Also ordered some food. We had the Farm Crisps aka Pork Rinds, very fresh with the nice amount of seasoning, the jalapeño ranch really makes it a wow dish. My husband ordered the stacked apple smash burger. On paper you think it can't be good, but was delicious. I had the backyard chicken sandwich which was good it said honey mustard, kind of more a brown honey mustard, I'm not a big brown mustard fan but it was still tasty. All the staff were great super friendly and a beautiful, fun place to eat and have some cocktails.

How could you not be while working there? Smiles seemed genuine and if you come within proximity, you're getting some light conversation. I will be the first to tell you I have 2 brown thumbs, and no clue about planting stuff, but I want to come visit Michigan in August and I want some tomatoes and cucumbers. Let's see what happens! It turns out when it comes to plants, you don't need a whole flat of each thing. A little bit goes a long way. I ended up grabbing local heirloom rainbow tomatoes. I could not be more excited about this. I got local slicing cucumbers, and I have no clue what that is, but it's all they had left, so I guess I'll find out, and June is pride month, so why not more rainbows? Local Kale! The aisles were wide enough to maneuver the flat carts easily and I navigated my way from the back veggies, to the blueberry bushes and melons, to the flowers galore and then to the front registers and my super chipper cashier. She was fabulous and got me a tray for my 6 little squares to carry to the car. Each little square of 4 segments was only $2. I got out of there for $13 whole dollars! Now that's a deal! Would I recommend Wojo's? Heck yes. Will I be back? Fingers crossed! This place is great!

Stopping at the store shed, we would pick up our empty baskets, and head to the back of the orchard. We would enjoy our picnic among the hills, trees, and birds. It is a very peaceful, meadow like space. Our annual event spanned generations to include my children and my sister's children. Although my sons are grown, they still enjoy going to Yoder's, eating the apples, and playing football in the fields. The apples are always so fresh and deliciously crisp. The end result of homemade applesauce for the holidays is still a greatly anticipated treat for my family. Last year (2017), we discovered Yoder's has a new owner. He was every bit as nice and friendly as the previous owners were. Since it is Spy season right now, this weekend we will be in the orchards once again. This is one of my family's cherished traditions and one of our places.

I still love going to the orchard every fall and I like to take my dog with me... but I hate the rat race of the big money-making orchards that have turned into circuses. I get that their season is short and they have to make the most of the fall by drawing as many people as possible (hence the pumpkin patches, the petting zoos, the face painting, the giant balloon moonwalks... and the impossible parking and insanely long lines that go with all of it), but that stuff drives me crazy. I love the chirping birds and the bees buzzing around fallen apples. I love not having to walk a half mile to get from my car to the orchard, I love not waiting in impossible lines, and I love not paying inflated prices so as to cover the expense of all the clowns, animal handlers, etc. So, for my third year in a row I have gone to Yoder's. I love it. It's easy to miss, but it is just south of Blakes on M-53/Van Dyke. Just stop at the entrance, pick up a bag/bushel from Ron (who sits in his truck and waits for people to pull up), then drive off beyond the road into acres and acres of quiet, still orchard where you can pick apples, relax, let Fido run around free, and enjoy picking apples w/o the lines, the fuss, or the $$$. If you are looking for all that rig-a-marole, DO NOT go to Yoder's---they don't have it... hell, they don't have cider, or donuts, or caramel apples (and they only take cash or check). But there are plenty of places where you *can* get those things, and not nearly enough places where you can get pick-your-own apples without all the fuss. I'll keep going back to this orchard every year.

You can just wander around on foot or drive out to a specific area. Some of the trees are covered by nets to keep the birds out (I assume), so it takes some doing to get to the grapes. It is a good idea to take some clippers and a container (I took plastic bags & a clipper I'd gotten from a dollar store), but they do have them if you've forgotten them. There are also a couple apple trees. I'm not sure if those are meant to be picked or not; the only people I saw doing that were families with small children. Their prices are very reasonable and the grapes are a totally different breed from what you get at a grocery store. Once you taste these, you'll never be excited by what stores have again.
