River would have been nearly 100 years ago. There's lots of legends and lore about this place being haunted, many about the deceased displeasure with the renovations. I have been here several times and the last was recently with #1 son and my neighbor Claudine for a late night paranormal investigation with Panhandle Paranormal Group. It indeed was very cool! Her dreams and expectations were exceeded in every possible way. My daughter and my son in law got engaged two years ago, they both live in Jacksonville, Florida. Since both families live in Baldwin County, they decided to have their wedding here. When we started looking for a venue, we were having a challenging time looking for the perfect place and a reasonable price. Until one day my co-worker told me she went to a wedding at Waters Edge, I right away went online and checked them. I decided to call and make an appointment. We met with Anita, she showed us around the place, and it was perfect they have a gorgeous establishment, covered pavilion with a fireplace for an outside ceremony and on the walkway to the pavilion there is an iron arbor that can be decorated on the day of the event. The property was big enough that you can choose anywhere on the property to have your ceremony. We then went to the reception area (barn) the place was very accommodating with lots of room and a nice bar. It has a rustic look with lots of old memorabilia. We sat with Anita, and we talked about everything that we needed to know. She was very knowledgeable and experienced with events. We discussed our options as a family, and we decided to go with Waters Edge. As the mother of bride, I had so much on my mind and worried about everything after talking with Anita, she made me feel at ease and assured me that she would help us give our daughter an elegant and very memorable wedding for our princess. We met every month to discuss our progress towards the event. At every meeting we discussed what needed to get done. Anita made recommendations for us to adjust as time progressed, she kept me and my daughter on our toes. She was very pleasant to work with and accommodating to all our needs. Anita and her team were amazing!! Also want to say thank you to the bartender Rebecca, her staff and our Disc Jockey (Anita's husband) for keeping the drinks and music going and accommodating our family and designated friends with special drink requests!! The place was amazing, and I would recommend this place to anyone.
